Chapter 48 It turns out to be the Hongmen Banquet

After leaving the box, Leon breathed a sigh of relief, feeling the long-lost peace and relaxation.

Leon thought he was a rather shameless social terrorist, but when he was put in a dinner party where all the other people were women except himself, the inexplicable pressure he felt was something that only those who had experienced it would understand.

Especially in such occasions, when there are people laughing beside him, as the person being watched, Leon feels a lot of pressure.

Fortunately, he could temporarily avoid this situation by using the excuse of having to pee, but Lyon himself had no intention of going to the toilet, so he used this time to go to the front desk to find Gus.

"Look who's here. Hahaha, I didn't expect you to be so popular that you could even sneak into the girls' night organized by Jody. It's great to be young." Seeing Leon's arrival, Gus, who was wiping his wine glass, smiled heartily and joked to Leon.

"It's just because of the favors that came out of inviting Jody to drink last time." Leon explained, waving his hands and sitting on the stool next to Gus' bar.

"I understand. Jody is a kind-hearted person, and it's rare to see new faces in Pelican Town. She also wants you to stay in Pelican Town." Gus nodded.

"Are you planning to use the beauty trap on me?" Leon complained with a wry smile.

"Honour trap?" Guts didn't quite understand the strange word Leon said.

"It means to use beautiful girls to tie my heart and make me reluctant to leave this place." Realizing that Guts did not understand, or that this world did not know about Eastern culture, Leon explained to Guts this word that appeared for the first time in this world.

"That's what you're thinking, right? But it's not just for you." Gus smiled and reminded Leon, "This is a two-way friendship."

"What do you mean?" Leon asked curiously.

Guts looked around and made sure that there was no one else around before explaining to Leon in a low voice.

"I'm considered an old man in Pelican Town. Aside from Leah and Elliot, who came later, I've watched all the others grow up. There are many young people in town, but only these few are really outstanding. The girls are the ones you saw today, and there are about the same number of boys. However, these little guys, who should have been childhood sweethearts, didn't pair up like we old people thought."

"Oh? There is such a thing?" Leon was a little surprised when he heard it. After all, in the game, players are considered outsiders, and the boys and girls who can be conquered among the local residents of Pelican Town originally have official partners.

Although they haven't confirmed their relationship, it's normal for them to have feelings for each other. After the arrival of the players, they can freely pursue their favorite characters among these potential couples who haven't yet revealed their feelings.

Why is the situation different in the real world?

"Maybe it's because they're too familiar with each other, or maybe it's because those brats are too rebellious. Of course, from what I know, it's probably because the boys and girls don't like each other."

Gus lowered his voice and continued to explain to Leon, "Love is something born from the mystery of the unknown and the mutual attraction between each other's character flaws. These kids grew up together and know each other too well. It's precisely because of this familiarity that they can get along as friends, but as partners, it's probably not very likely."

At this point, Gus sighed. "How could love spark so easily when they see each other's flaws? Besides, most of the guys already have their own romantic partners, while these girls haven't changed much yet. So, I say this is a two-way friendship."

"I see." Leon understood Guts's point. It was like having a childhood friend of the opposite sex. With a few exceptions, most people treated each other like close friends, but only a handful of them ended up getting married. Rabbits don't eat grass near their burrows, and wildflowers don't smell as good as their own. These sayings were no joke.

"So don't worry, kid. Although those girls each have their flaws, they are all good girls without exception. If you like any of them, go after them boldly. This way, Qiao Di's kindness will not be in vain."

After Gus finished speaking, he waved his arms, as if to drive Leon away: "Now what you have to do is not to chat with an old man like me, but to go back and join their conversation, understand?"

"Well, I'll go first."

After chatting with Gus for a while, it was indeed inappropriate to stay outside, so Leon said goodbye to Gus and returned to the private room.

"You've been out for so long, I thought you went to pay the bill." Seeing Leon's return, Jody joked to Leon with a smile.

"Oh, yes, I forgot about it. How about I go out again? Then just pretend I didn't come back." Lyon was stunned for a moment after hearing this, and then he realized the problem.

Jody smiled and shook his head, then walked over and pressed Leon down on the chair and said, "Don't think about it. I've already paid the bill in advance. Even if you bring this up, Gus won't agree."

Upon hearing this, Leon thought of Jodie's current situation. She was raising two children alone while her husband was fighting on the front line. The cost of this dinner would probably make Jodie's life very tight for some time.

Just when Leon was about to say something, Jody leaned close to Leon’s ear and whispered, “Don’t worry about the expenses. In fact, the money is not only provided by me, but also by others. The actual expenses I paid are not that much.”

"What do you mean?" Leon asked in a puzzled voice.

"You went to see Gus, right? He must have told you a lot of things. I've already given you all the hints. Can't you, a smart guy, figure out the reason?" Jody asked back.

"I see, that's how it is." Upon hearing this, Lyon suddenly realized that the initiator of this dinner party was not only Jody, but there were other people involved. Apart from others, Gus definitely had a part, and perhaps Lewis was also involved.

This also made Leon realize that what Gus said was indeed true, this was a premeditated "Hongmen Banquet"!

However, compared to this blind date conference which already had official significance, Leon was more curious about how Jodi knew that he did not go to the bathroom.

So, adhering to the principle of speaking up boldly when you have questions, Leon threw this question to Jody, but Jody was not in the habit of being a riddle teller.

"You've never been to the bathroom, so you don't know it's actually just outside the door, not far to the right, and you went out to the left."

"I see." Lyon finally understood that the reason was so simple, yet so fatal. Fortunately, Lyon did not do anything wrong, otherwise this fatal loophole would definitely bring trouble to Lyon.
