Infinite Terror: Infinite Reversal
Chapter 32 Preparation before the war
Chapter 32 Preparation before the war
Once outside, Mu Xiang headed straight for the main god. He still had two D-level side quests left, which he would definitely save for later; so this time he was only considering items that didn't require the side quests, as equipment for his return to Resident Evil.
While watching "Infinite Dawn," he noted down a very cheap exchange... which definitely didn't require side quests.
"Technology category..." Mu Xiang's mind raced, and the exchange category was immediately displayed. Mentioning "exoskeleton" again, the main god offered a series of exoskeleton equipment for exchange.
Perhaps the Reincarnation Squad hadn't explored enough worlds yet, because many of the exoskeletons Mu Xiang had seen in forums and role-playing games weren't available. A closer look at the various exoskeletons listed revealed a general rule: modern technology exoskeletons cost only 20 reward points, those with technology up to 50 years in the future required at least 100 reward points, and those up to 200 years in the future required at least 400 reward points. Even the liquid metal exoskeleton that Chu Hao had J exchange for in *Infinite Dawn* was the most expensive here, requiring 800 reward points.
He then looked into armor and power armor, finding even more expensive and powerful options, but many required side quests and weren't categorized as exoskeletons. Interestingly, Mu Xiang also found an exoskeleton that only cost 10 reward points, described as the first exoskeleton developed in the 1960s. Upon seeing its effects, Mu Xiang became serious, as this exoskeleton from the last century could enhance strength by 25 times—a groundbreaking invention for its time.
Different exoskeletons come in different price ranges, but they also offer varying functionalities. For example, this cheapest product from the last century is driven by a hydraulic-electric servo system, sacrificing portability and walking speed (practically zero; in fact, this armor was eventually converted into a robotic arm). Its primary use is in industrial production, which explains its superior strength compared to many futuristic exoskeletons. He also saw the exoskeleton loading robot from *Aliens*, which is also quite inexpensive, yet possesses formidable strength due to its industrial applications; no wonder it could stand toe-to-toe with the Alien Queen in the movie.
"So what type do I need..." Mu Xiang muttered to himself. If nothing unexpected happened, the next game would be the classic *Alien 1*. Judging from its performance, the liquid metal exoskeleton armor J redeemed in *Infinite Dawn* wasn't the most outstanding in terms of defense—at least below 800 reward points, Mu Xiang saw more than one with stronger defense. The liquid metal exoskeleton armor focused on enhancing speed and strength, could release military daggers from its wrists, had a faceplate with darkvision, and also significantly enhanced body size.
Unfortunately, Mu Xiang doesn't need any of these abilities. The character J, who has enhanced his B-level advanced Qi Gong in the novel, can't possibly match Mu Xiang's physical stats. Fighting aliens requires not only speed and strength, but also reaction time and defense. Otherwise, the margin for error will be extremely low; he might be able to put up a fight, but a single misstep could result in a surprise attack and instant death. Mu Xiang possesses remarkably high stats in nerve reflexes and muscle strength, enough to handle most aliens without much trouble. Therefore, for the sake of stability, the only area he needs to strengthen is defense… Without super defense, Mu Xiang's current physical abilities certainly can't withstand alien attacks head-on.
Who's going to make up for my lack of defense?
Mu Xiang quickly found the perfect one for him: a foldable exoskeleton armor worth 500 reward points. Simple and unadorned, it required no energy supply and offered considerable defensive capabilities despite its 50-kilogram weight. Although it was a piece of equipment not required for side quests and couldn't self-repair, making it practically a disposable item in the God Space, it was more than enough to address Mu Xiang's biggest concerns. Mu Xiang didn't think his B-grade enhancements were insufficient; he simply wanted to ensure his survival more reliably…
Besides its defensive capabilities, the most useful feature of this exoskeleton armor is its expandability due to its foldable design—at least that's how the main god described it—allowing for additional equipment to be installed in areas such as the arms and legs. Mu Xiang won't need this feature for the time being, but he can exchange for one to try it out first.
He still had over five thousand reward points. If he were to exchange them for enhancements, Mu Xiang would worry about not having enough; but exchanging them for technological equipment was more than enough. With a thought, a beam of light shone in front of him. When the beam of light dissipated, a pair of knee pads, a pair of shoulder pads, and a disc resembling a breastplate appeared on the ground. Following the instructions of the main god, Mu Xiang put on the knee pads, shoulder pads, and the "breastplate," then pressed it against his chest.
With a series of mechanical clicks, within seconds these components extended sections of metal armor, which then locked together, covering Mu Xiang's body. Finally, a helmet-like shape emerged at his shoulders and neck, protecting Mu Xiang's head.
[This actually makes me feel quite safe...] A pair of goggles covered his face, made of extended transparent alloy. In the past, when fighting in close combat, Mu Xiang would always tense up if his opponent poked his helmet visor with their sword... because there had indeed been cases where the sponge tip of a close-combat weapon broke, causing the sword's steel bar to pierce the visor's metal grille after colliding with it, resulting in serious accidents. But now, with this transparent alloy protecting his eyes from all sides, Mu Xiang wasn't afraid. He tapped it with his hand, feeling that the thing's strength was quite good; it wasn't a weak point.
But it felt a bit cramped inside the helmet? Mu Xiang had just finished complaining when he realized he hadn't taken off his glasses...
This exoskeleton armor weighs 50 kilograms in total, but as futuristic technology, it is designed to reduce the actual load. However, even if the full 50 kilograms were applied, Mu Xiang's current physical condition wouldn't have much of an impact.
Of course, he would need weapons to get back to the Hive... Mu Xiang planned to choose a gun that could be used even in the Alien world, so he could practice his skills in Resident Evil.
"What about that gun from Aliens 2?" Mu Xiang wondered to himself. "Is it called the M41A?"
Sure enough, the exchange appeared before Mu Xiang's eyes: "M41A pulse rifle, from the Alien series, the main infantry weapon of the USCM (United States Colonial Marine Corps). It fires on a pulse principle, powered by a lithium battery in the carrying handle. The theoretical rate of fire is 900 rounds per minute, with an effective range of 500 meters and a maximum range of 2100 meters. The rifle's firing modes are fully automatic and 4-round burst. It uses a U-shaped automatic ammunition storage and delivery system, holding up to 99 rounds when fully loaded. It also has a 30mm U1 grenade launcher that can hold up to four 30×71mm grenades. It fires 10x24mm M309 caseless rifle cartridges with a contact-activated fuse that explodes upon impact, resulting in significant damage. It requires 60 reward points and includes one magazine. Each reward point can be exchanged for 10 magazines."
This kind of futuristic, standard weapon, unless it's an unlimited ammo version, wouldn't be too expensive. Among the technological weapons provided by the main god, this gun's power is certainly not outstanding; although described as having "enormous destructive power," there are practically countless more overpowered weapons in the 100+ point tier. However, in the early game, this gun's power is sufficient to deal with the aliens. While accurate kills are not guaranteed, Mu Xiang should be able to master ranged attrition after ten days of practice, making close combat much easier.
Mu Xiang redeemed the gun without hesitation. Looking at the strangely shaped and heavy rifle in front of him, he reached out and weighed it in his hand... It weighed 3.2 kilograms, which was practically nothing to Mu Xiang at his current level. He then spent some reward points to redeem ten magazines, which should be enough for him in the Hive.
Of course, ten magazines couldn't be carried by hand, and he would definitely need to bring some auxiliary medicines back, so Mu Xiang exchanged for a Type 07 individual carrying backpack that only cost 5 points. He stuffed it with a lot of medicines such as hemostatic agents, bandages, antidotes, and other small individual equipment, spending only about 500 points in total. If nothing unexpected happened, these would last for several horror movies.
Hemostatic agents and bandages are cheap, but antidotes are quite expensive. An oral antidote costs 20 points, while a needle-applied, instant-dissolving antidote—the same kind of medicine Cheng Xiao handled exchanging in *Resident Evil 2*—costs 30 points. Mu Xiang can afford one dose, but he'll be in *Resident Evil* for 24 hours, conservatively estimating his infection time at two hours, so he needs to prepare more. The oral antidote doesn't seem to clear the T-virus, but given Mu Xiang's strong immunity, 12 doses should be enough to last until the time is up. The needle-applied, instant-dissolving antidote can clear the T-virus; Mu Xiang prepared 8 doses, a decision made only after extreme caution.
Finally, Mu Xiang started looking up something else… This thing was very cheap, even cheaper than his rifle, but it was essential for returning to the Hive. As he thought about its power, a wicked smile crept across his face…
