Chapter 27 Mission: 05-6 Great Love
The space-distorting slash also collided with the shield. Nero could feel the transparent shell growing softer, its rebound force growing weaker. As long as she pressed forward and didn't give the Pope time to breathe, she would soon break it.
The Pope evidently knew this. He gathered the magical power of the Spartan Blade and aimed the tip at Nero. A torrent of crimson-black magic transformed into a beam cannon and blasted downward.
"Shut up……"
He seemed to be stabbed in the darkest part of his heart by Nero's singing. He gritted his teeth and released this dead and dark stream.
This was likely the last time he, as Pope, would hear this hymn. Sandox had envisioned that he would hear it one last time as a human, as Pope, at this year's Demon Sword Festival, before transforming into a god. From then on, this hymn would be sung only for him.
"My mortal eyes could never catch a glimpse of even one of your myriad sparks!"
Nero swung her sword forward, leaving a trail of blade marks in the air like the flicker of a firefly. But she quickly followed it with a second and third blow, and the tiny fireflies intertwined in front of her, forming a bright curtain of light that collided with the dark current of magic.
The knife marks were constantly broken by the torrent, but Nero continued to swing his knife. The bombardment that hit the knife curtain was cut into strands of thin streams by countless slashes, spreading out in all directions, invading the ground intertwined with flesh and blood, and turning into black scorch marks.
Nero continued to sing: "By your grace, I shall never need to look away, until my eyes are exhausted!"
Sandox angrily controlled the magic sword in his hand. Why? He was the only one in the cult with such lofty ambitions. This world was so filthy. He had been granted a noble mission by Heaven and should now be standing at the top of the world's savior, with everyone looking up to him.
What went wrong?
Seeing that Nero couldn't take care of him, Agnus quietly moved behind Nero and opened fire, releasing two more flaming heads.
Nero didn't even look at him, but called out Gilgamesh from his body, letting it change its form, so that it only covered his fists and feet and turned into a close-fitting silver armor covering his chest and abdomen.
Flowing living metal flowed from her chest, wrapped around her red dress, making Nero's figure appear even more slender. Two flame missiles collided with Nero's slender back, failing to penetrate the armor but causing Nero to stagger and interrupting her sword swing.
The magic cannon instantly ripped through the blade curtain, charging straight at Nero's face. Nero didn't waver, spinning and wielding the Yama Blade, charging forward. The blade's flash tore through the light column like a whirlwind, allowing Nero to escape. He scurried to the point directly beneath the Pope and leaped up again.
"Let my spirit be separated from all evil and be focused on this light of supreme goodness!"
The Pope could no longer endure this. This hymn of praise to God sounded like a sharp mockery to his ears: "Shut up!"
No one in this world is more worthy of this song's praise than him, not even Sparta! But what right does a mere demon, relying on the power of a demonic sword, have to be compared to him, the great Sandox, and the supreme God who will soon use his transcendent power to cleanse the world of all filth and sin?
He defeated the Demon Emperor? A mere demon. Sandox could do better, more perfectly, take the title of Demon Emperor himself! He could accomplish something that even Sparta couldn't even begin to achieve!
and so--
"A traitor who drew his sword against the true God is also worthy of singing my praises?!"
He turned the direction of the magic sword and bit Nero's back tightly, leaving behind a black line that emitted a burnt smell.
"My" hymn? He truly refused to repent until his death—this thought emerged from Nero's mind, transforming into a fleeting sneer at the corner of his lips.
He keeps talking about an "ideal world" and "the world has fallen into filth", but in fact, the only thing that is truly fallen into filth is his own heart.
How can you see true kindness and virtue if you look at the world with a heart that is blinded by filth?
The laser cannon was about to be aimed again, but Nero leaped up, stomping on the air to change direction, appearing behind the Pope and hurling a greatsword composed of magical energy. "Then I knew that all the good knowledge in the universe was woven into a single volume by your love!"
The spinning sword finally shattered the Pope's protective shield, interrupting his attack and sending him plummeting to the ground. Nero didn't pursue him, but simply fell back to the ground naturally, opened his arms, and closed his eyes.
This is the end.
"Then I knew that there is only one truth in this universe.
“Only love can ignite the sun and move the stars.”
In this devilish realm composed of the flesh and blood of demons, phantoms rise up like stars, turning into illusory light curtains that separate the world into nine layers.
The wall of the Nine Heavens locked the disqualified Pope firmly in the core of this small world.
The magical power within Nero's body rapidly drained away, but she remained motionless. Only the two demons trapped within the celestial sphere continued to struggle.
Do you understand, Your Majesty the Former Pope? Nero smiled and asked silently.
It's not that Sparta can't rule the world, he just doesn't want to, because he loves the world and loves humanity.
That's why He is called God and you are not. That's why this hymn is about Him and not you.
A moment later, a beam of pure white light pierced through this filthy space, penetrated through the layers of sky, and fell on the Pope.
The Pope was pressed to the ground by the light curtain, still holding the Spartan Blade tightly in his hand. He didn't even have time to scream before he disappeared silently.
After a moment, the beam of light disappeared, and reddish sunlight poured down from the hole pierced by the beam of light, shining on the flesh and blood that was gradually turning into gray-white stone.
The Savior stopped moving.
The magic power in his body was completely drained. Nero opened his eyes and felt that his body was just an empty shell.
But her soul had never been so full.
She scanned the room and spotted "that guy" in a corner of the gradually petrifying room. She unsheathed her Echidna and slowly walked towards him.
Nero walked slowly, her steps heavy, her body swaying slightly. Wrapped in a skirt that didn't fit her, she looked petite, pitiful, and fragile.
But the man leaning against the corner had a timid expression on his face. He pushed the ground with his hands and kept kicking with his two legs that were only half left, trying to get away.
That was Agnus. Not being the primary target of the light column, he barely managed to survive, but he still lost his lower leg and most of his strength, making him unable to transform into a demon again.
