Chapter 281 Enjoy Life
The next morning, Lin received an urgent tip from headquarters: Alex, one of the core members of the experimental organization, had escaped and been tracked to Las Vegas. This news instantly made Lin nervous. Although they had destroyed the Second Base, Alex's escape meant that the experimental organization's conspiracy was not over. This man was not only crucial to the progress of the experimental plan, but also may possess key information that could unravel the entire experimental organization.
"We can't waste any more time," Lynn said to Mark in a deep voice. "Alex won't stop. Las Vegas is a complex place with a high turnover of people and many underground forces. His escape plan is likely supported by someone behind the scenes."
Mark nodded, his face equally solemn: "We have to act quickly and not give him any chance to breathe."
They immediately packed their gear and headed for the airport. The plane took off under the early morning sun, bound for Las Vegas. Inside the cabin, Lynn remained silent, his eyes fixed on the window, his thoughts racing. Alex's escape posed even greater danger and uncertainty. Lynn had a hunch: Alex wasn't simply evading capture; this time, he might have a more far-reaching agenda.
Lynn and Mark sat in the cabin, each in a brief silence. The plane gradually broke through the white clouds, heading towards Las Vegas. Lynn's uneasiness and anxiety grew, and he remembered Kate's warning, reminding him not only to focus on the progress of the case but also to protect himself at all times. He also understood that Kate's concerns were not unfounded. Every action he took involved the safety of many more people, especially when facing a dangerous person like Alex. Any negligence could have catastrophic consequences.
Las Vegas is a city that never turns on. Its neon lights illuminate the night, yet countless secrets remain hidden within this vibrant city. Upon arrival, Lynn and Mark immediately begin tracking Alex. According to a tip, Alex appears to be hiding in a luxury Las Vegas hotel. While the hotel may appear glamorous on the outside, its interior is a deeply secretive place, involved in numerous underground transactions and illegal activities.
"We know his escape route, but this place is not like other places," Lynn said to Mark in the command center. "The complexity of Las Vegas is that he can easily disappear in the crowd. We have to find his hiding place and never give him any chance to escape."
They soon arrived near the target hotel, a luxurious casino hotel crowded with tourists, but Lynn knew that Alex might not simply rely on the hustle and bustle of the casino to cover his whereabouts. He might have found a hiding place and was waiting for the right time to continue his plan.
"We can't just barge in and wait for him to make a move." Lynn turned and looked at Mark, "First, investigate from the periphery to find possible hiding spots, and then slowly approach."
They split up, investigating the situation around the hotel while using the latest technology to scout out areas where Alex might be hiding. Lynn used high-tech drones to monitor the hotel's external activities, while Mark infiltrated the hotel staff to gather inside information.
After several hours of intense investigation, Lynn finally discovered a crucial clue in the hotel's CCTV system. In a nondescript underground parking lot, Lynn spotted a black sedan, one of Alex's most common vehicles. The car was parked in a secluded location, seemingly to avoid attracting attention, but Lynn's intuition told him that this car might be Alex's only remaining trace.
"Mark, I found a clue about him." Lynn whispered in the headset, "The black car is parked in the underground parking lot. I have a hunch that he is hiding there."
Mark acted quickly after receiving the order and began to search for possible passages and floors inside the hotel, eventually confirming the exit from the underground parking lot to the basement. This clue narrowed their scope of action to the most critical area.
As night fell, the streets of Las Vegas remained bustling, neon lights adorning the city in a dazzling display of color. However, Lynn and Mark's moods grew increasingly heavy. They entered the underground parking garage. The surroundings were quiet and tense, the darkness unsettling. Lynn and Mark walked towards each other, their eyes wary, each step carefully chosen to avoid making any noise.
When they reached the end of the parking lot, they found the black car parked in a secluded corner. There was no one around, and there seemed to be no unusual movement around. But Lynn knew that Alex would not be easily caught. He would definitely not expose himself so easily.
"Keep moving forward and stay alert." Lynn whispered, his eyes fixed on everything around him, his heartbeat gradually accelerating.
They followed the car's trail forward when suddenly, they heard soft footsteps in the corner of the underground parking lot. Lynn immediately stopped and signaled to Mark. The two of them quietly approached the source of the sound. Just as they reached an abandoned storage room, Lynn saw a faint light peeking through the crack in the door.
"He's in there." Lynn whispered, "Get ready and act now."
Mark nodded, and the two of them quickly approached the door of the storage room and peeked through the crack in the door. Alex was standing in a dim corner, seemingly talking to someone. Lynn's heart tightened. As he expected, Alex was not alone. He was accompanied by a fierce-looking bodyguard.
"We have to hurry." Lin En silently calculated the time in his mind, "We can't give them time to react."
He signaled Mark to flank from another direction while he prepared to break through from the front. The two men coordinated tacitly, their movements almost synchronized. Lynn quickly pushed open the door to the storage room and almost instantly met Alex head-on.
"You can't escape, Alex." Lynn said coldly, pointing the gun at Alex.
Alex turned around and saw Lynn, his expression changed. He sneered and replied, "You think you can stop me like this? You're wrong, Lynn. You don't know that you're not chasing me, but the person behind the whole plan."
"Stop talking nonsense." Lin En's voice remained calm. "You have no way out now."
At that moment, the bodyguard next to Alex whipped out his pistol and opened fire at Lynn and Mark. The two reacted quickly, dodging the first wave of attacks. Lynn instinctively fired, striking the bodyguard in the shoulder. The bodyguard fell to the ground, his gun dropping. Lynn quickly ran over to grab the weapon.
Alex obviously knew he couldn't escape. His expression turned gloomy and angry. "Do you really think that catching me will end this? The experiment has just begun. The true core of the plan is far more complicated than you can imagine."
"You've been dreaming." Lynn approached, his voice even colder. "Your plot has failed. You no longer have any chance."
In the end, Alex was successfully subdued, and the leader of the experimental organization was finally arrested. Lynn and Mark took Alex back to Manhattan and handed him over to the headquarters for interrogation.
The next day, just as Lin En finished a day's work, his cell phone rang, breaking the silence. Kate's name appeared on the screen. When Lin En picked up the phone, Kate's voice came over: "Hi, Lin En, how are you doing? You've been super busy, haven't you?"
"You know, Kate, once you start working, you can hardly stop." Lynn's tone was a little tired. "But at last, there has been some progress, and the case is still moving forward." "I know you must be under a lot of pressure right now," Kate smiled, "but I was just thinking, shouldn't you take a few days off and relax? After all, after such a long period of intense work, even you need to take a breather."
Lin En sighed softly and looked down at the documents piled on the table. "It's nice to rest, but you know, there are always new things to do at work."
"I understand your sense of responsibility," Kate's tone softened, "but you have to take care of yourself too. Otherwise, how can you continue to bear such great pressure? I've booked a place not far from Manhattan with a great view and a quiet environment, perfect for you to relax."
Lynn was silent for a moment, then finally nodded. "Well, Kate, maybe it's time to take a break. Thanks for reminding me."
"That's decided! But I have a small request." Kate said easily.
"What request?" Lynn asked doubtfully.
"Well, I thought since we need to relax, why not let Gwen come along? She's been pretty busy lately, so she could use this opportunity to relax a bit." Kate smiled mischievously.
Lin En was stunned for a moment, having completely unexpectedly mentioned Gwen. Gwen was his sister, and lately, she had been so busy with school and work that she had barely had a moment to rest. Lin En knew that his sister had always cared deeply for him, often silently supporting him from behind. Although he had always been a strict brother to Gwen, her care and companionship had always been a warm presence in his heart.
"Gwen?" Lynn was stunned for a moment, feeling a little surprised. "Do you really want to take her with you?"
"Of course," Kate smiled. "She needs to relax just as much as you do. Besides, since we've all decided to take a few days off, we should at least have some company, right?"
Lynn lowered her head and thought for a moment, then finally decided to agree to Kate's suggestion: "Okay, since you've arranged it this way, I won't say anything more. She also needs to relax, no problem."
"Great! Now we can spend our vacation together without having to worry about work." Kate's voice was filled with excitement. "I'll contact Gwen later and ask her to get ready. We'll leave tomorrow morning."
Lynn nodded, and after hanging up the phone, he seemed to feel much more relaxed. The pressure of work left him with almost no time to rest, but at that moment, he was actually looking forward to the next few days. Going out with Kate and Gwen, temporarily escaping the busy work, and enjoying a moment of peace and quiet, might be what he really needed.
The next morning, Lin En packed his bags and prepared to leave. He did not tell Gwen that he had already agreed to Kate's proposal, but planned to give her a surprise when they met. Lin En walked into the living room and saw Gwen already dressed and getting ready to go out.
"Gwen, are you ready?" Lynn walked over with a smile, and said in a relaxed tone, "You should be ready for today's trip."
Gwen turned around and looked at her brother with some curiosity. "Travel? Brother, what do you mean? Didn't we always say that we would go when I was free?"
Lynn couldn't help but smile, but she suppressed her laughter. "Kate thinks you should take a break and that you've been too tired lately. I promised her that we'll go on vacation together today."
Gwen was stunned for a moment, clearly surprised. "Wait a minute, you mean Kate has arranged something? And you agreed to it? I always thought you were so busy that you had no time to rest."
"I'm busy, but I need to give myself a break every now and then." Lynn looked at her sister and smiled. "Anyway, we haven't relaxed in a long time. Let's go relax today."
Gwen's eyes flashed with surprise. "Really? That's great! I need a break too. I've been so stressed lately. Thank you, brother."
Lynn smiled and nodded, then walked with Gwen to the destination Kate had arranged. As they chatted along the way, Lynn felt a growing closeness to his sister. Although he had always been somewhat harsh on Gwen in the past, he now realized that he cared more about her and felt a greater sense of responsibility. Gwen was a bright spot in his life, always infecting him with her optimism and sunshine, making him feel the beauty of the world.
As they drove toward the resort, the view gradually shifted from the bustling Manhattan to the tranquility of the suburbs. Shaded by lush trees and surrounded by mountains, the resort was nestled in a secluded nature reserve, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, offering fresh air and a tranquil environment. Kate had already arranged accommodations for them and prepared several relaxing activities, allowing the three of them to fully unwind.
When they arrived at the resort, Lynn and Gwen immediately felt the comfort of this tranquil place. The facilities here are simple yet exquisite. The cabins by the lake provide perfect privacy. Surrounded by rolling green mountains and crystal clear lake water, it is like a quiet painting.
"We need to enjoy these few days," Kate said with a smile. "You can do whatever you want: swim, take a walk, or just sit quietly by the lake and enjoy the scenery."
Lin En took a deep breath and felt that the air here was much fresher than in the city, as if everything had been purified. "Yeah, we really need to relax. We are here, and we don't have to think about work for a few days at least."
Gwen also looked around excitedly: "This place is really beautiful, brother, you didn't lie to me, Kate, you really know how to choose a place."
Kate smiled and said, "I know you've all been busy for a long time. This is a good opportunity to enjoy life." (End of this chapter)
