Kobold Wizard's Journal

Chapter 58: Change and the Unchangeable

Chapter 58: Change and the Unchangeable
"You're dead?" Luger said.

The boy smiled and nodded.

"He died a long time ago. Among the nobles, it's called farewell. Old Izel knew it, but he forgot about it." The young man seemed quite helpless. "I don't like the way he is now. He was my father's best friend when he was young, but he couldn't keep up with my father's footsteps. He had poor talent. It was only with my father's help that he reached his later level and was able to live for a few more years until I was born. He became the steward of this ancient castle to take care of me, a born weakling who cannot access extraordinary powers..."

Ruger listened silently without interrupting him, as if the young man also wanted to talk.

Boom boom boom!
There was a knock on the door.

The steady and unchanging rhythm revealed the identity of the person coming.

"Master, I have brought dinner to your room."

The old butler's words outside the door made Ruger nervous for a moment, but when he saw the calm expression of the young man next to him, he relaxed again. He simply put the bed back in place and went to open the door of the room.

The boy also followed him.

"Master, please keep a happy mood and enjoy your dinner."

The familiar dining cart was slowly pushed in by the old butler.

"He used to say that all the time. My father said he was old and not as funny as he used to be, but he just looked older. My father was the older one. He said that during previous expeditions, Izel was a lively person who would sing loudly during breaks and fart smelly in his face. Sometimes, his impulsive temper would cause trouble and the captain would beat him with a fist."

The boy suddenly spoke, which really scared Luger.

But he soon discovered that even if they passed by each other, the young man, the real young master, standing next to the old butler and talking, still had no effect at all.

"With his strength, he can actually see me..."

The boy and Luger watched the old butler Izel leave until the door of the room closed with the creaking sound of the door hinges.

"Actually, I died not long after I arrived in the abyss with the ancient castle. On the day of my actual death, he took a look at me—of course, it was me in this state, not the corpse. A servant outside the door called his name, and he turned around and said a few words. When he turned back, he couldn't see me anymore, and he had completely forgotten that I was dead."

The handsome young man said with a smile, as if he was already used to the old butler's indifference.

"You know, I want to get out of here," Luger said.

"Yes, that's exactly what I want you to do. We will both get what we want, and everyone will be happy." The handsome young man said calmly.

Ruger pretended to listen attentively, his eyes bright as if he was looking at a golden key that could open the door.

The boy seemed very satisfied with Luger's cooperation.

"Please bring my body out. Either walk out of the castle, or burn my body with magic fire at the inner door of the castle." said the young man.

"That's it?" Luger pressed his nose against his monocle, expressing his doubt.

To be honest, he was a little afraid that he was being fooled, so after secretly casting the foul-smelling skin spell, he deliberately asked again.

"I'll take care of the rest. I've also used the castle to accumulate some strength over the years," the young man said, his figure beginning to blur. "All you have to do is do this, and I'll definitely get you out. Believe me, the Steel Family won't go back on a promise."

Ruger nodded quickly and watched the boy gradually disappear.

"I'm leaving. Take this tooth to the library and you'll find my body. I can't stay here for too long. As long as you have this tooth, I'll appear near you." The young man disappeared completely.

Luger held the tooth and felt no malice.

He suddenly thought of a question: why use the magic fire? He didn't know how to cast a fire spell.

He took out the spiritual heart potion, thought about it and put it back.

He also had a weapon that could speed up spell learning. He activated the space in the abyss bedroom and took out another storage bag, which contained the notes of the wizard apprentice who died at his hands. That guy was quite proficient in fireball magic, and he might even have solidified fireball magic in the spell slot. With a casual wave of his hand, he let Ruger experience the closest experience to death.

Trying to master new spells is his favorite thing to do besides meditation and food.

He did not rely entirely on the apprentice's several notebooks, but still focused on the most basic version taught in the orthodox books. According to what was written in the apprentice's notes, the fire bomb technique he mastered had been modified a little bit, making it easier to explode cleanly after hitting the enemy, which was not conducive to igniting the enemy.

One was a spell modified by a fifth-level apprentice after extensive research, along with the experience and research behind it. The other was a basic, stable version refined by countless people, so that even when mentally disturbed, it wouldn't fail. The contrast between the two was truly fascinating to him, and at one point, his progress was as fast as if he'd just drank the Spirit Heart Potion.

Of course, if you drink the potion at the same time, that would be another luxurious version of the story.

His previous plan of combining work and rest and alternating between relaxation and hard work was once again broken.

When he was hungry, he ate insects; when he was tired, he kept his spirit boiling. Combined with regular meditation to recover, he turned into a greedy fish that fed on magical knowledge in this dusty room. It was a pity that he was still far from having an ocean that belonged to him.

Only the appearance of the old butler could make him stop swimming temporarily.

Even facing the succubus's probing gaze, he still studied the spell silently.

I only selectively told the succubus some of the things about that young master.

He is a gentle kobold.

"If that's the case, it would be difficult for you to go to the library. Since old Izel deliberately avoided seeing him, he would subconsciously avoid being seen by others and knowing about the young master's death. Of course, he would not let anyone get close to the library." The succubus leaned her elbow on the corner of the table, glanced at him, and spoke lazily.

Ruger opened his eyes upon hearing this.

"I have a way, but it requires the silver potion you got that day. I don't think you have used it yet. After all, you were just pretending to be unwell that day." she said.

"You don't want to leave here?"

Ruger swung his legs and looked at her. There was no spiritual annotation on the bottle. He planned to ask half a person after returning to find out what that thing was.

"Of course I do," the succubus said lazily, "That's why I want that potion. It will bring us closer to success."

Ruger didn't waste any more words and handed the potion over. The succubus happily took it and stuffed it directly into the storage ring, as if she was afraid that he would change his mind.

It is worth mentioning that the succubus has been able to return to her room to rest in the past few days.

Ruger guessed that what she could do also happened in the past few days, that change brought opportunities.

"If I go out, will you invite me to your world as a guest, my lord wizard?" the succubus said again.
