Infinite Terror: Infinite Reversal
Chapter 26 Evacuate!
Chapter 26 Evacuate!
Just then, a figure emerged from the door behind the Licker and opened fire on the back of its head! Bullets even came out from its front; this guy was not far from being finished.
It was James, the tall mercenary captain, who gritted his teeth and struggled to his feet, sitting on the sliding door and launching a fierce attack on the monster before him. One of his legs was almost broken, making it impossible for him to stand up, so he could only fire from this position.
The Licker roared furiously and turned around. Seeing this, Ryan rolled to the side, barely dodging the claw that made a whooshing sound... and the claw struck James in the chest!
James's bulletproof vest was ripped open with a gaping hole—the result of the Licker's ferocious attack. Without the vest, he would likely have been disemboweled. Even with the vest's protection, blood still gushed from James's chest and abdomen as he was sent flying, knocking down Zheng Zha who had rushed to the scene. The two rolled over and crashed into the side of the carriage.
So, Spence, lying under the button, became the closest target to the Licker… It pounced and bit off Spence's left arm. Spence, still handcuffed, screamed and tried to crawl away, but his right arm was still locked by the left arm already in its mouth. The Licker whipped its head around, sending him flying into the air, crashing to the ground, his life hanging in the balance. Those nearby heard another cracking sound of bones breaking, as if his right arm was about to be torn off as well.
"Zhang Jie!" Mu Xiang shouted as he stood up despite his dizziness.
Zhang Jie had already run to the other side, his hand still gripping the hanging steel pipe. Hearing Mu Xiang's roar, he let go, allowing the bundle of pipes to swing over. The Licker was eating Spencer's arm; Mu Xiang didn't know if it would mutate on the spot, but the bundle of pipes was enough to distract it.
The steel pipe, carrying immense kinetic energy, slammed into the Licker's back, slamming the monster against the wall near the driver's cab door. Just as Mu Xiang was about to order fire, a fiery red figure picked up a section of the steel pipe, took a running start, and charged forward.
It was Alice. This woman seemed to have remembered something, unleashing her combat skills. The steel pipe in her hand, like a spear, was plunged into the Licker's brain. The Licker struggled frantically, but was trapped and unable to turn around.
Zheng Zha stood up, raised his hand, and emptied the magazine from the monster's brain... Finally, the Licker stopped moving.
"Has anyone been scratched by this thing?" Mu Xiang staggered to the box. It was placed in a corner, thankfully unbroken… If it had been broken, it wouldn't have been a big deal for the Reincarnation Team, but they certainly wouldn't have gotten the rewards for the God's quest. "Raine, are you injured? Check yourself carefully; don't overlook any external injuries!"
Raine first checked on JD's condition; the wounded soldier had been protected behind the defensive line and hadn't suffered any further damage. Then she checked herself: "No, give the antidote to the captain."
James was having some difficulty breathing, but there was no immediate danger to his life.
“You need to go back for treatment… The antidote won’t heal your fractures and chest/abdominal injuries.” Mu Xiang injected James with the antidote, then stood up: “Three minutes left, hurry up and go up, don’t delay.”
It was a fierce battle, but thankfully there were no further casualties. As they stood up to count heads, Zhan Lan suddenly rubbed her head and asked, "Where's Li Xiaoyi?"
Mu Xiang thought for a moment, then saw the open door on the other side and sneered, "Looks like he ran away on his own. In this case, the mission is complete, right?"
Zhang Jie didn't say anything, but he just chuckled coldly.
The survivors in the carriage got off one by one. James and JD, the two seriously wounded, were helped up, while Spence, who had lost blood and passed out, was also lifted up by Alice and Matt.
Once at the station, Mu Xiang looked up at the countdown timer that the mercenaries had set when they came in... less than three minutes left.
As they walked up the last step, Mu Xiang, carrying a suitcase in one hand, whispered to James, who was being supported by his other arm, "Don't trust the company too much..." James walked into the luxuriously decorated villa, paused for a moment, and asked, "What do you mean?" He looked back, but Mu Xiang had already disappeared, and Zheng Zha, who was supporting him on the other side, was also gone. He slumped against the wall.
Half-asleep... When Mu Xiang opened his eyes, his vision was filled with something else, so much so that he subconsciously turned his eyes back and looked straight at the captivating thing.
It was an enormous sphere of light, like the sun releasing its rays in all directions, illuminating a vast area around it. Mu Xiang was certain he had never seen anything brighter than this; any other light source paled in comparison to it, like a firefly compared to the moon. Yet, the sphere of light was not dazzling; even looking directly at it did not cause his eyes to sting.
The sphere of light hovered above a vast, empty platform. The sphere was positioned precisely in the center of the platform, where Mu Xiang stood, gazing at the magnificent, radiant light above.
Turning his head to look around, all that lay beyond the large platform was endless darkness… Unlike the darkness he usually encountered, this darkness seemed unyielding to light, utterly devoid of any glimmer of light. That profound darkness seemed poised to devour him, and Mu Xiang felt a moment of disorientation. He then shifted his gaze back to the sphere of light hovering overhead.
"Success..." Mu Xiang chuckled. He changed the plot, allowing the Zhongzhou team to gain more benefits, while he himself also received a substantial first pot of gold!
"Damn, that was close!" Zhang Jie exclaimed anxiously. "But we actually made so much money this time! I've only ever seen this side quest once before..."
After saying that, he came over and put his arm around Mu Xiang's shoulder, shaking him affectionately: "You're pretty good, kid. You got us all two D-level side quests and three thousand reward points!"
"To be honest... it's because I'm quite afraid of zombies, so I tried my best to prevent them from releasing them." Mu Xiang said modestly, then asked in a pretentious tone, "What's the side quest?"
Zhang Jie explained the side quest to everyone, then ran towards a woman standing not far away, silently shedding tears… She wasn't a member of the Reincarnation Team, so she must be Zhang Jie's protégé. Right in front of everyone, Zhang Jie picked her up and kissed her passionately without any restraint.
"...If there are any rules you don't understand, just ask the Supreme God. You can communicate directly through consciousness..."
"Besides finding yourself a companion, don't exchange for anything else! We'll talk about everything tomorrow! Oh, and just pick any room you want, whatever kind you want, just think about it..."
"Hey! I suspect I've been infected. Can the God of War heal me?!" Mu Xiang shouted at Zhang Jie's back.
"Just call for full-body repair!" Zhang Jie rushed into the room without looking back, his speed so fast that he only had time to answer Mu Xiang's question. Then the two of them disappeared behind the door, leaving everyone staring at each other in disbelief. After a long while, the other three suddenly collapsed to the ground.
Mu Xiang, however, remained resolute, standing where he was, and said to the three, "Let's seek treatment from the Main God. Who knows if we've been infected with the T-virus?" This concern was valid. The T-virus could initially be transmitted through the air, and even without injuries, they could have inhaled the virus. Although, judging from Resident Evil, the leaked virus was absorbed by the first batch of victims, what if something went wrong? Even a small amount of T-virus entering their bodies wouldn't be something they could withstand.
"God, full recovery!"
Volume 1 is finished. It did take quite a while, and I'm reflecting on that now. My portrayal of the Licker was based on the movies, so it's probably much weaker than the Licker in the original book who "smashes a steel door with a single claw." The idea that the "God-like" Licker is roughly equivalent to the Alien is something I don't really agree with; I think it's just that Z didn't watch the movies properly to build up the power levels… I hope finishing Volume 1 will help me get a contract. Wish me luck, and thank you all for your support.
