Chapter 282: Make the right decision when facing any danger
The three of them entered the cabin, unpacked their belongings, and walked to the lake. The water rippled gently in the breeze, and the surroundings were so quiet that one could almost hear his own heartbeat. As Lin En gazed at the lake, his inner tension and fatigue gradually gave way to the tranquility. He realized that he had been so focused on work and the case that he had neglected the simple, beautiful moments in life.
Gwen picked up a stone on the shore, jumped and laughed, and threw it into the lake: "Look, brother, how far I can throw it!"
Lynn looked at her sister's smile, a long-lost warmth welling up in her heart, and she whispered, "You're always so happy, Gwen. When will I learn to enjoy life like you do?"
Gwen paused, looked at her brother, and smiled. "You're already doing it, brother. It's just that you should slow down and stop making work your whole life."
Kate stood by, listening to their conversation, her smile growing wider. She knew that Lin En had lost himself in his busy work, but today, he could finally relax and find the meaning of life again.
As evening fell, the three of them sat by the lake, admiring the beauty of the sunset. The setting sun dyed the lake red, and it also warmed their hearts. Kate said softly, "Look, this time is really beautiful."
Looking at the scene before him, Lin En felt a long-lost peace of mind. Although the future was still full of challenges, at this moment, he could feel a true sense of relaxation and peace. The time he spent with his sister and friends gave him unprecedented strength.
"Thank you." Lin En suddenly said softly, her eyes softening. "Without you, I might never be able to truly let go of all the pressure."
As night fell, the resort's lake shimmered softly in the moonlight, a tranquil scene reigned. Lynn, Kate, and Gwen sat on a bench by the lake, savoring the long-awaited stillness. The day's activities had exhausted them, but their fatigue slowly dissipated amidst the beautiful scenery and carefree atmosphere. Lynn could feel the tension within him gradually release, as if he had disconnected from the bustling world.
"The starry sky is so beautiful tonight," Kate leaned back in her chair, gazing at the night sky with gentle eyes. "The air here is so good, it's completely different from the feeling in the city. I can completely relax."
Lin En nodded. The scene before him made him completely relax his body. "Yes, the air is fresh and the surroundings are peaceful. It really is a pleasant place."
Gwen looked around and sighed, "This place feels like a pure land isolated from the world. I can feel an unprecedented tranquility. I really hope this time can last forever."
"Yes," Kate replied with a smile, "this kind of relaxing time is so precious. You two should enjoy it from time to time, otherwise you will get tired too easily."
The three of them began chatting about their lives. The light-hearted topic made Lin En feel more relaxed. The cool breeze of the night blew gently, bringing a hint of coolness. Gwen leaned on her brother's shoulder and said softly, "Brother, you are always so busy. When will you have time to stop and rest?"
Lin En smiled and patted her sister's head. "Well, I'm here with you guys to relax today. I'll make more time for myself and spend more time with you in the future."
Suddenly, a deep sound of footsteps could be heard from a distance. Linn instinctively became alert and turned to look around. Kate and Gwen didn't seem to notice anything was wrong, but Linn's eyes were fixed on a figure not far away. A figure approached, dressed in tattered clothes, gaiting unsteadily, looking somewhat unnatural.
"That person seems..." Kate said softly.
Lynn stood up, pulled Kate and Gwen a little, and whispered, "Be careful, don't let him get close."
Gwen was obviously a little nervous, her eyes fixed on the approaching figure: "He looks a little weird, is he a homeless person? I... I'm a little scared."
The homeless man's steps were getting closer, his clothes were filthy, his eyes were wandering, and there was an inexplicable smile on his lips. He gradually approached them, and it seemed that he had no intention of leaving.
"Hey, miss, can you help me out?" The homeless man suddenly asked in a hoarse and low voice, "I've walked a long way and I'm really hungry. Can you give me something to eat, or... some change?"
Kate was stunned for a moment, and tried to respond in a calm tone: "It's not convenient for us now, you should leave."
However, the homeless man didn't seem to be willing to give up. His eyes became more strange, and the smile on his lips gradually turned cold. He grinned and continued to approach: "You are so beautiful, how can you be so cold? Come on, give me something, or let me talk to you, I have something to say."
Gwen was obviously starting to get scared at this point, and her voice was shaking as she said, "Brother, he doesn't look right. What should I do?"
Lin En's eyes flashed. He sensed an unusual atmosphere and realized that things might not be as simple as they seemed. He stood up and walked over to Gwen, his eyes calm and alert. "It's okay, Gwen, don't be afraid. I will protect you."
He turned to the homeless man and said firmly and calmly, "Listen, we don't want anything to do with you. Now please leave or I will call the police."
After hearing this, the homeless man suddenly stopped, a glint of disdain flashed in his eyes. He chuckled softly and muttered, "Do you think I'll listen to you?"
Lynn felt a sense of unease spreading. He leaned forward slightly, signaling Gwen and Kate to keep a certain distance: "Listen, I'm warning you, don't come near us again."
The homeless man suddenly lowered his head and pulled out a worn blade from his pocket. The blade gleamed coldly in the moonlight. His smile grew even more sinister. "You think you can threaten me? What can your police do? No one in this area cares about you."
At this moment, Lin En's alertness reached its peak. He quickly stood up straight, his eyes sharp as a knife, secretly preparing to take action. He knew that the man before him was no ordinary homeless person, and there might be more danger hidden behind him.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Lynn asked coldly, without a trace of mercy in his tone. "If you continue to provoke me, I don't mind letting you know that you've made a big mistake."
A flicker of hesitation crossed the homeless man's face, but he quickly regained his ferocious smile, as if trying to use this threat to force Lin En to back down. "I'm warning you, don't make me too angry." Just as the homeless man swung the blade, Lin En reacted quickly, leaping forward and using the momentum to snatch the homeless man's blade from his hand. The homeless man was so frightened by this sudden action that he froze in his tracks. The next second, before he could even react, he was pinned to the ground by Lin En.
"You don't stand a chance now." Lin En looked at the homeless man coldly, his tone cold, "You dare to threaten my family, you must pay the price for this."
Kate and Gwen stood aside. Gwen was a little panicked, her voice trembling: "Brother, are you okay?"
"It's okay, don't worry." Lin En patted his sister's shoulder, his eyes firm. "However, this guy is not simple. In case he has accomplices, we must be careful."
Kate had already picked up her phone, ready to call the police. She quickly dialed the emergency number: "We're being harassed by a homeless man near the resort. He's threatening us with a knife. Please send the police."
A few minutes later, the police arrived at the scene. The homeless man was quickly arrested. Lynn explained what happened to the police. After confirming the situation, the police said they would handle the incident and thanked Lynn for his calm response.
When the police took the homeless man away, Lynn, Kate, and Gwen finally breathed a sigh of relief. Gwen was still trembling, her eyes filled with fear: "Brother, I was really scared. That man was so scary, why would he do that?"
Lynn hugged her sister gently and said softly, "It's okay, Gwen, it's okay. Look, the police are here to deal with it. We're not in any serious trouble."
Kate also walked over to them and sighed, "You two have to be careful, especially you, Lynn. You really saved us by reacting so quickly."
Lynn patted Kate's shoulder and smiled: "This is what I should do. After all, you are the most important people to me."
However, even though the immediate crisis had been resolved, Lynn knew this incident was no mere coincidence. The homeless man clearly had an unusual background and might even be part of a larger conspiracy. He was wary, but he also knew that protecting the two people before him—Kate and Gwen—was paramount.
"Let's stay here," Lynn was silent for a moment, and decided to remain alert. "But it's best to stay alert tonight. Who knows what might happen."
Kate nodded. "Yes, we still have to be careful. Even though the matter has been resolved, safety is always the most important thing."
Back at the cabin, Lynn remained alert, while Kate and Gwen tried not to dwell on the fear the homeless man had brought.
The next morning, the resort's scenery remained as dreamlike as ever. The air was crisp, the lake was mirror-like, and the surroundings were serene. After breakfast, Lynn, Kate, and Gwen sat on the cottage's terrace, enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. Although the atmosphere was somewhat somber due to the homeless incident the previous night, Lynn didn't let it dampen their spirits. He knew that life always presents unexpected challenges, but the most important thing was how to respond to them.
Kate looked up at the sky and smiled. "Where are we going today? This place may be peaceful, but I kind of feel like I don't have any real activities. I can't just look at the scenery all day."
Gwen also smiled and said mischievously, "Yes, brother, I really hope you can arrange some exciting activities for us. We can't just enjoy these boring leisure time."
Lynn stroked his chin, a thoughtful look in his eyes. "You two like exciting activities, right? Well, I have a good idea." He paused and looked at Kate and Gwen. "Let's go to the shooting range today and learn how to shoot."
Kate was stunned for a moment when she heard the suggestion, and then a hint of curiosity flashed in her eyes: "Shooting? You mean firearms training?"
"Yes." Lin En smiled slightly. "Although you don't usually come into contact with these things, learning how to use weapons to protect yourself is very useful for you. It's not just for self-defense, but also to improve your alertness and self-protection ability."
Gwen's eyes flashed with excitement: "That's great! I've always been interested in shooting, and I didn't expect that I could try it myself today."
Lin En nodded. "Shooting isn't just about aiming. It also tests your reflexes, stability, concentration, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. Today, I'll take you to a professional shooting range to teach you how to use a firearm correctly and give you a taste of real shooting training."
Kate hesitated for a moment, clearly unfamiliar with firearms training. "Lynn, I've never had much experience with firearms before. I'm a little scared."
"Don't worry," Lynn said gently, "I'll make sure it's safe. And shooting training isn't just about using guns. It allows you to learn to control yourself and know how to stay calm in a crisis. It's a very practical skill."
Kate finally nodded, and a decision gradually came to her mind. "Okay, since you said so, then I'll give it a try. Although I am a little nervous, I believe you will teach us how to be safe."
After breakfast, Lynn led Kate and Gwen to a nearby shooting range. It was a professional training range located in an open area in the suburbs, surrounded by high walls. It was well-equipped and suitable for various shooting training.
Upon arriving at the range, they were greeted by staff and led into the training area. The environment here was similar to the range Lynn had seen at the FBI training center, but with a greater focus on providing an experiential learning experience, suitable for beginners. The staff first provided Kate and Gwen with basic safety training, explaining the use of firearms and precautions, ensuring they could practice shooting in a safe environment.
Lynn stood by, observing, a hint of satisfaction in his eyes. He knew that, although Kate and Gwen were unfamiliar with firearms, this training would teach them how to handle emergencies and improve their self-protection abilities. A sense of responsibility welled up in Lynn. While these seemingly mundane training sessions wouldn't yield immediate results, he firmly believed that these small actions would ultimately help them make the right decisions in the face of future dangers.
The staff began to practice Kate and Gwen's proper gun-holding posture, instructing them on how to adjust their weapons and aim at the target. Kate seemed a little nervous at first; a gun was an unfamiliar and threatening object to her. She carefully grasped the handle, her hands tense, her eyes constantly focused on the target, while her gaze unconsciously drifted to Lynn. Seeing this, Lynn softly soothed, "Kate, relax. Guns are not more dangerous than you think. As long as you control them and master each step, you'll find it's not complicated." (End of this chapter)
