Who let this Dementor into Hogwarts!
Chapter 447 Patronus Curse
Chapter 447 Patronus Curse
Edward was somewhat surprised to hear Cohen join the group of students chanting "Teach us the Patronus Charm!"—but since Cohen had no objections, then…
"Alright, alright, then I'll teach you this for the next two lessons," Edward said. "I was originally planning to surprise you after Christmas—"
A cheer erupted from below.
It doesn't matter which spell they learn; what matters is that they experience the feeling of being in control of the class, which finally provides an emotional outlet for these students under immense pressure.
"The Patronus Charm is an ancient and powerful defensive spell; it is the embodiment of the most positive emotions a wizard possesses..."
Edward first explained the definition of the Patronus Charm to them.
"The incantation to cast this spell is 'Expecto Patronum,' and then watch my hand gesture—before chanting the spell, spin the tip of your wand once, recall your happiest memories, and then—Expecto Patronum!"
A large cloud of silver smoke billowed from the tip of Edward's wand, like an amorphous lump of dough.
The Dementor Patronus was still too overpowered, and Cohen knew that Edward wouldn't actually conjure up such a Patronus in class.
“A true, powerful guardian spirit will have a semi-physical form, usually in the shape of various animals,” Edward said.
"Professor—why is yours smoke?" a student asked.
"Because I'm bad at it," Edward said decisively and without any shame.
“I definitely saw Professor Norton’s Patronus,” Harry whispered to Cohen. “He’s the same as yours—”
"Shh, shh, shh," Cohen whispered.
Harry immediately changed the subject.
For the rest of the class, they practiced the Patronus Charm—almost all the students could only summon puffs of smoke, neither as large nor as dense as Edward's.
Harry was the first to summon a physical Patronus, and when the stag bounced around in the classroom, the other students gasped in amazement.
"Gryffindor gets ten points!" Edward said happily.
The second one is Cohen—he summons a silver unicorn.
Edward's expression froze—
Wait, isn't Cohen's guardian spirit a Dementor? How did it turn into a unicorn?
Harry, Hermione, and the others were also a little surprised. They had seen Cohen's Patronus in that strange lakeside hotel, which should have been a Dementor.
"Want to learn? I'll teach you," Cohen said in a low voice. "You can even conjure a fire dragon guardian spirit if you want—"
With these two standard cases in the class, the other students practiced even more enthusiastically.
However, they were unable to conjure a physical guardian spirit in the end.
"This spell is indeed very complex, and it requires a lot of happiness and talent." As get out of class was about to end, Edward comforted the disappointed students, saying, "Try more and practice more. If you can even produce smoke, that's already a great success."
"Where exactly did I go wrong to find happiness?"
After class, Hermione anxiously scratched her head.
"I heard from Ravenclaw students that if you can successfully conjure a Patronus, you'll get extra points on your Defense Against the Dark Arts practical exam in the Overwatch League—"
"Tell me, what's the happiest memory you just found?" Cohen raised his eyebrows.
"Huh? It was when I went on a trip with my mom and dad—" Hermione didn't know why Cohen suddenly asked her to recall, but she did as he asked.
“No, there’s something happier about you.” Cohen shook his head.
Humans don't know which of their memories are the happiest—but Dementors do...
The happiest thing is the most delicious food. Cohen could tell at a glance whether the happiness emanating from Hermione was actually from the most delicious part.
"That...is..." Hermione blushed slightly and stammered, unable to say exactly what it was.
But Cohen said:
"Yes, yes, that's it—try using this memory again?"
"What—oh—" Hermione suddenly realized something and immediately drew her wand, shouting:
"Call the gods to protect you!"
A silver otter emerged from the tip of her wand.
“Ron, look!” she exclaimed excitedly.
“I see it. You don’t need to tell me how simple it is,” Ron said impatiently, but he was more curious about Cohen—
"Brother, you're much better at teaching than your dad—help me take a look too, I want to summon a guardian spirit as well."
“Don’t you think you have more important and serious things to do than summoning a guardian spirit?” Cohen reminded him.
"What? Do I have homework I haven't done?" Ron asked, looking completely bewildered.
"Sigh." Cohen sighed.
Hermione thanked Cohen and left without even glancing at Ron.
"What's wrong with her now?" Ron asked, puzzled, glancing at Cohen and then at Harry.
Harry shook his head, not quite understanding.
Cohen just kept sighing.
“I can’t believe you’ll get married,” Cohen said.
"How did this bring up my wedding again!" Ron was even more confused. "Wait, wasn't I asking the Guardian Angel—wait, is this some kind of secret code between you two?"
"Didn't you hear Hermione call your name the first time she did that?" Cohen asked. "Think about it, where do you think the happiest feeling she just found came from?"
“You mean… Merlin’s beard…” Ron said, covering his mouth.
“Merlin has a goatee,” Cohen corrected. “At least that’s how the picture on the Chocolate Frog looks.”
“Wait, wait—you mean…” Harry quickly said, “Hermione likes Ron?”
"You like Hermione?" Cohen asked.
“No—of course not, don’t talk nonsense,” Harry said. “I’ve always considered her a friend.”
“I’ve always considered her a friend—” Ron said, “I mean, she’s actually quite pretty… if we were to really… no—it seems like dating would be nice—and with Hermione… I mean…”
“You’ve started talking nonsense,” Cohen said. “Just a heads-up, this is a great opportunity to build rapport by suddenly appearing to have your head back on track.”
"How can we get his brain back?" Ron pinned his hopes on Cohen.
“I’m not your external brain. You need to think carefully about whether you want to be in a relationship or I want to be in a relationship.” Cohen shook his head. “You decide how to develop this relationship.”
This is why Cohen finds dating troublesome.
The Dementors are simple-minded; they only know how to eat, and they'll take whoever has food.
