Harry doesn't want to be a wizard, he wants to be a superhero
Chapter 341 Umbridge: Waaaaah, you're being unreasonable, you actually used force!
After the applause ended, Dumbledore wanted to continue speaking, but Professor Umbridge stood up impatiently.
Dumbledore showed surprise for only a moment, then sat up and stared intently at Professor Umbridge, intending to hear what he had to say.
Although Professor Dumbledore did not show any displeasure, the other professors did not perfectly conceal their emotions.
Professor Sprout's eyebrows were furrowed, Professor McGonagall's lips were pursed tightly, and even Snape's face seemed to be clouded with gloom.
Clearly, they were all dissatisfied with the ill-mannered Professor Umbridge.
But Umbridge seemed oblivious to the displeasure on the other professors' faces; she forced a smile and said:
"Thank you, Headmaster Dumbledore, for such a warm welcome."
Her voice was high-pitched and shrill, with a breathy quality, like a little girl's voice, which could easily make people feel disgusted.
Hermione frowned. She hated everything about this woman, from her affected voice to the fluffy pink cardigan she was wearing.
Umbridge cleared his throat with a few light coughs and continued:
"Yes, I must say, it's so good to be back at Hogwarts! It's wonderful to see all those happy little faces looking up at me!"
No one wanted to hear Umbridge's words because she treated the young wizards like five-year-olds, which made them feel slighted.
Umbridge wanted to say something more, but Harry had no patience for it. He was certain that his guess was right; the old woman was indeed very foolish.
She was obsessed with power because power gave her strength; without it, she would just be a weak old woman.
If it weren't for Fouché's support, she probably wouldn't have been able to become a deputy minister at all.
Harry then interrupted Umbridge directly:
“Excuse me, Professor Umbridge, I think you should wait until Headmaster Dumbledore has finished speaking before you can speak.”
Umbridge's smile froze on his lips like syrup.
Her small eyes narrowed sharply, and her fingers gripped the pink velvet cuffs tightly, her knuckles turning white as if they were about to be embedded in the fabric.
“Oh, Mr. Potter,” her voice was sickeningly sweet, yet laced with icy coldness, each word like a fingernail scraping against glass, “it seems your previous education didn’t teach you basic manners.”
As a senior investigator specially dispatched by the Ministry of Magic, I am certainly qualified to do so at any time…
“But it’s Headmaster Dumbledore speaking now,” Harry interrupted her calmly, her words coming to an abrupt halt like a cut tape.
Umbridge's cheeks visibly turned a deep liver color, resembling a bunch of grapes about to burst open.
She didn't dare openly challenge Dumbledore's authority, but she didn't take Harry, this newcomer, seriously. Even though this newcomer possessed great power, in this world, power was never the primary consideration.
Umbridge believed that he could control everything through his own wisdom.
Even now that Fudge has fallen from power, she can still hold an important position in the Ministry of Magic.
“Very well,” she spat out through gritted teeth, “Mr. Potter, I’m warning you one last time, don’t interrupt me while I’m speaking, or else…”
“What else could happen?” Harry said dismissively, his voice becoming even sterner and more authoritative. “Forget it, talking to you is a waste of my time. Now sit down!”
Harry's voice sounded no different from his usual speech to everyone else, but to Umbridge it was like a thunderclap.
She felt a sharp pain in her head, so painful that she wanted to faint. She wanted to cry out, but she couldn't control her body at all. So she could only stagger back into the chair, her eyes glazed over, unable to do anything else.
It took her a long time to come to her senses. The experience confirmed to her that Harry Potter had secretly attacked her.
She simply couldn't believe that Harry Potter would dare to attack a high-ranking official of the Ministry of Magic in public.
She immediately turned to look at Dumbledore, knowing that even if no one else noticed anything, Dumbledore definitely had sensed Harry's subtle actions.
To her surprise, Dumbledore simply gave her a gentle smile, then ignored her and turned his attention back to the young wizard in front of him.
Dumbledore's gentle smile did not warm Umbridge's heart; instead, it made her feel even colder.
Only at this moment did Umbridge understand that the reason she thought strength was unimportant was simply because those strong individuals were willing to play with her within the rules.
Once outside the rules, the power to take action becomes the most important thing.
Umbridge dared not show any more anger, and a disgusting, extremely ugly smile squeezed out of his dissatisfied face.
She was a little scared, and at that moment she deeply regretted coming to Hogwarts to act as an investigator.
Dumbledore then spoke again, and his speech was no different from those of previous years, except that this year he emphasized that everyone should be extra careful, even at Hogwarts, because Voldemort had returned.
Upon hearing this, Umbridge immediately wanted to refute it, but after glancing at Harry below, he gave up on doing so.
So the dinner party came to a successful end. Except for Umbridge, who was a little unhappy, everyone else felt it was a wonderful day.
When the group returned to the Gryffindor common room, Harry found everyone else already waiting there. As he entered the common room, everyone, including all his Seamus, looked at him.
Neville followed Harry in, and upon seeing this scene, he was greatly surprised and asked Seamus:
"Symour, what's going on today? Why is everyone gathered here?"
Seamus laughed and said, "We did this to thank Harry."
Harry: "???"
"What do I have to thank you for?"
Seamus and the others chimed in, explaining, "Because of Voldemort's return, my mother initially didn't want me to come to Hogwarts, but she eventually agreed, all thanks to you, Harry."
“That’s right, Harry. Because you have defeated Voldemort several times, my parents are very confident about the safety of Hogwarts. They even think that Hogwarts is the safest place in the entire wizarding world now, because you and Dumbledore are here.”
"Yeah yeah!"
Harry suddenly realized that was the reason, and instead of denying it, he directly admitted it:
"Don't worry, everyone. Hogwarts is safe. Even if Voldemort reappears, I will destroy him again."
Rather than declining, it would be better to put the young wizards at ease.
The next day, on their way to class, Harry, Harry, and his friends encountered the twins.
George saw them, waved, and grinned mischievously.
"I wish you good luck and a happy year."
Fred chimed in, "Don't worry, George, both Harry and Hermione are very happy, but I reckon Ron won't have a good year."
"Ron, remember this: Fifth Year is hell. You need to pass the OWL exams. Harry and Hermione will pass easily, but it's different for you. If you don't pass this exam, Mom will definitely not let you off the hook." "I know that without you telling me," Ron replied with a displeased expression.
OWL (Ordinary Wizarding Levels) is an important standardized test taken by fifth-year students at Hogwarts, equivalent to the "secondary education certificate exams" in the wizarding world.
Their grades directly affect students' subsequent course choices and career development, and can influence a wizard's entire life.
………………
Next, Harry, Harry, and their two friends attended Potions and Divination classes.
Soon it was time for the last class of the day, Defense Against the Dark Arts.
On the way to the classroom, Ron muttered to himself:
"Believe me, Umbridge is definitely going to cause trouble. She didn't come to Hogwarts to be a good professor."
Hermione nodded in agreement, "That's right, that's what I think too. That woman is so annoying, I don't even want to come to her lectures."
Harry reassured him, "Don't worry, it's okay, I'm here for you."
During a break before class, some wizard threw out a paper airplane.
The paper airplane floated slowly in the classroom under the effect of the levitation spell, and everyone cast spells on it, hoping to make it fly longer.
Suddenly, the paper airplane turned to ashes in a ball of fire and fell onto a classmate's desk.
Looking back, Umbridge smugly put away her wand.
She smiled in a deliberately kind manner and said, "Good afternoon, children. Playing with these kinds of toys is not allowed in the classroom. You should do your best to study hard."
Umbridge slowly walked to the podium and stopped, facing the many students.
She was wearing the same fluffy pink cardigan she had worn the night before, and the black velvet bow on her head.
The whole class remained silent. Professor Umbridge was still an unknown, and no one knew how strict she was about classroom discipline.
When Umbridge greeted them, several students mumbled "Good afternoon" in response.
Umbridge was clearly dissatisfied with the result.
“Tsk, tsk,” said Professor Umbridge, “that won’t do. I want you to answer like this: Good afternoon, Professor Umbridge. Please try again.”
"Good afternoon, Professor Umbridge," the young wizards replied in unison.
“That’s right,” Professor Umbridge said in a sweet voice. “It’s not too difficult. Now, put away your wand and take out your quill.”
Professor Umbridge opened her handbag, pulled out an unusually short wand, and slammed it on the blackboard. Three lines of text immediately appeared on the blackboard:
Defense Against the Dark Arts, returning to basic principles and the final OWL exam.
"Students, the teaching of this course has always been intermittent and unsystematic, hasn't it?"
Professor Umbridge turned to face the class, interlaced his fingers, and placed his hands neatly in front of his chest, then said:
"The constant turnover of teachers, many of whom do not seem to be teaching in accordance with the curriculum standards approved by the Ministry of Magic, has unfortunately left you far from the level that you should be expected to achieve in the OWL exams."
However, you will be pleased to know that these problems will soon be corrected.
This year, we will be studying a carefully designed, theory-based Defense Against Magic course approved by the Ministry of Magic. Please write these words down.
She tapped the blackboard again, and the three lines of text disappeared, replaced by "Course Objectives".
1. Understand the basic principles of magic defense.
2. Learn to identify situations where magical defense can be used legally.
3. Evaluate magical defense in the context of actual use.
Umbridge's words made sense, but some of the young wizards soon realized something was amiss, especially Hermione, who was a top student.
Hermione raised her hand without hesitation and asked, "Professor Umbridge, I have a question."
Clearly not wanting anyone to question her, she asked with a displeased expression:
"What's your name?"
“Hermione Granger,” Hermione said.
“Well, Miss Granger, I think the course objectives are written very clearly, as long as you read them carefully from beginning to end,” Professor Umbridge said in an unwaveringly coquettish tone.
“But I don’t think so,” Hermione said bluntly. “There’s not a single word about using a defensive spell.”
After a brief silence, many students in the class turned their heads to carefully look at the three course objectives still written on the blackboard.
"Use defensive spells?" Professor Umbridge chuckled softly, repeating, "Oh dear, I can't imagine a situation where you'd need to use defensive spells in my class. Miss Granger, you don't really think you'll be attacked during class, do you?"
"Can't we use magic?" Ron shouted.
"In my class, students must raise their hands before speaking. Who are you?"
“Weasley,” Ron said, quickly raising his hand.
Professor Umbridge smiled even more kindly, "Of course, but the most important thing for you is to pass the OWL exam, nothing else matters."
Hermione clearly couldn't accept this answer, and she questioned, "But isn't the main purpose of Defense Against the Dark Arts class to practice defense spells?"
After being questioned repeatedly by Hermione, Umbridge became somewhat angry. She retorted sarcastically, "What kind of expert are you, Miss Granger? If not, please follow the professor's instructions!"
Hermione was not afraid at all. Umbridge had the Ministry of Magic behind her, but she had Harry Potter behind her!
She pressed on, "If we can't practice defensive charms, what will we do if we encounter Voldemort and face danger later?"
In the past, Umbridge would have denied Voldemort's return, but now that Fudge has fallen from power because of this issue, she naturally can't say that.
So she changed her tune: "Don't worry, Miss Granger, we will protect you."
It was obvious that Umbridge was playing cat and mouse with Hermione; Hermione was no match for this seasoned veteran and couldn't do anything to her.
But Umbridge clearly forgot that Harry would stand up for the girl he loved. (End of Chapter)
