Infinite Terror: Infinite Reversal
Chapter 205 Old thing
Chapter 205 Old thing
"Actually, I can handle clearing the roadblocks by myself..." Carlos and Zhan Lan said casually, "Although I don't have your superpowers, I'm not incapable of moving roadblocks."
Zhan Lan smiled slightly: "You're very worried about your captain, aren't you?"
“Yeah, this guy…heh.” Carlos nodded, then shook his head and sighed with a smile, “Don’t let his mature and steady appearance fool you, he’s incredibly stubborn. Including the training after enlistment, I’ve only spent a short time with him, but I’ve already seen through his personality.”
Upon hearing this, the Overlord chuckled but remained silent.
“Sometimes, I really feel like I’m the more seasoned veteran than him,” Carlos said. “This guy is a bit stubborn; he absolutely won’t do anything that doesn’t conform to his principles.”
Zhan Lan scanned the surroundings and then replied, "For example, he doesn't need anyone to look after him?"
Carlos nodded with a wry smile: "Yeah... If he hadn't kicked me out, I would have insisted that at least one of you stay to take care of him. He said he could look after the shelter, but what can he do in his condition?"
“He was already an old man, and he was seriously injured... Even so, before you came, he wouldn’t let us take care of him, and he made sure we were all fully occupied.” Carlos sighed again as he said this.
Zhan Lan smiled and said, "The situation is still quite serious... I can roughly sense what dangers are around us, and Overlord can defeat those bio-weapons. Rather than leaving people in the shelter, it would be better for everyone to go all out and clear away the dangers and obstacles around us."
Carlos pondered for a moment, and had to admit that it was indeed true...
“Yes, if Tyrant stays in the shelter, neither of us might be able to handle that thing.” Carlos adjusted the rocket launcher on his back. “If some Tyrant Tracker really gets to the shelter, Tyrant will be hampered in the fight, right?”
Zhan Lan touched her forehead. "That's right, so we all think it's better to take the initiative."
"Yes, thank you..." Carlos pointed to a row of roadblocks in the distance, "Otherwise, we wouldn't have enough manpower or time... not to mention those monsters, even if just one of them broke in, we wouldn't be able to handle it."
With Mu Xiang backing him up, Carlos felt much more at ease.
The three of them worked together to remove the roadblocks on the tracks. Carlos said as he worked, "I reckon we'll all be back after we've transported this batch of survivors."
With Mu Xiang's explanation, Zhan Lan and Ba Wang already knew the main plot, so they weren't surprised to hear this... After all, the Umbrella Corporation needed their combat data, and even though they rescued batch after batch of survivors, they would still be required to go back and continue fighting.
Moreover, aside from war criminals like the supervisors who can be easily controlled, the other team members might also discover company secrets... It would be best if they all died.
UBCS, the Umbrella Corporation's Biohazard Emergency Response Team, is a special forces unit that is not entirely secretive within the company... but compared to USS, the Umbrella Corporation's Rapid Response Security Team, which is a truly covert force, UBCS is merely cannon fodder.
No, calling them cannon fodder would be a bit of an exaggeration... after all, they can provide combat data, right?
So Zhan Lan and Ba Wang immediately thought of the company's possible orders... probably to keep them on their way, and then launch a nuclear missile without their knowledge, wiping them out along with Raccoon City.
Unexpectedly, Carlos continued, "After the old man delivers this batch of survivors, he'll definitely bring us back... Originally, with only a few of us left, he might have hesitated; but with you guys, he'll definitely make a few more trips." Zhan Lan and Ba Wang exchanged a glance, then heard Carlos toss a roadblock aside and chuckle, slightly out of breath, "You guys don't know why this guy works for Umbrella Corporation..."
“The captain used to work for the KGB, but he retired after the KGB disbanded… He wanted to find a place to go, but he had nowhere to go, so he went around fighting as a guerrilla.” Carlos chuckled self-deprecatingly as he said this. “We were the same. He was helping his wife’s side to become independent, and I was fighting for the communists… In the end, we couldn’t fight anymore, so we came here to join the army.”
"Then you've really come to the wrong place..." Zhan Lan and Ba Wang thought at the same time.
“He’s always had the makings of a leader, whether in the KGB, in guerrilla warfare, or in our own troops,” Carlos said, walking toward the barricade ahead, his voice echoing through the subway tunnel. “But he failed the first two times because of his stubbornness.”
"After the collapse of the Soviet Union, he was stubborn and insisted that this was no longer his homeland. He lost his career and went to fight as a guerrilla. While fighting as a guerrilla, he was still stubborn. When he was leading refugees across the border, he was surrounded. In order to protect the refugees, he surrendered to the authorities and was sentenced to death." Carlos chuckled and looked at Zhan Lan and Ba Wang. "Then the company representatives came to him and offered to settle these matters in exchange for his life."
With a story in mind, Zhan Lan raised an eyebrow when she heard this part.
“He sold it and became an officer in the UBCS. Even after coming to America, he was still stubborn, not only sticking to his own principles but also making his subordinates follow suit.” Carlos raised the remaining two roadblocks, which were taken by the Overlord. “The file says he was born in St. Petersburg, but he also claims to be from Leningrad.”
"His name is Michel in the file, but he insists on calling himself Mikhail."
The overlord suddenly spoke up: "Then what do you call him?"
"Me? I call him an old man."
Upon hearing this, both Carlos and the Overlord laughed.
Carlos checked that all the roadblocks had been removed, then turned and walked back.
The overlord stood there for a while, and Zhan Lan could only hear him talking to himself... with the same accent as Mikhail.
“That’s why I said this guy will definitely come back after he finishes transporting this batch of survivors… He’s more motivated with you guys around; he’ll be the same without you.” Carlos sighed. “The old man pities everyone else but himself… But I’ll definitely support him, because I like this kind of captain.”
"Can we help them?" Zhan Lan asked Mu Xiang in her heart.
Mu Xiang replied, "Of course... we exchanged for thirty days."
Carlos suddenly turned around and said, "I believe you because you're willing to help us save people... You and that policeman are, uh, good people?" It's quite a feat for such a grown man to come up with the word "good person," but his eyes were quite sincere.
“Maybe…” Zhan Lan laughed. “Speaking of which, Umbrella’s soldiers, Umbrella’s rebels, and Raccoon City’s police… our lineup is really strange.”
