Chapter 28 Mission: 05-7 Gift
"No, no, no..."
Agnes was so nervous that he started stuttering again. He huddled in a corner and kept saying "no" for a long time. When Nero had walked almost half the distance, he finally managed to utter, "Impossible!"
"What's impossible?"
"Your power!" Agnes spouted out words one by one, pointing a trembling finger at Nero and saying, "The power of the Spartan Blade should be greater than you!"
"So what? The Pope can't unleash the power of that sword at all."
Nero said as he came in front of Agnus and raised his sword.
"No, no, it can't be? My plan, my calculations can't be wrong..."
But Agnes didn't want to pay attention to Nero at the moment. He pulled out his notebook from his pocket and kept flipping through the contents. The next moment, a cyan blade slashed across, slicing the paper in his hand cleanly in half.
"My research results!"
Agnes froze in place, shouting in disbelief, "It's been cut, cut, cut!"
Nero raised his sword again and pointed it at Agnus's eyes. "Is now the time to worry about the results of your research?"
Agnes ignored Nero's threats and protested, "You don't know how valuable this is! Through my research, we can fully unleash the power of the Spartan Blade, and then, then..."
He paused as he spoke, staring at the motionless blade in front of him, blinking with a blank expression: "You, you want to kill me?"
Nero looked at him with amusement: "What else?"
"Why?" Agnas questioned excitedly, "Even though the Pope is dead, you and Credo can still use this research!
"As long as my research continues, the cult will one day be able to fully master and control the power of demons! You too can become the strongest evil demon!"
Nero looked at his self-recommendation, the sword in his hand not moving at all: "Are you finished?"
Agnes was stunned again when she asked this question.
Nero looked at the demon in human skin before him, the corners of his lips raised, and he smiled and said, "It's a pity that your research is meaningless."
"How, how is this possible?!" Agnas was so anxious that he almost jumped up. "This is becoming the strongest demon, the strongest! Surpassing everything in this world!"
Nero moved the blade away, and a hint of surprise appeared on Agnas' face.
And then it froze at this moment.
The sword in Nero's hand cut Agnes' neck horizontally and then went straight into his chest.
Agnas raised his head slightly, and the corners of his mouth moved slightly, but he could no longer speak.
"Using your method, you will never reach the true strongest."
Nero looked him in the eye and told him the truth that would destroy all his achievements in life. Then he twisted the sword and pulled it out.
"This is a return gift for what happened before."
Agnas died in utter silence, filled with endless emptiness and despair. No blood flowed from his wounds, only quietly dispersing black mist.
This was proof that he was no longer human.
Nero took Echidna back and slowly walked out, holding onto the wall. He fell from the savior's head. Just when she thought she was going to land headfirst and get dizzy, a hand reached out from behind to support her and put her on the ground.
"Thank...thank you."
Nero turned around and saw a silver-haired, flirtatious man in a red trench coat standing behind him. The thank you he was about to say faltered for a moment, and he subconsciously took a step back, performing the traditional skirt-lifting salute, as was customary with Fortuna. "Oh?"
Dante raised an eyebrow, leaned back, crossed his arms, and tilted his head. His cheek muscles twitched twice, and he twisted his mouth. In the end, he still couldn't figure out how to talk to Nero, so he turned to look at Tracy not far away and changed the subject, "Looks like I missed a dance?"
Tracy, clearly stifling a laugh, replied, "Yeah. Do I need to introduce you?"
"That's not necessary." Dante turned to look at Nero again, his expression back to normal: "Nero, right? This is the first time we meet."
"I suppose you must be Dante. Perhaps I should call you uncle?"
This direct hit made Dante scratch his nose. He put his hands on his hips, covered his chin with one hand, and asked, "Hmm... you're not wrong. But usually in this situation, shouldn't you guess that the other person is your long-lost father?"
Nero pursed his lips to suppress his smile and said softly, "I don't think you are the irresponsible type."
"puff!"
Tracy, who was standing by, bent down with her hands covering her mouth.
"Hey!" Dante shouted in protest, then cleared his throat and asked Nero: "Ahem. Okay, you know..."
Nero consciously took out Gilgamesh and handed it to Dante with both hands.
Dante stopped talking mid-sentence. He cleared his throat again and just as he reached out to take Gilgamesh, he heard Nero speak again.
"This is something I found in the gate to the demon world. I believe it is from your collection. However, there are some questions about the Yama Blade that I think you may know... Is it a relic of my real father?"
Nero asked, putting on a serious expression.
Dante had to swallow his prepared words. He reached out and lifted his bangs, then replied casually, "You have a pretty sharp sense. Yes, this knife once belonged to my brother."
"Do you want to take it back?"
"That's up to you." Dante finally breathed a sigh of relief after hearing Nero ask this question. He put his hands on his hips and said, "Indeed, this sword is very dangerous. It is the key to the gate of the demon world and has great power..."
His gaze fell on Nero, with a hint of approval: "But you have proven yourself worthy of holding it. I had almost no hand in this incident. Your strength and your will are worthy of the identity of the master of this sword."
Nero then put down his anxious heart, stroked his chest, and smiled: "Thank you for your recognition."
Nero's overly serious response made Dante a bit uncomfortable to respond. He looked up at the savior lying on the ground, weighed the magic tool in his hand, and asked, "Besides the Yama Blade, do you have any other weapons?"
"And this." Nero took out Echidna from his chest and replied.
"Looks so weak." Dante frowned, coming to the same conclusion as Nero. He then simply threw Gilgamesh back to Nero and said, "I heard you're using it quite well, so I'll give it to you."
"Eh?"
Nero caught Gilgamesh and looked up to see Dante had picked up the Spartan Blade that had fallen somewhere and was walking away with his back turned, waving his hand towards him.
"Goodbye, girl." He said loudly, "I'll give you another gift later, remember to sign for it!"
Nero smiled, quietly thanked him, put Gilgamesh away, and then looked up at the setting sun.
Then he walked towards the small town under the setting sun.
