Chapter 50 Stealing
The first thing the mother and daughter did when they got home was to string the coins. After they spent some time stringing all the loose coins, they began to count the amount.

"How much?" Zhang Zhaodi looked at Su Yaoguang anxiously.

Su Yaoguang first took out some silver and said, "This is what I saved before."

Then he pointed to the second pile of silver and said, "This is what Sister Chun'e gave me this morning."

The last pile of loose change, which is larger, is what I earned today.

Zhang Zhaodi didn't wait for Su Yaoguang to tell the total number, but counted it herself. Her hands holding the silver were shaking, and her eyes were full of disbelief.

"The total is twenty-nine taels of silver and five hundred and thirty-two coins."

Su Yaoguang smiled and said, "This money is enough for us to eat for two years. If we spend it frugally, it will be enough for three years. Mother, are you relieved now that you don't have to worry about going hungry?"

"Don't forget that we're still supporting a scholar. This little money will only last us a little over a year," Zhang Zhaodi said. "But my daughter is capable, so there's nothing to worry about."

"It's selling well now, but these things last a long time. Once most of the people who want to buy them have finished buying, business will definitely decline. Unless we find new customers and sell our products to more people who need them. Actually, there is a place that really needs these rouge and powder. If we sell them to them, our business will definitely be very good."

"which place?"

"Borthello."

"No," Zhang Zhaodi said coldly, "No matter how poor we are, we are still girls from a decent family. How can we go to that kind of place? Even if I die of poverty and starvation, I will never let you set foot in that kind of place."

"Mom, those girls didn't willingly become prostitutes..."

"I said no, and that's non-negotiable." Zhang Zhaodi glared at Su Yaoguang, "You're getting so bold. You're really willing to make any money."

Su Yaoguang saw her resolute attitude and had no way to deal with her. She didn't go to brothels, but if she put up a sign, those women would always come to her on their own initiative.

"Tomorrow I'm going to Sister Chun'e's place to put makeup on her cousin. Let's take a break today and not make rouge and powder." Su Yaoguang said, "Let's make dumplings tonight!"

Second Aunt Su trotted back to the yard and said to Grandma Su, who was collecting clothes in the yard, "Mom, I just saw Zhang Zhaodi and Su Yaoguang coming back with two large backpacks full of things."

Grandma Su looked at her angrily: "Are you trying to piss me off to death? What does it have to do with us if those two bitches bring back something? We are no longer related."

"I shouldn't have helped my aunt to plot against her. Now that we've fallen out, we don't even have the chance to take advantage of her. What are we trying to gain?" Aunt Su muttered dissatisfiedly.

"If you have the time to stare at them, you might as well take good care of your son. Didn't you hear Dabao crying again?" Grandma Su was already angry, and now she was even angrier.

Aunt Su came into the room, picked up Su Dabao, and held him in her arms to comfort him. Suddenly, she saw Su Dabao's small figure, a light flashed in her eyes, and an idea emerged from her mind.

"Baby, do you want to eat meat?" Aunt Su asked in a low voice.

"Yes." Su Dabao licked his lips. "Mom, are we eating meat today?"

"Whether you can eat meat today depends on your performance." Aunt Su stroked his hair. "Listen to your mother later, okay?"

To eat dumplings in the evening, Zhang Zhaodi went to the vegetable garden to pick vegetables for stuffing, and Su Yaoguang carried a bucket of water to the well. The mother and daughter left the yard one after the other, and locked the door before leaving.

What they didn't know was that as soon as they left, a small figure stealthily dug a hole in the fence and crawled in.

Su Yaoguang returned with the water and paused as she entered the yard. She glanced around, musing to herself, puzzled, "Strange, something feels off." She muttered as she poured the well water into the vat. When she returned with the empty bucket and walked out of the kitchen again, her gaze rested on the cage not far away as she passed through the yard.

There were two little rabbits in that cage. They were the ones Zhou Wangshu had caught in the mountains last time and had been keeping them every day for a while. Now the cage door was open and the rabbits were gone.

She put down the bucket and began to search the yard. After searching for a while, she couldn't find the rabbit, and the small hole in the corner of the fence was exposed to her.

She pushed aside the nearby branches, looked through the small hole, and found a piece of cloth.

"What's wrong?" Zhang Zhaodi came back.

"Our rabbit was stolen." Su Yaoguang handed her the cloth.

Zhang Zhaodi took it and immediately recognized it as the fabric for Su Dabao's clothes. She sneered, "He really is bringing bad luck to us. My daughter, I'll go get the rabbit back."

"We didn't catch them red-handed, so we won't be able to get the rabbit back if we ask them for it now." Su Yaoguang said, "If we want them to spit it out, we have to use some tricks."

"What methods?" Zhang Zhaodi asked. "Tell me quickly. Mother has been bullied by their family for more than ten years. She's had enough. Now that we're no longer related, I don't have to bear the burden of filial piety. I don't need to be polite to them anymore."

"Wait a minute, you do this..." Su Yaoguang leaned over and whispered a few words in Zhang Zhaodi's ear. "Don't worry, I'll go get something first and give them a big gift."

At Second Uncle Su's house, Grandma Su was holding a rabbit in one hand, a proud look on her wrinkled face.

"My dear grandson is really capable. He actually got two such plump rabbits for free. To prevent any trouble, I will cook them all tonight and let everyone enjoy a feast."

"Mom, Su Yaoer has bullied us for so long, these two rabbits are our compensation. In this way, won't the anger in your heart be relieved a lot?" Aunt Su laughed.

"That little girl is very evil now. If she comes to our house, I'm afraid there will be another big fuss." Grandpa Su said worriedly.

Uncle Su disagreed: "She didn't see it, so how can she say the rabbit is with us? Even if she finds our rabbit meat, it can't prove it's her rabbit."

"That's right. All rabbits look the same. What proof does she have to prove our rabbits are hers? Even if we take this case to the county magistrate, I'm afraid he wouldn't be able to make a clear judgment."

"I always feel uneasy."

"You're just scared of her. You're as timid as a mouse and will never amount to anything in your life, so you let a youngster bully you around." Grandma Su scolded, "If you're afraid, don't eat. We'll eat it."

Grandpa Su said awkwardly, "The old woman is right. I'll listen to you."

Bang, bang, bang! Someone knocks on the door.

Grandma Su and Second Aunt Su looked at each other.

Grandma Su asked Su Dabao to go back to his room, locked the two rabbits in his room, and then asked Aunt Su to open the door.

Aunt Su opened the door and saw Zhang Zhaodi.

Zhang Zhaodi asked anxiously, "Have you seen the two rabbits?"
