Chapter 18 This humble monk, Fahai, comes from the Great Jin Dynasty in the East!
"This is an open conspiracy!"
After walking around the barrier of the Five Elements Mountain, Niu Jun couldn't help but sigh.
According to his observations, the Five Elements Mountain that suppressed Sun Wukong did not exist in the real world, but rather formed its own realm, existing in the void.
Like a flower in a mirror, or the moon in the water.
Although you can see it, you can never touch it.
The entire Five Elements Mountain miniature world, as it manifests in the outside world, is only about a hundred miles in radius. However, Niu Jun sensed the auras of many familiar demons within this area of only two or three hundred miles.
This indicates that outside the Five Elements Mountain Small World, many of my old friends from the previous life are cultivating and lying dormant.
The only thing we don't know is how these old friends are doing now, and whether they have been converted by the Buddha's light of Wuxing Mountain.
In addition, Niu Jun also discovered many traces of Buddhist guardian deities and Vajra Arhats outside the Five Elements Mountain Small World.
He even sensed the aura of the Arhat sitting on a deer in a temple outside the Five Elements Mountain.
The Arhat Riding a Deer is the first of the Eighteen Arhats in Buddhism, a disciple of the Buddha Shakyamuni, and is also known as the Venerable Pindola.
Its name translates to "Immovable Sharp Root," meaning unmoved and with a firm and strong sense of self. It is often seen in the world with a youthful face, white hair, long eyebrows, and a smiling expression.
A poem praises the Venerable One: "Sitting serenely on a divine deer, seemingly lost in thought; serene and composed, elegant and approachable. The Immovable One, dwelling long in this world, deserves offerings in the latter days, the foremost field of merit!"
Although the Arhat Sitting on a Deer was not one of the ten direct disciples of Buddha Shakyamuni, he was still a renowned Golden Immortal in Buddhism, and his strength should not be underestimated.
Five Elements Mountain is guarded by powerful Buddhist figures such as the Arhat Town of Sitting Deer.
In addition, there is the Buddhist formation in the Five Elements Mountain, and the six-character mantra left by the Buddha.
Let alone Niu Jun being just a minor Golden Immortal, even if a powerful Taiyi Realm expert were to intervene, they might not be able to rescue Sun Wukong.
Therefore, after Niu Jun understood the situation of the Five Elements Mountain, he completely gave up the idea of saving Sun Wukong.
As for whether or not to sneak into the Five Elements Mountain miniature world to meet Sun Wukong and get a close look at the Buddha's six-character mantra?
This matter requires careful consideration and cannot be rushed.
Or rather, he would never infiltrate the Five Elements Mountain Small World before he had figured out the true situation there.
After thinking about this, Niu Jun quickly came up with an idea.
In a flash, he transformed into an old monk with white eyebrows, wearing a red brocade robe sewn with gold thread, a Vishnu hat on his head, holding a golden staff in one hand and a purple-gold alms bowl in the other, with a string of large and precious Buddhist beads hanging around his neck.
Anyone who sees him would know he is a wealthy and highly virtuous monk.
"Amitabha!"
After Niu Jun transformed into a white-browed old monk, he chanted a Buddhist prayer and headed towards a Buddhist temple called Jinhai Temple, which was not far ahead.
Take one step, and you can shrink the distance to a few feet.
It was clearly the supernatural power of the feet that was standard for Buddhist monks and nuns.
……
"Amitabha."
Niu Jun used his supernatural powers to arrive at Jinhai Temple. He saw a monk in a yellow robe at the entrance who was welcoming guests. He immediately put his palms together in a gesture of respect and chanted a Buddhist prayer.
Upon seeing Niu Jun, the welcoming monk was immediately startled and hurriedly returned the greeting, saying, "Amitabha, this humble monk Jinlun greets the Venerable Master. May I ask where the Venerable Master comes from?"
It was this monk named Jinlun who sensed that Niu Jun was no ordinary person, knowing that the person before him was a highly accomplished Dharma Master. Furthermore, in Buddhism, the color of a monk's robe and his age can also indicate his status.
Novice monks and other beginner practitioners are usually young people or teenagers, and their robes are gray or brown.
Above that is the Bhikkhu, a first-rank monk in Buddhism, indicating that they have been ordained as formal practitioners, and usually wear yellow or brown robes.
Then there are the high monks, who are senior monks in Buddhism. They usually wear red, white, or black robes to indicate that they have reached a higher stage of spiritual practice.
The white-browed old monk that Niu Jun transformed into not only wore a red brocade kasaya sewn with gold thread, but could also suddenly appear in front of the Golden Wheel Monk without Niu Jun noticing.
What does this mean?
This shows that he is a virtuous and highly accomplished Dharma Master with profound spiritual cultivation!
“Amitabha Buddha, I am Fahai, from the Great Jin Dynasty in the East. I heard that the Buddha has manifested in the Five Elements Mountain in Xiniu Hezhou, so I have traveled thousands of miles to make this pilgrimage.”
Niu Jun chanted a Buddhist prayer and returned the greeting.
When the monk Jinlun heard Niu Jun introduce himself, he couldn't help but gasp.
The reason is simply because the name "Fahai" is quite extraordinary.
In Buddhism, the term "Dharma Ocean" is a metaphor for the Dharma, signifying that the Dharma is profound and boundless, as vast and limitless as the ocean.
The Vimalakirti Sutra, in the chapter on the Buddha Land, mentions: "The Great Physician King who delivers the old, sick, and dead should be revered for his boundless virtue and the ocean of Dharma."
Therefore, without real skills, no monk would dare to use the name "Fahai" as his Dharma name.
Upon realizing this, the monk Jinlun's expression changed instantly, becoming extremely respectful. He bowed again and said, "I never expected it to be the great Zen Master Fahai in person. May I ask what brings the great Zen Master to my Jinhai Temple?"
Niu Jun said, “Amitabha, to be honest, Zen Master, I came to Jinhai Temple this time because after arriving at Wuxing Mountain, I heard that there are eminent Buddhist monks in your temple who often preach the Dharma and guide sentient beings in their practice. Therefore, I would like to stay at your temple for a while to listen to the eminent monks preach the Dharma. I hope that you will allow me to stay.”
Niu Jun's choice of Jinhai Temple as his place of residence was certainly not arbitrary.
It is because there is a Buddhist guardian deity of the Xuanxian realm in Jinhai Temple.
In the Lingshan Buddhist community, there are five major rank positions: Vajra, Sangharama, Arhat, Bodhisattva, and Buddha.
Among them, the three karmic positions of Vajra, Garan, and Arhat are usually held by guardian deities, corresponding to the three realms of True Immortal, Mysterious Immortal, and Golden Immortal in the Xuanmen Immortal Path.
As for the two positions of Bodhisattva and Buddha?
Compared to cultivation level, it tests one's understanding of Buddhism even more.
Therefore, Bodhisattvas in Buddhism are not necessarily Golden Immortals or Taiyi Golden Immortals, but Arhats and Dharma Protectors are definitely Golden Immortals.
According to Niu Jun's perception.
The Buddhist guardian deity in Jinhai Temple has reached the peak of the Xuanxian realm. He should be one of the Buddhist powerhouses who assists the Arhat Sitting on a Deer in guarding the Five Elements Mountain. He should know some of the inside stories of the Five Elements Mountain.
Niu Jun chose to settle at Jinhai Temple because he wanted to take action against this Buddhist guardian deity.
Hearing Niu Jun's purpose.
A hint of pride crept onto the Golden Wheel Monk's face.
After all, as the guest monk of Jinhai Temple, he was well aware of the profound heritage of his temple.
Even in the Five Elements Mountain region, where Buddhist temples are everywhere, Jin Hai Temple's scale and heritage still rank among the best.
This is because their Jin Hai Temple was personally established by Venerable Jin Hai, who had already attained the status of a monastery master on Mount Ling, after he came to Mount Wuxing.
According to him, after establishing Jin Hai Temple, Venerable Jin Hai did not return to Lingshan, but stayed in Jin Hai Temple to cultivate in seclusion. Every now and then, he would appear to preach the Dharma to all beings.
Therefore, the monk Fahai from the Eastern Jin Dynasty definitely came to the right place by choosing to stay at their Jinhai Temple.
