Chapter 64: Politics requires sacrifice, of course, the sacrifice of others

Chapter 64: Politics requires sacrifice, of course, the sacrifice of others (Please read and vote for me)
The president waved away the smoke and his eyes swept across everyone's faces, finally stopping on Jack.

That CD was the one he brought back from Chicago.

"Mr. President, according to legal procedures, you should not be here now."

Secretary Holder's tone was harsh, showing no mercy to the president who had promoted him. "The case we are discussing is not suitable for your participation."

After saying this, he swept his gloomy eyes over his colleagues present.

It goes without saying that someone must have secretly tipped off the White House, which is why the president came in person.

"Haha, Holder, don't be so serious."

The President casually pulled up a chair and sat down, smiling calmly, "As a president who is a lawyer, my position will always be with judicial justice."

Holder frowned, sat back in his seat and didn't say anything else.

With the other party joining in, the atmosphere of the meeting on whether to expose the scandals of senior officials of both parties became more tense.

Deputy Minister Ogden smiled, breaking the silence. "Actually, President, you've arrived just in time. We're discussing the sealing of sensitive information. In addition to the Department of Justice's approval, we also need your special authorization."

"Oh?"

The black commander was surprised when he heard this and asked, "What confidential information is so important?"

"It's nothing, just some private matters between party elders." Assistant Minister Chris answered lightly, his tone extremely relaxed.

The commander-in-chief nodded in understanding. "I see. I'll have the Chief of Staff handle it later."

Listening to their conversation, Holder's face became more and more ugly.

He has been fighting judicial corruption all his life since he graduated from law school, but now he is watching helplessly as the highest level of power in the country openly covers up the crime in front of him.

But as Thomas just said, when they reach their position, many decisions can no longer be measured by fairness.

Just when he was feeling discouraged, a cold voice suddenly came from the corner.

"Let me remind you."

Jack turned sideways to face the crowd and said in a cold tone, "Mr. President, ministers, and directors, when I brought this information back, I promised them that I would make the scandal public. If we break our promise, I'm afraid it will lead to unpredictable consequences."

"That Chicago police officer?" The deputy minister was stunned for a moment, then slammed the table in frustration. "Jack! Don't tell me you didn't get rid of him!"

The Director of Security also had a gloomy expression. "That's not like you, Jack. Conventionally, the first thing you should do when you get the information is to make sure the other person shuts up forever."

"Dispose of it?"

Jack laughed in anger, stabbing his chest hard with his finger. "I've been in charge of the Counter-Terrorism Bureau for nine years. I've pointed my gun at terrorism, drug lords, and spies, but never at law-abiding citizens! When did you start to think I'd do something like silence someone?!"

"you--"

boom!
Holder pounded the table to interrupt the argument.

The judicial elder glared at the two high-ranking officials who were speaking outrageously: "Thomas! Ogden! Do you know what nonsense you just said?!"

The two men shrugged in silence and stopped talking, but it was obvious that they were dissatisfied with what Jack had done.

Jack swept a cold gaze over them and continued, "Based on my understanding of Officer Butcher, if he dared to do such a thing, he must have a backup plan. Maybe what we got was just a burned copy, and the original is still in his hands. If we break our promise——"

He deliberately dragged out his voice and said, "Next time he might not look for me, but someone from the East or Russia." The meeting room suddenly fell silent.

The black president was especially silent, his eyes narrowed into dangerous slits.

He is more worried about the information falling into the hands of political opponents than leaking it to foreign countries - which would mean he could become the first president in 30 years to fail to win re-election.

"Can't we send elite troops to track Butcher down?" the Assistant Minister suggested. "Find out all of his movements and wipe out all the backup."

Jack shook his head slightly, spreading his hands exaggeratedly. "If you've read Officer Butcher's resume, you'll know he's a military elite, expert in counter-reconnaissance, tracking, and ambushes. He also possesses combat capabilities comparable to top-tier operatives. Before I even met him, a team of CIA agents had already fallen to him."

Deputy Minister Ogden suddenly thought of something and looked at the President. "Your Excellency, has the [machine] ever spit out the social security number of this Rorschach Butcher?"

Hearing this, everyone present looked at him in confusion.

Only Jack and the Attorney General looked calm, as if they knew exactly what the "machine" the other party was talking about meant.

The Commander-in-Chief shook his head slightly and explained, "It has not been mentioned. Perhaps in the Machine's assessment, he has not yet posed a direct threat to national security."

"From this perspective, this person may still be trustworthy." Ogden nodded and said no more.

"Alas, politics requires sacrifice, and national security requires even greater sacrifice."

The commander-in-chief sighed slowly, glanced at everyone, and said solemnly: "Now that the scandal has occurred, we must make some choices. You can select a few suitable candidates and make it public. I will not participate in this matter. See you in the parliament."

He nodded slightly to the deputy minister, glanced at Minister Holder and Jack, then stood up and left the meeting room.

With the decision of the President, the senior officials of the Ministry of Justice exchanged glances and understood what was going on.

"Chuck Schumer is already quite old, and he's still sitting there as vice chairman of the caucus. This scandal just happened to expose him and make him move."

"I never knew McConnell had such a peculiar habit. This old man has always opposed the proposal for health care reform. Now, let him go to jail for opposing it."

"And then there's the Armed Services Committee, which happens to be missing representatives from both our parties."

Jack and Attorney General Holder looked at each other and saw fatigue and helplessness in each other's eyes.

The scandalous discs that were once enough to shake the foundations of both parties have now become a tool for them to eliminate dissidents and install their own confidants.

Does politics require sacrifice?
Of course, but only at the expense of others!

Jack let out a breath and walked out of the meeting room.

Although no one said it explicitly, everyone knew in their hearts that at this critical moment, Rorschach's life was temporarily saved.

Jack believed that unless Rorschach was a fool, he would not think that all the scandals in these CDs could be exposed.

After all, in addition to several veteran officials from both parties who are about to retire, there are also senior cabinet members.

In this country, no matter who gets these scandals, they will not be exposed easily.

As for whether Rorschach had backed up these CDs?

Holy shit, do I even need to ask this?!
