Chapter 37 Resource Allocation "Potential" Assessment
Chapter 37 Resource Allocation "Potential" Assessment
Ron opened his eyes and answered cautiously, "I've discovered some clues about the 'rhythm' of mental power, which allows me to use my meditation time more efficiently."
"Rhythm?" The officer on duty nodded, a thoughtful look flashing in his eyes. "That's a very insightful angle... ordinary high-caliber people rarely achieve breakthroughs from this direction."
She pondered for a moment and then continued, "Besides meditation, do you practice any other skills?"
Ron was thinking about how to answer. Of course, he couldn't reveal his golden finger, but it was necessary to show some special talents appropriately.
"I have some experience in both Potions and swordsmanship," he said carefully, "especially Potions. I've been working in Mrs. Allen's shop."
"Mrs. Allen..." The officer on duty's expression changed subtly. "No wonder... This explains why you were able to break through so quickly."
Her attitude became more serious:
"Although your starting point was very low in terms of qualifications, you were able to break through from a sixth-level star to a junior apprentice in just a few months. This reminds me of a case a few years ago."
"What case?" Ron asked curiously.
The on-duty personnel's eyes were filled with memories and fear:
"He was also an apprentice candidate with a very low starting point. When he first arrived, not only was his mental aptitude at the bottom, but his face was also extremely ugly... However, within just a few years within the school, he made rapid progress and now stands on the threshold of becoming a full-fledged wizard."
Ron's heart skipped a beat, remembering some gossip Andre had told him earlier: "Are you talking about... Oliver?"
The officer on duty's eyes quickly turned alert: "Do you know him?"
"I've only heard of him," Ron explained quickly. "I heard he's made great achievements in curse research."
The officer on duty nodded slightly, but the vigilance in his eyes did not completely disappear:
"Oliver is indeed a rare genius, but the path he has chosen...is not one that everyone should follow."
She seemed to be very secretive about the name and immediately returned to the main topic:
"Okay, now that you've passed the mental strength test, I need to register some basic information, and then you can apply for resource allocation."
The entire process was calm and efficient. The on-duty personnel recorded Ron's basic information and ability inclinations in detail and asked him about his future development direction.
"Which area do you plan to focus on?" the apprentice on duty asked. "This will affect your assignments and resource types."
Ron thought about it and realized that as a person with multiple careers, his development path was naturally more diversified.
But considering the current situation and the abilities he has publicly demonstrated, the choice should be made with caution.
"I'm interested in both Potions and Spell Studies, but I'm currently leaning towards Potions."
He finally replied, "This is consistent with his actual ability and also with Mrs. Allen's recommendation."
"Potions..." The officer on duty nodded and wrote down the choice: "Mrs. Allen has always had a good eye. Since she chose you as her assistant, she must have seen your potential in this area."
Next, the officer on duty took out a thick list, turned to a certain page and handed it to Ron:
"Based on your aptitude and breakthrough time, you are rated as 'low potential', which means you can only choose items from this list."
Ron flipped through the list, his heart sinking. The items listed were indeed quite basic:
A few kinds of just-okay extraordinary materials, a few bottles of ordinary potions that he could make, and some introductory books on wizarding skills like his "Basics of Magical Potions".
What interested him most was the section on the list categorized as "meditation methods."
There are several gem-level advanced meditation methods listed there, but the conditions for obtaining them are almost harsh—
A service contract of at least fifty years is required, and these meditation methods only elevate practitioners to the level of advanced apprentices, with no higher levels available. Similarly, the conditions for obtaining zero-ring spell models are extremely strict, requiring a contract of service to the school for a specific number of years.
"These conditions..." Ron frowned slightly.
"Don't complain, this is already better than what most apprentices with lesser potential can get..."
The officer on duty said calmly: "The school's resources are very limited. It's impossible for everyone to get the best things."
"Excuse me, ma'am." He took out the sealed letter from Mrs. Allen. "Mrs. Allen asked me to give this to the officer on duty."
The officer on duty took the letter and raised his brows slightly.
She carefully checked the seal on the envelope and opened it carefully after confirming that it was correct.
As she read the contents of the letter, her expression gradually became one of surprise. She even turned over the letter and carefully examined the signature and seal.
"This..." She looked up at Ron with a noticeable change in her eyes, a bit more scrutiny and reassessment.
"Mrs. Allen rarely writes letters of recommendation, and the wording of this letter is..."
She didn't finish, but Ron could feel the weight of the letter.
"Please wait a moment." The officer on duty stood up, walked to a secluded corner, took out a talisman stone and began to talk in a low voice.
The talisman stone glowed faintly, and after a moment a majestic male voice was heard.
The voice was so soft that Ron couldn't hear the specific content, but he could sense that it was from a superior whose strength far surpassed that of the apprentice on duty - possibly a formal wizard.
Ron stood there, his emotions swirling as he pondered what could have been in Mrs. Allen's letter of recommendation that could have caused such a reaction.
Not long after, the on-duty officer returned to the testing room with a different list in his hand. His expression had returned to calm, but his eyes couldn't hide his curiosity about Ron.
"Based on the recommendation of Mrs. Allen and the confirmation of the wizard masters within the school, your authority has been upgraded to the 'medium potential' level."
She handed over the list: "This is the corresponding resource list."
Ron took the new list and after a quick glance, he found the discrepancies to be staggering.
Not only are the types of items richer, but the conditions for obtaining them are also much more relaxed.
Some precious extraordinary knowledge that required decades of service now only requires a shorter service period; and some basic items can even be directly selected without any additional conditions.
"Also," the officer on duty continued:
"Given your expertise in potions, you have been assigned the task of brewing potions. You must submit a specified amount of potions every month, and the rest of your time is free to arrange your time. Occasionally, you may have some field work, but it will be much less than that of other ordinary apprentices without special skills."
Ron's heart moved. This was undoubtedly the most suitable task assignment for him.
Fixed submission tasks can hone his potion skills while also leaving him enough time for other training.
"Now, you can select items from the list," the officer on duty said. "Please choose carefully, as this will affect your future development for a long time to come."
Ron nodded, reading over the list again.
He was well aware of the importance of this choice and quickly made various comparisons and trade-offs in his mind.
After thinking for a long time, he decided to choose a complete set of potion-making utensils and a set of close-fitting protective inner armor.
