Kobold Wizard's Journal

Chapter 71: Access and Disconnection

Chapter 71: Access and Disconnection

Ruger's heart was in a knot. Of course, he frankly admitted, it wasn't just out of concern for the little bug-man. Although he only had four spells, like Demonic Body, yet to master them, he still wanted to go to the city to find the legendary magical spring. Even without spells to learn, he could still practice meditation, which would surely lead to rapid progress. He had previously felt the effectiveness of using the Spirit Heart Potion to train and master the meditation runes.

Come on, Baonte! Let's see your resolve!

Be a man and be brave! Hit him! Hit his handsome hairless face!
As if hearing Ruge's cry in his heart, several magic waves flashed across the body of Baonte, who had been silent all the time. He suddenly jumped out, and a long sword appeared in his hand. This was the first time Ruge saw him use a sword. The two guards in heavy armor were not slow either, but they were cut in half diagonally in a flash. The wizard apprentice in gorgeous robes and holding a wooden staff took the opportunity to retreat and avoid the sword.

The wizard apprentice in gorgeous robes seemed to be pulled by a force from behind, and kept retreating. He waved the wooden staff in his hand, and countless fire bombs twisted in the air and pointed directly at the strong man who was rushing towards him.

It was submerged in an instant.

Ruger was the most special among the apprentices around. He was not staring at the strange fire bombs, but at the long sword in Baonte's hand and the two corpses that were chopped off cleanly and neatly.

His thoughts raced through his mind, but there were always some things that didn't make sense and couldn't be explained.

"Hahaha! After decades, you've still thought of yourself as a knight. A knight is only fit to be a guard," the apprentice in the elegant robes said, his spells still flowing. "After spending so much effort to dismantle a first-level spell, you actually chose Stonefist. It's a waste of time and resources. A crude person won't get far on this path."

This was a rare opportunity. Ruger watched intently with wide eyes. Just as he'd imagined, battles between wizard apprentices primarily relied on fixed spells, allowing for unbridled, frantic casting without interruption. These spells were quick and inexpensive, often complemented by other spells or the pursuit of spell modification. The apprentice's elegantly robed staff and robes were clearly not merely decorative.

Suddenly, the apprentice in the gorgeous robe paused, as if a force was pulling him from the side instead of forcing him to confront him head-on.

Baonte jumped out from the smoke and dust, his figure as fast as lightning. At that moment, the fire bombs approaching him would slow down when they reached him. With his skills, he dodged them and missed only one out of ten. This was for the fire bombs that were originally extremely fast. If it were an ordinary fire bomb, it would probably crawl as slow as a snail. The gleaming silver sword swept towards the apprentice in the gorgeous robe like a ghost.

The wooden staff, which looked very expensive, broke with a sound. The apprentice in the gorgeous robe dodged another sword attack, his face looking very ugly.

Ruger secretly cried out in regret. He looked around and wanted to hide far away, but seeing that the Fire Man and the elf were still at the campfire, he did not move, but just moved closer to the elf.

"You actually succeeded?"

The wizard apprentice in gorgeous robes calmly restrained his emotions and looked at Baonte's sword-holding hands calmly.

"Not yet, but it's enough. Disassembling a first-level spell is neither that easy nor as difficult as imagined," said Baonte.

"So, if you had used all your strength in your first burst, you would have been able to kill me..." The apprentice in the gorgeous robe seemed not to have heard the second half of the sentence, and was very concerned about confirming his guess again.

Baonte said nothing, bent his legs slightly, and then there was a bang!
The apprentices around exclaimed.

The arm of the wizard apprentice in gorgeous robes holding the broken staff had already tumbled into the air. The layers of spells on his body that Ruger didn't recognize and that could make him more resistant to attacks were all shattered and the light dissipated.

At the same time, a fire bomb stretched into a long and thin shape was easily avoided by Baonte.

The apprentice in the gorgeous robes stared at Baonte calmly for a long moment before suddenly bowing, picking up his arm and turning away. At the same time, the black claw holding the little crying bug-man above vanished without a trace.

Ruger looked up and couldn't see the insect man's expression, but he saw the insect man seize the opportunity to hide again.

While he was stunned, Baont had already slowly walked back to the campfire. The flame man stirred the spoon and poured Baont another bowl of thick soup filled with meat and mushrooms. Baont took it and sat by the campfire, drinking silently. No one present anymore tried to stop the little insect man, who was moving forward towards the shimmering illusory city with the same determination as a moth to a flame.

Those who already lack courage were naturally intimidated into silence.

Luger looked around, ran over, picked up the broken wooden staff inlaid with a large black crystal, and returned to the campfire to hand it to Baonte. The strong man nodded and silently put the things away.

As they were talking, the city grew several times larger.

Looking over, Ruger could already see some magnificent buildings. Most of the buildings in the city were white, with occasional black embellishments. The layout of the houses and streets in the city was both regular and beautiful. It was also obvious that different areas had different uses. For example, some of them looked like forest gardens.

"Legend has it that the people living in this city are all servants who have served the wizard their entire lives. The wizard happened to need some people for his experiments, so he granted these people who served him their entire lives eternal life in another strange form..." said the elf Ganaya beside Ruge.

"I guess they can't enjoy the food." The flame man said without looking up.

Ruger thought, I guess they may not be doing this voluntarily!

How could ordinary people obtain eternal life so easily?

He gazed at the city in the distance, his heart pounding, fearing the little crybaby would turn into ashes like his aunts and uncles. Then, he'd have to tell a white lie to deal with the little bug in the egg. This little creature in the egg, while seemingly devoid of spiritual wisdom, was growing increasingly intelligent. It was also a strange bug.

It was a long wait, and everyone seemed to be on edge. It was extremely quiet all around. Even the lizardmen carefully slowed down their breathing. One of them had an itchy nose and was slapped by his companion.

Suddenly, the entire space trembled.

The mysterious city seems to have been inserted with a key that has been waiting for a thousand years.

It began to expand rapidly before everyone's eyes. Ruger strained his gaze, searching for the insect-man. At the end of a street, he spotted a small, blurry figure flitting past, seemingly entering a building. As the mystery city grew, he could even make out the faint shadows of people in some buildings, twirling and spinning, as if having a dance party amidst laughter and joy.

He looked out at the scene, which should have made him feel happy, but instead it seemed strange and incomprehensible.

As the city grew larger, golden stairways began to descend from the sky.

Luger looked at the people around him.

The Fire Man has put away the pot, and everyone is on high alert. The wild wizard apprentices in the distance have their eyes shining, and excitement is hidden under their calmness.

He adhered to his principles, closely watching the elves' movements. Only when he saw them move did he follow suit. The golden staircase was breathtakingly beautiful. As soon as it descended, a wizard apprentice ascended it, then disappeared from view. Luger and the others followed behind. He stood beside Baonte and the others, acting like a bully. No one dared to approach, leaving a clear path for the staircase.

The moment he stepped forward, he was engulfed in dazzling golden light.

Then he appeared in a square. He blinked his eyes, looked at the beautiful fountain in the distance, and then looked at the several unfamiliar wizard apprentices around him. The elf and the fire man who were closer to him were gone, but fortunately, Baonte was still there.
