Chapter 373 The Ruined Ancient Magical Ruins
Passing through the last oak grove deep within the Forbidden Forest, entwined with glowing vines, the smell of damp, decaying leaves suddenly faded, replaced by an aroma similar to dried lavender.
The ground beneath my feet has transformed from soft humus into hard, bluish-gray rock. The rock surface is not as rough as naturally formed rock, but rather has a warm, smooth feel, as if it has been washed by water for a long time.
The entrance to the ancient magical ruins that the fairies were searching for was hidden behind a protruding cliff face covered with dark green lichen. Only when the wind blew from a certain direction would the lichen be slightly lifted, revealing a circular stone door embedded in the rock below.
The stone gate is about two people high in diameter, with a ring of fine star patterns carved around its edge. A thin layer of grayish-white powder has accumulated in the grooves of each pattern.
Pushing open the door wasn't as heavy as I'd imagined; instead, it felt like pushing open a layer of water-soaked silk.
The passageway behind the door was narrower than I had imagined, only wide enough for one person to pass sideways.
At the top of the passageway was a large, dilapidated stone chamber.
The figures of several fairies were elongated in the dim light of their magic lamps. The thud of their boots hitting the stone slabs was particularly clear in the empty stone chamber.
The leading old goblin, Grek, crouched down, his fingertips tracing the worn edges of the stone platform, his rough nails scraping against the accumulated dust in the grooves of the star chart, his voice carrying the hoarseness unique to goblins:
"Is this the place? The magical fluctuations we detected outside the Forbidden Forest last week originated from this dilapidated ruin?"
“There’s no mistake.” Lina, the fairy with short, silver braids, held up a bronze detector; the runes on its surface flickered with the magical energy within the stone chamber.
“Look at this frequency of fluctuations; it matches perfectly with the ancient protective magic recorded in Gringotts’ archives.”
Potter's Invisibility Cloak is one of the Three Holy Relics, a treasure even Death couldn't see through. Coupled with the immense power of its wielder, Harry Potter, what could possibly make it vanish into thin air except for a remnant of an ancient magical trap?
As soon as she finished speaking, the young fairy Gil went around to the corner of the stone chamber and kicked the broken stone slabs piled on the ground.
“But these ruins look like they’re about to collapse,” he frowned, poking at the dark marks on the stone wall with his fingertip.
"This place is almost completely destroyed. Can the remaining magic really teleport the Invisibility Cloak to some unknown corner? Can we really find the location where the Invisibility Cloak was teleported away from these magical ruins?"
Grek straightened up and said in a deep voice:
"This ruin is where the legendary fairy Lanlot once fought against that terrible witch. Although the ancient magical energy here was devoured by the witch, a large amount of energy still remains."
Look at these magic runes; they all represent teleportation. It seems that Harry Potter accidentally discovered this ruin and, when he tried to explore it, clashed with the ancient guards of the ruin. Then, his invisibility cloak was accidentally lost, and he was teleported away by teleportation magic.
Haha, silly Harry Potter, he probably never imagined that there was ancient magic in the wizarding world that was even more powerful than modern magic.
Even if he were incredibly powerful, he probably wouldn't have been able to react in such a sudden and unexpected situation without any prior information, which is why his invisibility cloak was lost.
If we can find the location of the Invisibility Cloak first, then retrieve it, and with the help of Death, even occasionally gain Death's power, then we can bring glory to the fairies!
Of course, you also know that our ultimate goal is not to wage war against the wizards. Our strength is too weak. If we were to wage war against the wizards again, all the fairies would probably be brutally killed.
We simply want to use the power of Death to create an independent world, a place where we can hide and no longer be enslaved by wizards, where we can't even use our wands.
The other two fairies nodded deeply. They had absolutely no intention of seeking revenge against the wizards; they only wanted to live peacefully. It's worth noting that in the last fairy-wielder war, many of them possessed powerful ancient magic, yet they still suffered a defeat.
Who knows what kind of power wizards possess these days? Even if they gained the power of Death, could they really win?
Everything is unknown, and they cannot take risks.
Soon, the three arrived at another stone chamber, where the magic runes were even better preserved.
Seeing this, the old goblin Grek squatted down, his eyes fixed on the intricate, faintly blue magic runes on the ground.
His rough fingers gently caressed the patterns of the magic runes, feeling the residual magical fluctuations within them, as if he were conversing with ancient magic.
“These runes are extraordinary,” Grek said in a hoarse voice, his tone steady with the weight of years. “The power they contain is older and more powerful than the most complex protective magic we’ve ever seen in Gringotts’ underground vaults.”
Kiel was slightly taken aback. "No wonder. With a protective force even stronger than Gringotts, I'm afraid Harry Potter really can't resist it."
As a fairy, Gil knew how powerful the defensive magic within Gringotts was, especially the deepest defensive magic, which possessed the power to easily destroy a city.
Otherwise, the fairies would never have been ignored and allowed to guard Gringotts.
However, even if permitted, fairies cannot control those riches; they are custodians, not owners.
They received only meager compensation, with the vast majority of their earnings going to the Ministry of Magic.
The fairy Lina stood to one side, holding a delicate magic detector in her hands. The runes on the surface of the instrument flickered and echoed the light of the magic patterns.
She carefully observed the data on the detector, a look of surprise on her face:
“Greek, the fluctuations of this magic rune are very peculiar. They are similar to the teleportation magic we studied before, but much more complex.”
It seemed that the moment the invisibility cloak appeared, its magic stimulated the magic here, instantly activating it and forming a powerful teleportation array.
The young fairy Gil paced back and forth in the stone chamber, stopping every now and then to examine the equally mysterious markings on the walls.
“But teleportation arrays should have clear start and end points. The magic runes here are so messy, how can we be sure where the invisibility cloak has been teleported to?” His tone was tinged with anxiety.
Greck did not answer immediately, but instead took out a crystal that emitted a soft silver light from the leather pouch at his waist.
This crystal is a magical item unique to the fairy race, capable of enhancing the perception of magical fluctuations.
He gently placed the crystal on the area with the densest magic runes, chanting incantations to activate its power.
Instantly, the crystal shone brightly, and a ray of light shot out from it, meandering along the path of the magical runes, as if drawing a map. (End of Chapter)
