Chapter 57 Incompetence and Powerlessness

Chapter 57 Incompetence and Powerlessness

Ruger sat in his chair, silently watching the hysterical succubus scholar. Ever since he'd placed the note from the old butler, Izel, in front of her, she'd been like this. Perhaps he was teaching him a lesson, demonstrating pure and unadulterated hysteria. It was evident in her now, like she was going mad, unable to find a way to vent. It was as if she had nothing to be angry about, no one to resent, yet her heart was filled with rage, ready to explode.

He shook his legs, not because he wanted to, but because any chair in the room would not allow his feet to touch the ground if he sat on it.

He pieced together the torn pieces of paper on the table while waiting for the succubus to finish her madness.

"Have you finished venting?"

He lowered his head, running his fingers across the table to put the last two pieces together. The person opposite him had fallen silent.

"Of course not," the succubus continued to smile. "It's been accumulating for three hundred years, and it's such a waste to release it so easily."

"So can you communicate normally now?" He finally put the last piece of paper together.

"of course."

The succubus scholar's face has returned to the calm and sweet smile of yesterday.

"Please ignore my loss of composure. I just don't know who to vent to. After all, even if I hate the world, it no longer exists, right?" The succubus said teasingly.

"I think you were wondering who caused all this," Ruger said, swinging his legs under the table. "Then you realized it wasn't this door, the old butler, the city lord who missed the appointment, or the student you hadn't met. You even discovered it wasn't the vanished world. Then you realized they shared the same fate as you, so you woke up and realized it was weakness that caused all this, a weakness you couldn't change, a weakness that the world couldn't change either."

The succubus scholar laughed upon hearing this, and gradually laughed out loud.

"You're right, stop being hysterical. You just want me to look less weak. Maybe if you weren't here, I would have continued to yell for a longer time." The succubus scholar smiled with a charming arc, and she seemed to not care about Ruger's comments on her and the world she lived in.

The two chatted for a while longer, and the succubus scholar seemed to have truly calmed down, even though nothing had changed.

Ruger only wanted to be able to communicate normally. He felt that the other party might give up on himself because of his hysterical look. After all, he could not empathize with her. That was not a gap in experience that could be made up by imagination. It was the tribe, the world, the passage of time, the loss of even the target of hatred, and almost losing everything. As she said, there was no one who knew her name, so the name had no meaning.

"This piece of paper..." Ruger pointed at the pieced-together slips on the table. "It's missing the most crucial point. Old Izel is insane and confused. If we meet that young master, will we be able to escape? How can we escape?"

He could imagine that if he couldn't leave immediately, the crazy old butler Izel would definitely do something out of the ordinary when he appeared with the young master.

The succubus pondered for a moment.

"Perhaps, my student, whom I've never met, is the same as me," she thought for a moment and said, "He might even be dead. It's just that old madman Izel's memory is stuck in years ago, or he only remembers what he wants to remember."

Luger recalled someone scratching the back of his head last night.

He thought that someone might be manipulating the mysterious power of the castle to deliver messages, and of course he also thought that it might be the ghost of the young master.

"Do you have any way of seeing ghosts or something like that?" he said.

The succubus scholar just smiled without saying anything and did not rush to answer.

"It's written on this note that you're a powerful wizard. Old Izel is quite knowledgeable. I've never even seen a wizard before! I naively thought you were just an ugly, strange little devil. Turns out wizards all look like this," the succubus said, looking at him. "I've read in a book that you shouldn't underestimate any wizard. They always have abilities that you can't guard against, and they can give you a little surprise."

"Maybe I have found the spirit of that young master." Ruger blew gently, and the pieces of paper on the table were blown away again.

The beautiful succubus finally looked serious.

She thought for a moment, then pulled out a monocle from her ring and handed it to him. "I hope it works well here. I'll take it as a return gift for your dragon blood," she said.

Ruger took it and tried to clamp it with his eye socket, which was a little difficult. The moment he put it on firmly, his mental power began to dissipate, which at least proved that it could work.

"Since we don't have to follow my script anymore, it will be much less interesting," the succubus smiled. "So I'll only wait three days, no, two days. If wizards are all so cautious, I'll find a way to get to the library myself."

"Ma'am, if you can walk out of this door, there's no reason for me to stop you," Luger said nonchalantly. "If you fail, please find a way to leave me some useful information."

The succubus was stunned for a moment, then laughed again and said, "As the book says, wizards are just like you, that's what they are like."

Ruger couldn't tell whether she was really going or just joking, and it didn't matter.

The class time is up.

He was led back into the room and immediately put on his monocle.

The force of clamping the lenses made his cheeks and nose shrink. He felt his mental energy being depleted and glanced around the room.

Maybe I need to wait a little longer, it's still early, he consoled himself.

Maybe ghosts need sleep too.

Suddenly, when he stood in the corner and looked back at the whole room, he saw a small ball of faint light under the bed.

He hurried over to move the bed.

Prying up a wooden board under the bed, a small square box appeared in front of me.

Inside the box was a small, pointed object, which appeared to be a tooth that had been automatically replaced due to age.

Is this some kind of custom from that world? Luger wondered.

I shook it left and right and flicked it with my fingernails, but didn't see anything special.

Just as he was looking for other clues, a shadow emerged from the tip of the tooth and gradually stretched into a human shape.

He looks like a handsome young man. Although he is not very old, he has a calm temperament.

"I'm finally able to officially meet you, my long-awaited roommate. I've heard servants talk about the lively scene of many brothers and sisters or close friends living together in one room, and I've been looking forward to it. Please don't loosen my teeth, otherwise it will be difficult for you to see me clearly, let alone hear my voice."

The boy spoke fluent and authentic Abyssal language, and didn't look like he needed anyone to teach him.

"You speak Abyssal English very well..." said Ruger.

"Of course, but according to the etiquette of the nobility, we still have to invite the most famous scholars in the city to teach for five years. However, I have never been there once. That is a very stupid behavior, don't you think so?" said the handsome young master.

Ruger's face twitched. He could already imagine how hysterical the succubus would be if she knew about this.
