His eyes grew even more stern. "Mark, we've found proof of their involvement in the experiment. But we still need to confirm Daedalus's location."

"Understood. We will continue to delay the guards." Mark responded.

Lynn put all the documents he found into a bag and then led the team deeper into the base. They came to a laboratory and found more instruments and equipment, which were obviously used for genetic research.

"These devices are still functioning," a team member said after checking. "This means they're still conducting experiments recently."

Lin En glanced at the specimens on the lab table and frowned slightly: "These experimental specimens... are obviously the result of artificially implanted mutant genes. They are trying to create enhanced individuals."

"These lunatics." Another team member cursed in a low voice.

"Continue taking photos and recording all equipment and samples," Lynn instructed. "These are all important evidence."

Just as they were busy, an alarm suddenly sounded in the base, and the shrill sound echoed in the corridor.

"Our actions have been discovered!" Mark's voice came through the headset, "The guards at the main gate have strengthened their defenses. You must evacuate as soon as possible!"

Lin En made a quick decision: "Retreat, take all the evidence with you. The main attack team will cover our departure."

The team quickly gathered their equipment and documents and retreated through another corridor. However, more guards appeared on both sides of the corridor, trying to block their way.

Lynn took the lead in firing, suppressing the enemy with precise shooting, and at the same time commanded the team to find a new exit. They rushed all the way to the back door of the base and found a spare truck parked outside.

"Get in the car, quickly!" Lynn shouted while shooting.

The team members quickly jumped into the truck, and Lin En was the last one to get in. He smashed the rear window with the butt of his rifle to monitor the pursuit. The truck started up quickly and rushed out of the base.

"There's a small path behind the base that leads to the main road. We can get rid of them there." Mark provided guidance over the communication.

The truck sped along, with several pursuing vehicles following closely behind. Lynn used the rifle in the trunk to accurately shoot at the tires of the pursuing vehicles, forcing them to stop one by one.

"Good job!" Mark's voice was filled with excitement.

A few minutes later, they successfully shook off their pursuers and drove into an abandoned industrial area. Lin En ordered the car to stop and breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that all the team members were safe.

"We need to get this evidence back to headquarters as soon as possible." Lynn looked at the bag full of documents, his eyes filled with calm determination. "These things are enough to prove that Alan's parents were involved in the experiment, but more importantly, they can reveal Daedalus' true identity."

Mark nodded and patted Lynn's shoulder: "Detective, you did it. This is just the first step. We will definitely find them."

Lynn brought all the documents from the security company's training base back to the headquarters and worked overtime with Mark until late at night. They analyzed the documents one by one and finally found a shocking clue in a personnel file.

"Inspector, these people aren't just employees of the security company," Mark said, pointing to a table. "Many of the people listed here are related to other missing persons we've investigated. While these cases may seem unrelated, the backgrounds of the missing individuals share some similarities."

Lynn picked up the document and read it carefully, and found that many of the missing people were parents from ordinary families or young singles, and these families often had one characteristic - their children or relatives showed some potential special abilities, and were even suspected of being mutants.

"These people might not be random disappearances," Lin En said solemnly. "The experimental organization might have selected them to study the heritability of mutant genes or to cultivate more stable mutant abilities."

Mark nodded in agreement. "And members of these families may become their next targets. We need to expand our investigation to see how many hidden connections there are behind these disappearances."

To dig deeper, Lynn decided to contact the families of the missing persons, hoping to get more clues from them. The next day, he and Mark drove to the home of one of the missing persons, a middle-aged woman whose husband had gone out late one night three years earlier and never returned.

"I'm used to this kind of pain." The woman handed a cup of coffee to Lin En, her eyes full of fatigue. "The police told me that he might just run away from home, but I know he wouldn't. He's a good husband and would never abandon me and the children."

Lynn looked through the photos she was provided and saw a family photo in which the missing person's husband was hugging their son, who was playing with a small model train with an innocent smile on his face.

"Is your son okay now?" Lynn asked cautiously.

"He's very brave, but also very scared," the woman said, her voice choking. "Ever since his father disappeared, he's been having nightmares about people trying to catch him. He rarely goes out now and doesn't play with other children."

Lynn nodded, then took out a note from his pocket and handed it to the woman: "Here is my contact information. If you or your child encounter anything suspicious, please contact me immediately."

After leaving the woman's home, Lynn and Mark sat in silence in the car for a moment. Lynn looked out the window and whispered, "The brokenness of these families is not only the result of crime, but also the cold-bloodedness of those behind the scenes."

Mark gripped the steering wheel tightly, his tone filled with anger: "Inspector, we must uncover all this. This is not only for Allen's parents, but also for these innocent families."

Over the next few days, Lynn and Mark visited several families of the missing persons and discovered more disturbing commonalities: these missing persons often exhibited unusual behavior before being abducted, such as receiving anonymous emails, going out at night for no reason, and even being followed by strangers.

Even more worrying is that they found that some of the children of these families also began to show signs of being monitored or threatened after the disappearance. Lynn realized that the tentacles of the experimental organization might still be operating and could sweep away more victims at any time.

Using this information, Lynn and Mark drew a complex network diagram that connected the time, location, and background of all the missing cases. They found that most of the missing people were last seen in a few specific areas, which were related to the activities of security companies and experimental organizations.

"We need more support," Mark said. "These clues point to a huge network. If we can't stop them, the number of missing victims will only increase."

Lin En pondered for a moment and decided to temporarily bypass his superiors' restrictions and directly contact his trusted colleagues in other departments. He passed the investigation information to an old friend who worked in the Federal Law Enforcement Bureau. The friend quickly helped him obtain more internal information about security companies and experimental organizations.

"The company's capital flow is abnormal," the other party told Lynn on the phone. "They transferred funds through multiple offshore accounts, and part of the funds eventually flowed to a secret biological laboratory in the suburbs of Manhattan."

Lynn quickly incorporated this information into his investigation and decided to personally visit the lab. He and Mark led a small team, quietly approaching the lab's location late at night. The lab looked like an ordinary warehouse from the outside, but the interior was heavily guarded. After observing for a while, Lynn discovered that the door was heavily locked and surrounded by surveillance cameras.

"It seems they have hidden a lot of secrets here." Mark whispered.

"We'll split into two groups," Lynn decided. "One group will attract attention, and the other will sneak in through the side door."

The operation unfolded swiftly. Mark led the main attack team to distract the guards, while Lynn and the infiltration team successfully entered the laboratory. They discovered a large amount of experimental equipment and chemicals, as well as several marked freezers.

"The freezer here may contain samples of experimental subjects." said a team member.

Lynn nodded and began to carefully examine the labels on the freezers. He found that one of the freezers was labeled "Miller-K&C", which was obviously the code name for Catherine and George.

"We found their names." Lin En's tone was a little excited, "But these are just samples. They may have been transferred to other places."

At this moment, the alarm suddenly sounded and the lights in the laboratory turned into a dazzling red.

"We're exposed!" Mark's voice came from the headset, "Reinforcements are coming from the periphery, we must evacuate as soon as possible!"

Lin En quickly ordered: "Take away all the documents and samples that can be taken away. We must get these things out before the enemy."

The team rushed out of the laboratory in a fierce firefight and encountered stubborn resistance, but finally evacuated successfully. They brought all the evidence back to headquarters and contacted more reliable technicians for analysis.

Through this operation, Lynn finally found more key information about Catherine and George. They were marked as "high-value targets" by the experimental organization, and their current whereabouts pointed to a secret base code-named "Safe Haven".

It was late at night when Lynn returned to the office, his face filled with fatigue. The continuous high-intensity investigation had exhausted him, but he knew that every minute could determine the fate of Allen's parents.

He had just sat down when his cell phone rang. He picked it up and saw it was Kate calling.

"Kate, what's the matter so late?" Lynn answered the phone with a tired tone.

"You sound terrible, Lynn," Kate said with concern in her tone. "I guess you haven't had a day off yet."

Lynn leaned back in her chair and sighed softly, "It's okay, just work. Is there anything special that made you call so late?"

"Nothing in particular." Kate's voice was filled with a hint of laughter. "I just thought you needed some rest. I know a nice restaurant. Is it closed now? If you're still awake, let's go get something to eat."

Lynn glanced at the documents on the table and hesitated for a moment, but Kate's proposal did shake him. He needed a moment to breathe, not only physically but also mentally.

"Okay, I need a change of scenery to clear my head." Lynn stood up and picked up his coat. "Send me the address and I'll be right there."

The restaurant Kate had chosen was in a quiet corner of Manhattan, with a warm and low-key atmosphere. When Lynn arrived, Kate was already sitting at a table in the corner, waiting for him. Two cups of steaming coffee sat on the table, and the air was filled with the faint aroma of coffee.

"You look worse than you sound on the phone." Kate looked up at him, frowning slightly. "Lynn, you have to learn to rest."

Lin En smiled helplessly: "You know, cases don't wait. Especially this case, I can't relax for a moment."

Kate pushed a cup of coffee in front of him, her tone softer: "I understand why you are so persistent. Alan is a good boy, and his family experience is something you can't ignore, but if you fall, who can help him?"

Lynn held the coffee cup in her hand and lowered her head in thought for a moment: "Kate, I just feel that... these things shouldn't have happened. If I have a chance to stop them, I must do my best."

Kate nodded, her eyes full of understanding: "Your persistence is what I admire most, but don't forget, you are not fighting alone. You still have Mark, and those of us who care about you."

"You care about me?" Lin En raised his head and met Kate's eyes. A slight smile appeared on the corner of his mouth. "Is this considered a public admission?"

Kate was amused by his words, and said with a hint of teasing: "I never denied it. I just didn't expect you to realize it so late."

Lynn chuckled and shook his head, and the topic naturally returned to Allen's case. He briefly described to Kate the recent progress of the investigation and the disturbing clues they had found.

"This isn't just about Alan's parents," Lynn whispered, her eyes solemn. "Behind these disappearances is a massive criminal network. More families may be suffering the same pain."

Kate's face darkened. "I know this case is complicated, but maybe I can help you. I know some journalists who investigate social issues. They may have come across similar cases. Perhaps I can help you gather more intelligence from a media perspective."

Lynn nodded. "If you can provide any clues, that would be a great help. But Kate, this could be dangerous. I don't want you to get into trouble."

Kate's eyes were firm: "Lynn, you know I'm not afraid of trouble. This is my job and what I want to do."

Lin En stared at her and finally sighed: "Okay, but if you see any signs of danger, you must tell me immediately. We can solve it together."

After they finished dinner, Kate insisted on walking Lynn back to his office. She helped him sort through some of the papers on his desk, carefully marking the ones that needed to be addressed first.

"Thank you, Kate." Lynn looked at her back, with a hint of warmth in his tone.

Kate turned around and gave a faint smile: "What are you thanking me for? This is what I should do."

Lin En watched Kate leave, then sat back at his desk to regroup. He knew that Kate's support not only warmed his heart but also gave him more strength in this lonely battle. (End of this chapter)
