Chapter 435 The Monster in the Classroom
Chapter 435 The Monster in the Classroom
The pre-interview didn't stop until the school bell rang.
With Umbridge's permission, the journalists were allowed to stay at the back of the classroom to observe a demonstration of Defense Against the Dark Arts.
But without a doubt, Umbridge's demeanor in this lesson was much weaker than in the first one.
Cohen's constant, malicious smile disgusted and instilled a sense of fear in Umbridge.
"Good morning, Professor Umbridge (Pink Toad)."
"Please turn to the page of your 'Defense Against Magic Theory'—"
Umbridge abruptly stopped speaking in a strange way, and the students below, who were already starting to feel drowsy, all turned to look at her.
“Professor, your hand—” Lavender screamed, pointing at Umbridge’s right hand with wide eyes.
At this moment, Umbridge's right hand, which was gripping the wand, seemed to have grown a layer of rough, grayish-brown, ugly skin, making her already claw-like, fat hand look even more disgusting.
"Shut up!" Umbridge snapped, but her movements were frantic as she tried to hide her swollen hand behind her back.
“What is that—” another student whispered, “It looks like a troll’s skin…”
"It could also be the effect of some kind of spell..."
"Is this part of the Defense Against the Dark Arts course?" Cohen and the others, sitting in the back row, overheard the conversation among the reporters and audience behind them.
"The students didn't run away, they're so brave! That must be part of the course, it's quite novel." Another reporter nodded.
The reporter's voice wasn't loud, but the whole classroom could hear it.
For some reason, the students who originally wanted to run away all held back—
"Merlin's beard!"
Suddenly, screams erupted from below, because it wasn't just Umbridge's right hand that was changing.
“Shut up, all of you!” Umbridge roared hysterically. She had intended to leave immediately—but she could no longer—half of her body had transformed from a “human” into a “huge, gray, monstrous monster,” which made it difficult for her to balance on either side of her body, and she almost fell over while walking.
Her clothes were stretched to the point of tearing, and the right half of her face was replaced by half a shark's head, making her look like a "shapeshifter" slowly returning to its original form.
"Roar--"
Umbridge's curses were replaced by a strange roar. Umbridge was no longer human—she had become a bizarre shark with grayish-brown skin and human-like limbs and torso.
She looked terrifying, but she remained on the podium. Coupled with the reporters' quiet but clear speculations behind her, most students simply found it frightening, perhaps a new way of teaching—though the students in the front row still unconsciously moved their desks and chairs back, because Umbridge now looked like she was about to attack them.
“Dakuvaga?” Hermione frowned.
"What?" Ron was so shocked he couldn't speak. "But—she's actually a... how should I say—a monster?!"
"Do you know what this monster is?" Dean, who was in the front row, turned his head and asked.
“It looks like a shapeshifter,” Hermione said. “I’ve only ever seen pictures of this creature in ‘The Marine Life Guide’—they can transform between shark and human forms, but…”
As Dean turned back to talk to his deskmate, Hermione secretly glanced at Cohen with an inquiring look.
How did Cohen manage to turn people into this?
“Looks like a hybrid of a human and a monster.” Cohen raised his eyebrows.
Words like "monster" and "hybrid" reached Umbridge's ears, who had completely transformed. She immediately reacted by roaring again, revealing her dense, sharp teeth as she glared fiercely at the students below, especially those in the second-to-last row.
She knew Cohen was behind it all—rage fueled by what little reason she had left, she wanted to rush down and grab Cohen by the neck, forcing him to put everything back the way it was. "Roar!"
With a piercing scream, Umbridge, her hunched back, charged toward the back of the classroom. The students in the front row, who hadn't run away because of the reporter's praise of their "courage," finally couldn't hold back any longer. They screamed and dodged Umbridge's rampage, abandoning their backpacks and scrambling to escape toward the door.
"Help!"
"That old woman ate people!"
"There are monsters!"
The disturbance in the front row sparked an even bigger disturbance, and the entire class was thrown into chaos—the reporters in the back row also realized that this was not part of the lesson.
Dolores Umbridge actually transformed into a hideous shark monster and then attempted to attack the students.
"Click——"
While the other reporters jumped up and ran away, a fearless reporter quickly snapped a picture of Umbridge rushing towards them.
As if triggering some kind of underlying logic of being a journalist, those reporters who were preparing to leave the scene quickly pulled out their cameras after hearing the click, trying to take a few photos as soon as possible.
The camera flash drove Umbridge to the brink of madness—her last thought was "not to let these ugly, dirty photos of herself be put in the newspapers," rather than catching Cohen.
Or rather, she could no longer see Cohen.
Unbeknownst to them, Cohen had already led Harry and the others into the fleeing crowd.
In a matter of seconds, she pounced on the reporter who had taken the first photo, her mouth agape as if she were about to bite him to death.
"Collapse!"
A reporter shouted in panic just as Umbridge was about to take a bite.
The red spell had no effect on Umbridge.
"Obstacles! Armor Protection!" Another reporter, slightly more skilled, successfully knocked Umbridge away and cornered her against the wall with an Ironclad Charm.
“Who’s going to call the other professors?” Cohen asked the students who were all trying to squeeze out of the door and no one could get out. “Just say that Professor Umbridge has mutated into a shark and is biting people in the classroom.”
"Click——"
"Click——"
After confirming that Umbridge was cornered by the Ironclad Curse and unable to launch another attack, the reporters took another round of photos at the back of the classroom.
"Is that really Umbridge?" Dean, squeezed next to Cohen and the others, asked in a low voice, "I mean... is this what she always looked like, or is there some monster that took her form..."
“I don’t feel any difference,” Ron said wisely. “She’s actually a little safer now…”
Some students had already squeezed out, while the remaining students, after discovering that Umbridge was trapped in the corner, gave up fighting for the door frame and looked over there curiously.
Umbridge was viciously ramming its head and claws against the invisible wall, and with each ramming, the camera flashes would go off in a burst.
The more the camera flashed, the more violently she crashed into it—Cohen no longer needed to fine-tune some parts of the puppet—Umbridge had completely lost her mind.
