Kobold Wizard's Journal

Chapter 14 Smart and Foolish

Chapter 14 Smart and Foolish

Old Gold Teeth pursed his lips and did not answer immediately.

While waiting, Ruger thought of the images of scaly kobolds he had imagined in his mind. He thought of the dragonborn kobolds. He also thought of the half-man, the immobile, headless wizard. Since he had said he could help him break free from the constraints of the short-lived, it was reasonable to assume that the half-man had a treasure that could transform the dragonborn kobolds.

Since he is a powerful wizard, he naturally cannot use some junk stuff. If he wants to say what is the most effective, it must be dragon blood.

I'd read in Kalu's diary that besides tinkering with scrolls, wizards also loved to create strange potions. So, a half-dozen of them might have a potion made from dragon's blood. Using or ingesting the raw materials directly would be considered a great shame and a waste of effort. Only through intelligent processing to achieve the best results could the best bet be achieved.

There was a commotion among the kobolds in the distance.

Ai Sijin immediately stood up to investigate. Knowing that Old Gold Tooth would not die for the time being, she no longer looked so sad.

In Ruger's opinion, the relationship between these two dog-headed men is a bit like that of father and daughter or grandfather and grandson.

Of course, the loose family structure of normal kobolds doesn't hold such special kinship ties; they only come together as tribes because they're so weak. Before Ruger showed up, Aisijin and Old Goldfang were likely the only kobolds they could communicate with, leading to a close bond. Perhaps they viewed the other kobolds as more like beasts than fellow kobolds.

Ai Sijin strode back.

She first looked at Old Gold Fang, then turned to Ruger and said, "The Lord of Gray Long Neck is back! Then, they discovered that the Lord of Black Claws was missing! There was a lot of blood! Lots and lots of blood, outside the holy cave, covering the ground in front of the cave..."

She waved her arms, and every time she spoke, the broad shoulders of Dashaheng beside her would tremble.

After getting over the initial surprise, the return of the Grey Long-Neck Saint seemed to have little effect on the several gnolls present.

Old Jin Ya, who had been silent for a long time, finally spoke.

“They taste so similar…”

The old kobold uttered a word as if all the strength had been drained out of him.

"I'm not like you and Ai Sijin. Most smart kobolds are not like that. We become smarter during the process of transformation into dragonborn kobolds... Although I didn't become a dragonborn kobold, I still grew a little taller."

"Before that, I was the shortest and dumbest in the tribe. The dog-headed people in the tribe bullied me, and I rarely had a full stomach. Then one day, they gave me food. Seeing me eat, I was happy, so I ate with big mouthfuls... When I finished it, they gave me another piece. It was the most satisfying meal of my life... I kept eating... until my stomach was about to burst..."

The old dog-headed man's tone did not change noticeably, but the threads of light growing from his body trembled more and more violently as he spoke.

"It wasn't until much later, when I transformed into a Dragonborn kobold... and my brain suddenly became smarter... and I suddenly remembered that meal, that I realized I had devoured my insect-man friend bite by bite..."

"My friend was torn into pieces. I was so stupid that I didn't recognize him..."

When Old Jin Ya said this, he curled his lips, as if he was talking about something boring.

Several thoughts flashed through Ruger's mind. He had originally thought that Old Gold Teeth would know what was going on with those fat fleshworms. Now it seemed his expectation was in vain. However, he did notice that the fleshworms smelled very similar to the insect-people, which reminded him of the little crybaby who had run away without leaving his name.

And there is Ai Sijin, she is a truly rare and intelligent dog-headed person, he may just be an imposter.

"Let me tell you another interesting thing."

Old Jin Ya had a strange expression on his face, a half-smile.

"I might be a royal family among the kobolds," he paused, looking at the expressions of the two men, and continued, "Legend has it that a long, long time ago, kobolds were intelligent. They were clean, wore beautiful clothes, had huge cities, and had their own civilized kingdoms. They were even better than those pointy-eared people."

"But then he did something wrong and was cursed. In the blink of an eye, civilization disappeared, the country collapsed, and it became what it is now. Among them, the more royal blood a dog-headed man has, the dumber they are," he said, looking at Dashaheng, "especially this kind, who are tall and dumb, and most fit the legendary royal characteristics. On the contrary, those ordinary dog-headed men with weak bloodlines who were not so smart and brave have not borne so much power of the curse. There may be a few smart dog-headed men in the future generations." The three of them were chatting.

The dog-headed men in the distance were ready to go out hunting for the Gray Long-Neck Saint.

Ai Sijin turned her head and glanced at Old Gold Tooth, looking eager to make a move. Ruger could tell at a glance that she didn't want Old Gold Tooth to eat anything else. And since the old dog-headed man didn't eat insects, he had no choice but to go hunting with his tribe.

"No need to go hunting. Give this to Old Gold Fang. I only need the tip of one claw as a weapon."

He took out the big black claw, used the animal tooth dagger to barely cut it open a little, and then began to tear it apart with brute force.

"If you and Dashaheng are hungry, go catch some bugs nearby. Don't go too far recently."

Aisijin nodded. At this moment, she knew who the claw belonged to. Seeing Ruger cutting the Holy Lord's claw in front of her, her expression changed for a moment, and she didn't know what he was feeling.

Dashaheng was even more shameless and kept shrinking back, acting like a royal.

Ruger left the meat and left, and at the same time told Aisijin that even if she had to keep a certain distance, she should not always stay at Old Gold Tooth's place.

When he is free, he will talk to Lao Jin Ya again to discuss other things.

He took many twists and turns and returned to his secluded little nest.

Without those noisy fellows.

Staying alone and maintaining the foul-smelling skin spell actually made him feel safer.

He took out the black book and prepared to start learning new runes. The various changes around him made him more motivated. He also believed that the map in his mind and the legacy of several wizards would not disappoint him, but the prerequisite was that he could get there safely.

Of course, these are just the little bug man’s one-sided words. If you don’t see it with your own eyes, you can’t take them seriously.

He felt sleepy all of a sudden and fell into a deep sleep without even having time to eat. He closed the book.

This sleep was exceptionally deep.

In a state of half-awakeness, he saw the tree again, that incomparably holy tree he had seen once before, when his stinking skin was solidified. It was as if he had traversed an immense distance before finally catching a glimpse of it from afar. But this time was different. He was at a different angle, drifting around the giant tree like a piece of catkin that would never fall.

Suddenly he felt that this was not a tree. When this thought came to his mind, the more he looked at it, the more it resembled a tree.

This is a hand, a hand that is buried from the lower half of the palm, and the five thick branches are five fingers.

As for the whiteness of the whole body, it is actually because it has no flesh and blood. It is a fleshless bone palm.

A bony hand filled with a sense of pure holiness.

When he figured this out, the scene before him suddenly shocked him.

He wakes up.

The first thing he noticed upon waking up was that the Stinky Skin spell seemed to be a little different.
