Chapter 65 The Society of the Lost Light

Chapter 65 The Society of the Lost Light
The next day, Roland was awakened by the sound of footsteps. He listened carefully and heard the faint sound of footsteps and conversation.

'Yulia is awake.' He was quite certain that this was good news.

He sat up and felt that his physical condition had recovered to about 70-80%, and the feelings of emptiness and fatigue had disappeared.

The biggest drain last night came from the Wheel of Oblivion. He hadn't expected that the cost of rewinding his limbs would be so great; just a few minutes of rewinding almost drained him dry.

The room was a bit cold, and the fire in the fireplace was almost out, so he got up to add more charcoal and put the kettle on top to heat it up.

He opened the window; it was pitch black outside, with only a few dim lights reflected on the frosted glass. His pocket watch snapped open; it was ten in the morning, more than two hours before dawn. They'd been up very late last night; they were probably all resting now.

It was too late yesterday, so there was no hunting or simulated battle.

'It seems I've forgotten about Caius. I wonder if the polar bear has returned yet.' He sighed; his plans seemed to have completely fallen apart.

Fortunately, it wasn't a loss. He turned his gaze to the corner of the wall, where the spiritual energy mixed in the backpack was as conspicuous as a firefly in the dark night. Neither Kiley nor Freddie wanted to get close.

'With so many people vying for it, there must be something good. Yulia can't keep it all to herself, can she?' He pondered to himself, but since the item belonged to the Northern Merchant Guild, Yulia probably couldn't just dispose of it as she pleased.

But the spoils should belong to him; the silver-robed man's staff must be extraordinary, along with the butcher's knife, bow and arrows, and firearms...

He put the two wolves away, giving them a few glimmers of spiritual light. Drake was still fast asleep in the spirit world, where the environment was more suitable for recuperation.

He lit the lamp and poured himself a glass of hot water to soothe his throat. The conversation on the other end continued, though he couldn't make out the content; it was probably about the battle last night.

More than half an hour later, the conversation stopped, the crowd went downstairs, and then footsteps were heard outside the door, followed by a gentle knock on the door.

Good morning, Alex.

“Mr. Otto, my cousin woke up and asked me to call you.” Alex smiled brightly, a typical pretty boy. He looked into the room but didn’t see Drake, a hint of confusion in his expression.

"Let's go." Roland thought for a moment, then took the backpack with him.

The two walked down the corridor to the innermost room, which was warm and cozy. Julia was leaning against the headboard, looking at Roland with a smile.

"Alex, you go out first." Julia's voice was still a little weak, not as full as usual.

“Ah,” the boy paused for a moment, then turned to look at Roland, not expecting this man to be so important. “Okay, I’m downstairs. Call me anytime if you need anything.”

The door closed, Roland pulled up a chair and sat down in front of the bed, casually placing his backpack on the floor.

"Is your injury okay?"

“You can recover. Don’t forget I’m a pharmacist.” Yulia stared intently into Roland’s eyes. “Tell me honestly, have you joined the Extraordinary Organization?”

“No.” Roland immediately shook his head. “I don’t even know how to contact them.”

Who was that man yesterday?

"His name is Drake, a spirit creature whose existence is similar to that of the Twin Wolves."

“A spirit creature?” Yulia asked in astonishment. “Then how do you explain your extraordinary abilities?”

“You forgot? I was born extraordinary, I just suddenly learned it. I was going to tell you, but Tanya said you went out,” Roland forced an explanation. Yulia rubbed her temples, and after a long silence, she finally spoke: “I won’t ask anymore. Your situation is special, don’t tell anyone. How did you find this place?”

"It was purely accidental..." Roland briefly described the incident involving the polar bear.

Yulia's expression was strange, and she smiled, saying, "You don't need to look anymore, he's dead. That little giant with the butcher's knife is him."

"Ah, that's a polar bear?" Roland was quite surprised. His greatest enemy since transmigrating had died just like that, and he still found it hard to believe.

He had imagined many ways to kill him, but never this one. It felt like a huge weight had been lifted from his heart, and he felt much lighter: "Isn't he with your Northern Merchant Guild?"

“How could the Northern Merchant Guild possibly be interested in someone like that?” Yulia curled her lip. “The camp was built through a multi-party collaboration. White Bear is one of the representatives of the Southern Merchant Guild, has military connections, and brought half of the camp’s laborers with him…”

"Is the Thistle Merchant Guild among them? Could their secret mission be related to that ruin?" Roland asked curiously.

“There are many chambers of commerce this time, including the Thistle Chamber of Commerce. They must have their own intelligence channels to be able to sneak into the ruins,” Yulia said thoughtfully.

"What's the deal with the ruins? Who are those people in white?" Roland was actually more curious about what they brought out of the ruins.

“It should be the ruins of a city inhabited by the remnants of the northern Akkadian Empire…” Julia did not hide anything and carefully explained the details.

The previous era was known as the Ice Age, during which most of Orencia was covered in ice and snow, and the entire continent of Alavia, where the Sid Empire was located, was under the rule of the Akkadian Empire for thousands of years.

The Hid Empire and the surrounding countries all originated from the Akkadian Empire, and their common language is Akkadian. The remnants of the North are the later Sauron clan, comprising seven root systems.

No one knows why the Akkadian Empire disappeared. It is generally believed that it was due to internal strife. There are not many relics left behind, but there are many good things. Therefore, it is sought after and explored by various organizations, including the Northern Merchant Guild and the Remnant Society.

The Northern Merchant Guild has a history even longer than the Hid Empire. It is said that the Northern Border refers to the northern border of the Akkadian Empire. It was established by the Safavi family, a descendant of the Silin Soren lineage, and all its holders are of Soren descent. Its influence is mainly distributed in the north-central part of the Alavia continent.

Julia is an advisor to the Northern Merchant Guild and the president of the Glacier Town branch, but the main affairs are actually handled by the vice president, Moreno.

The Northern Merchant Guild's exploration of ancestral ruins is perfectly legitimate, while the Remnant Light Society is a notorious tomb raider. They appear neutral, using the guise of exploring historical truth to cause trouble everywhere. Their extraordinary methods are called "Ancient Ruins Scholars," which sounds quite respectable.

The Northern Merchant Guild was willing to invest heavily in building a winter hunting camp to facilitate the exploration of the ruins beneath the frozen canyon. Unexpectedly, the Remnant Society and the White Bear gang also sneaked in, accidentally triggering the tomb guardian beast that should have been dormant, which led to a chaotic battle.

"Doesn't the Northern Merchant Guild have any extraordinary individuals?" Roland's expression was subtle.

"What do you mean? Am I that bad?" Yulia asked, her gaze unfathomable.

"Uh... I mean, didn't your headquarters send anyone? Isn't this ruin important?" Roland chuckled dryly.

"The magic array of this ruin is still in operation. It requires a specific timing to activate. No one expected it to suddenly activate last night. We were unprepared, and the main caravan has not yet arrived."

"I'm not very good at fighting, and I was unprepared this time. I used up all my potions on the giant snake and the breaching gate, otherwise..." Yulia's expression was gloomy; the losses this time were significant.

Of the twenty-four guards from both teams, only a fraction survived; the majority perished in the giant serpent's jaws. Her reindeer, with its superior bloodline, had to drink a Soul-Burning Potion at the crucial moment, and even if it escaped, it would still die, its years of effort destroyed in an instant.

"What sequence is the White Bear? And what about the silver-robed man from the Relic Light Society?" Roland wanted to use this to compare Drake's combat strength.
