Storm of Gods

Chapter 237 Discovering the flaw

Chapter 237 Discovering the flaw
As time passed, Celia's passion quickly faded. The main contents of her notes were completely different from what she had expected. There were no stories, only accidents. As her mind calmed down, the thought of using human organs in the experiments brought a bad feeling back up her throat.

Before long, the two of them also became bystanders, leaving only Li Xin to continue watching.

"Travis, please put them all on the table for me. It looks like it will take some time," Li Xin said.

“Okay.” Travis nodded.

"Is there an order to the notes?" Li Xin asked as he looked at them.

"No, nobody understands it, and people within the Vatican are very resistant to it."

Even the enforcers of the Inquisition were reluctant to accept this, fearing that their souls would be corrupted without their knowledge. In fact, Walner didn't approve of Simmons's contact with Celia either. As for Li Xin, he was, after all, a Night Watchman.

Isaac's artificial human technology is based on the forbidden life techniques of the Earth Mother Goddess Church. Li Xin does not intend to learn this; it is too complex, involving many fields such as barriers, spells, potions, and medicine. The order of the notes would definitely be chaotic.

The notebook itself is very clear, the content is very rigorous, and the handwriting is not messy, which shows that Isaac was focused and calm when taking notes.

This number of notes represents only the later part; some of the earlier drafts had already been destroyed by Isaac.

The hall was very quiet. Five clergymen stood motionless like statues, watching Li Xin and the notebook. They were responsible for ensuring that no accidents would happen, regardless of whether the person reading the notebook was reliable or not. Travis, Simmons, and Celia were also watching Li Xin, wondering what he might find in it.

"Li Xin, can you understand it?"

Li Xin shook his head upon hearing this, but continued flipping through the pages.
"Then what are you looking at?"

Li Xin did not answer, but looked at Trevis, "Trevis, I remember you said that Isaac was not doing well in the Vatican?"

“Yes, he’s a PhD in life sciences, working at the Vatican’s research institute. But he’s not very sociable and is extremely arrogant, looking down on everyone. He’s never been given important responsibilities, so he works part-time as a coroner at the Undertaker’s place to obtain experimental materials,” Travis said. “It’s a pity I’ve never had direct contact with him. Oh, the research institute is an institution within the Vatican, covering a wide range of areas, mainly targeting Abyss Fallen Ones and heretical cults.”

Dissection is indispensable for studying these things.

Li Xin nodded and continued to slowly flip through the files. Simmons and Celia joined in for a while, but soon gave up. Travis was the most patient; looking through the files was a routine operation for the Undertaker. But he really didn't know what Li Xin could find out from this pile of things. The people at the Vatican Research Institute had investigated and found that the intention was to create a monster without a soul, but the result was a failure.

Yes, the result was a failure; he did not succeed.

Time passed slowly, and Li Xin and the others ate at the Vatican. Needless to say, the food was extremely exquisite and luxurious. Li Xin even wanted to stuff a few plates into his bracelet. Along the way, Metropolitan Vorna also came by, chatted with Celia for a while, and checked on her condition.

In essence, the metropolitan didn't care much about the sealed artifact. Blasphemy was a matter of power. What needed to be a concern for someone of Walner's level was that the other party's actions might violate the authority of the gods. However, this experiment failed, and even if it had succeeded, it wouldn't have achieved its goal. Of course, once blasphemous behavior was discovered, it had to be nipped in the bud and not given a chance to develop.

So, if they discover that someone is continuing this experiment, the Vatican will support it; otherwise, the sealed artifact is not allowed to be taken out. The reason they weren't allowed to go to the Vatican is because Li Xin is a Night Watchman and cannot enter. After dinner, Li Xin didn't continue watching. Travis, Simmons, and Celia, like three curious children, had been waiting all day. Seeing Li Xin watching so intently made them seem rather dull. Even the accompanying clergy thought they were strange—they were supposed to be investigating the case, yet they weren't watching.

"Did you find anything?" After Li Xin finished eating, Celia finally couldn't help herself. She didn't know how Li Xin could have such a good appetite, eating both her and Simmons's portions as well.

"No."

"What?" Celia stood up abruptly. "Brother Li, are you kidding us? You've been watching for so long!"

"Yeah, just kidding, but it did yield some results." Li Xin laughed. "Travis, aren't you going to drink that? If not, I'll drink it."

Travis handed it to Li Xin, saying, "I'm not thirsty."

Li Xin gulped it all down. The food here at the Metropolitan's residence was truly amazing. The best food was undoubtedly from the Gourmet Association, and this place was the next best. It looked ordinary, but the taste was indescribable. He loved this kind of simple and unpretentious food.

After eating and drinking his fill, Li Xin let out a burp and rubbed his stomach. "Isaac is a problem."

“Of course we know he has a problem, he’s a blasphemer!” Celia wasn’t usually in such a hurry, but she’d been keeping them in suspense all day. The key was that she didn’t think Li Xin could find any clues.

“I don’t quite understand the contents of the notes, but I mainly look for descriptions that show his emotions and personal characteristics, which can reflect his state of mind.”

“We’ve looked at it too, but there wasn’t much useful information.” Travis nodded.

“Yes, that’s the problem. In one of his lab notes, Isaac was particularly careful to control his emotions, or rather, he was very focused and stable during the experiment, with a very clear purpose. This doesn’t seem like the stability one would expect from a reclusive person who isn’t good at communicating,” Li Xin said.

“Not necessarily. Some obsessive people are very consistent with what they are focused on,” Celia countered.

“Yes, of course such people exist, but look at his notes. He’s an extremely learned person, skilled in all sorts of abilities, and incredibly bold. He actually researched this within the church. Of course, he would have made up all sorts of excuses, but he was definitely bold and meticulous. It took him so long to be discovered, which isn’t something a fanatical person could do. To obtain materials, he even became a coroner, which must have been to prevent some materials from attracting attention. How could such a capable person not be doing well in the Earth Mother Goddess Church? It’s terrifying to think about. Could it be that he infiltrated the Church specifically for this experiment?” Li Xin said.

Celia and Simmons were still a bit bewildered, while Travis was sweating profusely, his heart pounding. As the captain of the Undertaker, he had come into contact with all sorts of prisoners, fallen people, and cultists, many of whom were talented, but none could be as meticulous as him. Anyone with such abilities would never be unknown.

"What is the most important thing for creating androids?" Li Xin asked.

Simmons and Celia exchanged a glance, feeling like fools. Travis frowned. "To give life to something inanimate, that must be vitality. The Earth Mother Goddess Church has the most knowledge in this area."

"So now there are two questions: Is Isaac really dead? Does Isaac have any relatives or friends?" Li Xin asked.
