Who let this Dementor into Hogwarts!
Chapter 323 The Last Whisper
Chapter 323 The Last Whisper
Edward and Sissoko got into an argument for some absurd reason, and to Cohen's surprise, the communication barrier between the two seemed to suddenly disappear. Sissoko hissed a lot, and Edward could understand what Sissoko meant just by looking at him.
"What do you mean? What do you mean I can have a wife but you can't? Am I some kind of weakling?"
[If you're so capable, take yours out and let's see whose is bigger! You can have a wife, why won't Cohen give me one?]
"Go to hell! Go find your own wife, Cohen is my son!"
[He's my son too! What's wrong with a son helping his father find a wife?]
"Sharing Cohen is one thing, but what was with that look you gave me just now? There's something wrong with the way you looked at my wife! What does a snake like you know about aesthetics—"
[Its body is completely bare, without any scales, and it has absolutely no aesthetic appeal.]
……
“They…” Herbert took a deep breath.
“Did Dad always treat his competitors like this?” Cohen turned to Rose and asked, “Before he married you?”
“No matter what, his competitor shouldn’t be a snake…” Rose said, rubbing her forehead. “He must have played too many Muggle games.”
“Let them argue,” Cohen said. “There’s also a black unicorn, that one’s much more normal, and it’s female. It’s in the forest, I’ll take you to see it.”
Cohen is not entirely right.
Although Ari isn't as reckless as Hisoko, she's much more composed...
"They're dead?"
Upon reaching the heart of the forest, Rose frowned as she looked at the unicorns lying haphazardly, especially the black one in the middle—they all looked truly dead, motionless.
With the surrounding aroma of alcohol mixed with the rich floral fragrance, it's really hard to tell the difference without careful smelling.
"No, they're just drunk..."
Cohen nudged the unicorn leader, which shifted its belly and made a neighing sound that was difficult to decipher.
"Are these... really unicorns?" Rose clicked her tongue in amazement.
"That's about all for the introductions," Cohen said, shrugging. "Now all that's left is the fire dragon Norber."
Norbert, who should have been Rose's biggest worry, turned out to be the one who put Rose at ease, besides the goat.
Unlike the basilisk and the drunken unicorn who couldn't communicate, after Cohen summoned Norber from the cave, Norber, despite his enormous size, sat obediently on the ground, slapping his tail against the ground, showing no intention of "harming" anyone.
“No wonder Edward was so at ease…” Rose said after patting Norbert’s drooping head. “But the dragon you’re going to deal with tomorrow is definitely not as… docile as it.”
“I plan to let Norber get some exercise,” Cohen said.
"Hoo hoo?" Norbert tilted his head and looked at Cohen in confusion, exhaling a breath of hot air.
“I don’t think it can beat a normal fire dragon either…” Rose warned, “and you’d better not summon this box in public, it will cause trouble.”
“I have a way of dealing with that,” Cohen said without a care in the world. “I learned a pretty useful spell from the goat yesterday, and I can pass it on to the arena—as for Norber’s inability to defeat the other female dragons…”
Cohen's gaze made Norber tense up.
"What's there to be afraid of? If one Pokémon gets defeated, I'll just get another one," Cohen comforted Nober by patting his nose. "I'm not some cruel trainer."
Sissoko and Edward didn't stop until Cohen brought Rose back to the cabin.
“Don’t be childish. What decent husband would feel threatened by a snake…” Rose pulled Edward away from the cabin. “It said you’re not pretty!” Edward retorted. “Do you think I can take that?”
"Alright, alright, you jealous king of Surrey."
Cohen urged Edward on,
"Hurry up and get out of here, I still have to practice with Harry Narnober later."
After sending Edward and Rose out of the box, just as Herbert was about to leave, Cohen stopped him.
"What's wrong?" Herbert asked, glancing at the meadow in the box and then at the cabin. "Cohen, I can't stay here. The Ministry of Magic will cause you trouble..."
“Letting you stay here certainly isn’t something that can happen right now,” Cohen shook his head. “Otherwise, why do you think I said those things in the newspaper?”
"You want to clear my name of that crime?" Herbert looked at Cohen, his eyes slightly moist.
“The Ministry of Magic is already overwhelmed by public opinion because of Fudge’s assassination attempt and the lack of progress in capturing Silver Key,” Cohen said. “Now they’re being suspected again because of the ‘warrior’s family being wronged’ story in the newspapers. They want to cover up these two waves of public opinion. They either need to catch the Silver Key assassin or release you and give a big shout-out to the Ministry of Magic for justice, even if it’s late. I believe they will make the right choice. The fact that they let you watch my match shows that they want to take the second path.”
"You orchestrated all of this?" Herbert asked in surprise. "You did this for me..."
“Consider it ‘Cohen’s’ help to you,” Cohen said. “There’s actually another surprise once you move in.”
Cohen remembered that Mick floated out from the original "Cohen's" body. As a special Dementor with a strong sense of self and even the ability to generate its own happiness, it would be abnormal to say that it did not have a human soul mixed in.
In the first half of the experiment, only "Cohen Burke" could be split and merged.
In other words, Mick is actually the remnant soul of Herbert's unrequited son—the rest of the soul once remained in Cohen, but since he transmigrated here, the souls of both "Cohen Burke" and "Cohen Norton" should have completely dissipated.
Herbert's tears streamed down his face.
"Just doing it on a whim—"
Before Cohen could finish speaking, Herbert grabbed him and hugged him tightly.
He was a little taller than Cohen was now, and Cohen was pressed right into his arms.
An emotion that Cohen had never seen before yet was inexplicably familiar to him surged from Herbert to Cohen.
But Cohen soon realized that it was not an "emotion".
"Thank you, kid."
Herbert choked up,
"Thank you……"
Cohen didn't want to interrupt this time.
The body was weeping, and Cohen felt something leave him, something that had existed in this body long before Cohen came into this world, a tormented yet hopeful, broken soul.
See the world for me...
As before, Cohen heard another child's voice.
Thank you, Cohen.
