Chapter 49: Evaluated as inferior to Shiki
...How can there be such a thing?
Wu Chen pursed his lips and stopped. He was still hiding in the darkness, but not far ahead of him, there was a withered corpse standing.
A zombie. A Western-style one, perhaps the more appropriate term would be "walking corpse."
The Walking Dead are rarely seen in Skyrim.
Because ghouls occupied the ecological niche of the walking dead in the major ancient tombs, and the naturally spawned undead in the wild could not survive in the martial-minded high-ranking officials of Skyrim. It was only after the release of a super-model official expansion pack for the game's tenth anniversary that the walking dead spawned all over Skyrim due to the idiotic operation of a necromancer.
This is not a powerful undead.
It moves slowly, has dull perception, and has average potential. But its greatest advantage is that it doesn't require high standards for raw materials.
If it's a corpse, it can be processed into a zombie. This means that if you see even one zombie in a place where zombies shouldn't appear...
——There will be as many zombies in this place as cockroaches, everywhere.
Wu Chen let out a breath.
He was currently in the regular excavation area of the mine, while the zombie was in a corridor strewn with fresh soil. There were no other living beings behind him who hadn't been struck down and were still alive. Normally, the dark wizard would have concealed his presence by hiding somewhere at the end of the corridor.
The soil is very new.
Even from Wu Chen's perspective, which lacked any archaeological insight, the soil on either side of the tunnel was quite fresh. Several wooden planks, covering the entrance, were haphazardly placed over the hollow space. If fully opened, it would likely be large enough for three robust adults to walk side by side.
This is not a mine that can be dug out in a short period of time relying solely on manpower.
Wu Chen looked to his side. The unmined malachite veins reflected a faint green light. The pickaxes scattered on the ground were cleaner and smoother than expected. There were no signs of heavy objects being dragged across the ground, and no sparse sand or soil was scattered on the ground.
It's magic.
Wu Chen reached out his hand and touched the edge of the tunnel. He felt a hardness and coldness in the area, which was undoubtedly the iron produced by this mine.
Malachite is somewhat of a gemstone, and gemstone veins are often found alongside conventional copper and iron veins. This makes mining and excavation difficult, and the veins cannot be dug too deeply.
Transmutation spells.
Hera Molly had provided intelligence. The dark wizard Gerd, hiding here, was most likely a pure-blooded vampire, but he possessed a legacy passed down from a former academy graduate: a high-level transmutation spell. Much like Iron Armor, which altered the physical properties of air and clothing to provide comprehensive defense, more sophisticated transmutation spells could alter external matter on a large scale.
Fossils turn into mud, and iron turns into gold.
It's not impossible for transformation spells to do this. This proves that the high-level spell Hera mentioned, the potential trump cards the enemy target may have, should be within this general range.
——It’s not the paralysis technique that I can’t handle the most.
The Paralysis Rune wasn't a high-level spell, but it was close. It could instantly cripple a living creature's mobility. The physical strength and spell resistance required to resist it were definitely beyond the capabilities of someone of his level and wealth. And for a player like him, who could rely on treasures to resurrect from the dead, the biggest fear was having his mobility restricted and then sealed.
The problem became a little easier to solve.
He peered through the crack in the door and, unsurprisingly, discovered that there wasn't just one zombie hiding in the passageway. The presence of a living being had slightly startled them, and even though they were slow and sluggish, Wu Chen couldn't possibly have successfully slipped past them with his mediocre stealth skills.
Close your eyes, open your eyes, and breathe lightly.
Life detection is turned on again.
The aura of life in the far distance was still gathering, and there were few isolated living beings at the other end of the corridor. The ritual on the other side had not yet begun, or had already begun. If he rushed forward with all his might, perhaps everything would still be in time.
Wu Chen sighed.
"Why didn't I think of practicing a diving bow back then?"
Candlelight, light up. A bright, cold light, adaptive to vision but also making stealth a joke, silently emerged above Wu Chen's head.
The zombies inside the tunnel roared.
The mark on the back of Wu Chen's hand was activated.
The brilliant halo of light released by the Light Sanctuary transformed into a diffuse barrier around Wu Chen. He then injected a new spell into the mark, and the corpse closest to the tunnel exit was already burning in the flames!
"KEEEE——" A sharp scream burst out from the broken vocal cords.
Wu Chen raised his hand, and a ball of light gathered in his palm. In his other hand, he grasped the Sword of Binding. 'Bang! ! '
The wooden planks that covered the area suddenly exploded, and the piercing divine light slammed into the bodies of the hidden zombies. The flames of light instantly ignited the bodies of several zombies, and they collapsed and died amidst roars and wails!
Dust to dust, earth to earth.
Stepping forward, he entered a broad corridor composed of iron ore. From the depths of darkness, a strange, angry cry emanated. This dark lair, of unknown structure, had been disturbed by an alien force of light!
'KEEEEEE! ! ! '
More zombies were startled, and they even crowded together into a tide. Their mutilated flesh and bones, connected together, exuded a foul stench, and stumbled and trotted towards where Wu Chen was.
mob.
The prepared group healing spell was immediately triggered.
The pale yellow glow extended outward in a spherical outline, and the dozen zombies rushing towards it were immediately ignited by the sacred healing power, wailing and screaming as they lost their strength.
They fell to the ground, and they were still burning.
Their bodies still had mass, and a swift shadow silently pounced from the side and rear of the fallen corpses towards the direction where Wu Chen was, and a dark cold light was grasped in its hand.
vampire.
This was the first time Wu Chen encountered this type of monster.
It truly possessed speed and reflexes far exceeding those of ordinary humans. Even when burned by the light protection radiating from Wu Chen's body, it remained unfazed.
——The wind breaks
His perception sharpened. His speed increased dramatically. Time slowed to a crawl, and the shadowy figure, constantly adjusting its trajectory as it pounced, appeared within Wu Chen's grasp.
The binding sword swung down.
After all, the speed of the arms is much faster than the speed of the legs and the whole body.
The sharp and swift magic blade suddenly swept across the vampire's upper body, and immediately a ball of dirty dark blood burst out!
'嚓——'
The body, weakened by the holy light, split into two.
The incomplete vampire that fell to the ground was still struggling and twisting.
Wu Chen had no intention of touching it. He just raised his hand and sprinkled another bright and brilliant flame from the palm of his hand.
The fire of light burns.
The monster died screaming.
Wu Chen glanced at the sharp dagger that had fallen to the ground. It was the dagger he had been using to kill him. The blade was stained with a dark, foul glow of blood.
Vampire blood.
In Skyrim, ordinary vampires don't require the "First Embrace" common in other fantasy worlds to reproduce. Instead, they simply bombard their target with blood or magic. Beings contaminated by the vampire's blood and power will develop a condition known as "bloody vampire fever." All their attributes are degraded, and if left untreated for a few days, they will transform into a vampire.
——It’s so disgusting.
Wu Chen wasn't afraid of becoming a vampire; he had plenty of ways to treat this infectious disease. But ways didn't guarantee a method. If he were to contract the bloody fever, he wouldn't be able to recover immediately due to his weakened condition.
——I hope this amulet will work.
His thoughts raced through his mind, but Wu Chen's steps didn't stop. He continued forward, stepping over the fallen corpses. Occasionally, a few stronger or luckier individuals would pounce on him, but he would casually chop them down with his Binding Sword.
Simple, direct and easy.
From the depths of the cave came even louder noises. However, even though Wu Chen pushed deeper for a full minute, he did not encounter any strong resistance.
It seems that the high-end combat forces in the cave are very busy.
