Chapter 48 Killing the Demon (Part 2)

The recoil from the Miao Dao numbed Gu Yi's palms, and the blade's friction with the scales sent out dazzling sparks. The monster twitched and propped itself up amidst the rubble. Its bony tail suddenly lashed the ground like a steel whip, sending concrete fragments flying like rain under the reaction force.

"You are really hard. It is difficult to cut your scales." Gu Yi shook his numb wrist, and the emerald Pixiu on the hilt of the knife emitted a cold light.

He was answered with a roar that ripped the air apart. The monster's limbs, curled up, suddenly stretched out, its claws tracing four intersecting silver arcs in the moonlight. A golden light shone in Gu Yi's pupils, and the dust within a ten-meter radius suddenly stopped in its tracks. The moment the Zero Time Zone unfolded, he spun and stepped sideways, his blade slicing through the scales of his right ribcage.

The blue-black blood mist slowly expanded in the time-slowing field. When the flow of time returned to normal, the monster was like being hit by an invisible hammer, and it crashed through the load-bearing wall with brick and stone fragments.

Caesar's gunfire ripped through the darkness. The modified Desert Eagle spewed a cross of flames, its .50AE bullet piercing the monster's healing wound. Its newly formed scales, fragile as glass under the specially designed mercury core, spurted black blood from the impact point, splattering the wall.

"Be careful!" Gu Yi suddenly shouted.

Caesar was about to change the magazine when a terrifying image surfaced on his retina—the monster that had been slumped in the rubble had transformed into Gu Yi, lunging at him with a knife! Tactical instinct overrode rational judgment, and he subconsciously deflected the gun by fifteen degrees.

The real Gu Yi leaped as the bullet grazed his ear, his boot soles slamming into the wall for leverage. A mid-air knee strike sent the attacking monster flying out the window. The glass shattered under the impact of his dragon-like form, and moonlight poured into the messy ground.

"You are controlled by Wang Zhishi?" Gu Yi thrust the Miao Dao into the floor with his backhand, the blade still vibrating at a high frequency.

Caesar ripped open his sweat-soaked collar. "No, but I did see you transformed into this beast." He pointed the gun out the window. "It seems his words are phantom pupils?"

"What a nice name." Gu Yi drew his sword and shook off the blood. "I'll attack first, and you provide support."

Gu Yi walked out of the house and saw golden lines flickering on the outside of the building.

Outside the light prison composed of the alchemical matrix, a large number of Executive Bureau commissioners were on standby, their faces solemn, and the guns in their hands were glowing a glacial blue.

"Death!" the monster's shattered throat uttered an indistinct syllable, and its bony tail suddenly curled up into a dark red glow. Gu Yi's pupils shrank suddenly—at the end of that twisted limb, there was actually a micro-syringe!

Gu Yi didn't know what it was, but he knew he had to stop it.

The zero-time domain instantly expanded, and the suspended dust particles condensed into a galaxy in the moonlight. But the monster had already anticipated the situation and moved in advance. The moment the needle pierced its mouth, the dark red liquid was completely pushed into its blood vessels.

A flash of knife light passed, and three sharp claws shot up into the sky, accompanied by black blood. The glass tube of the syringe exploded in the monster's palm. As Gu Yi sheathed the knife, he could hear his own rapid heartbeat.

It's still too late!

"Damn..."

"Roar!!!"

The monster's back suddenly arched, and golden-red lines like lava oozed from the cracks in its scales. Its body, originally two meters tall, suddenly expanded to three meters. Gu Yi didn't even have time to retract his sword before the sound of it piercing the air reached his ears.

"clang!"

The blade of the Qinghe sword curved into a breathtaking arc, its immense force striking Gu Yi like a battering ram. He crashed through the outer wall of the house, coughing up blood foam in the cloud of dust.

The monster roared to the sky, stomping the ground and lunging forward. Its bony tail swept aside the obstructing support column, and its newly born dragon-like forelimbs tore through the smoke, its sharp claws pointing directly at the boy's throat.

"Bang! Bang!"

At the critical moment, two bursts of gunfire pierced the darkness like meteors. Caesar fired twice, the specially designed bullets exploding on the monster's forehead, spraying dark blue blood. Amalgam seethed between its scales, and the dragon-like creature's momentum faltered.

Seeing this, Caesar dropped his pistol, stepped on the toppled display case and leaped up, his sword drawing a golden crescent.

The dull thud of the hunting knife piercing the skull was a tooth-grinding sound, and sparks flew as the blade rubbed against the newly formed bone plates. The monster was thrown back by the immense force and sent flying backwards.

"Can you still fight?" Caesar pulled away the oak beam that was pressing on Gu Yi.

The young man wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth. The Pixiu pattern on the blade of the Qinghe Blade was emitting a halo of flowing water. "Of course."

From deep within the ruins came the horrifying sound of bones cracking. The monster's spines erupted into dragon-like plates, its tail vertebrae split into scorpion-like appendages, and its blue-gray scales gave way to obsidian-textured dragon scales.

Walker clutched the intercom and yelled, "Requesting support from the trainee specialist! Repeat!"

"Denied." Schneider's voice came through the communicator with a murmur of electricity. "The subjugation will continue to be carried out by the trainee specialists."

Walker was stunned. Schneider was tough and cold, but he was not someone who ignored life.

"kill!!!"

The dragon-like monster roared towards the sky, and the sound waves shattered the glass within a ten-meter radius. The obsidian scales began to show lava patterns as it roared. It turned into black lightning and rushed forward, shattering any obstacles along the way like paper.

Gu Yi squinted his eyes in the splashing crystal rain, the brightness of his golden pupils suddenly increased, and the Qinghe Knife in his hand suddenly rang out like a zither vibrato.
The time zero domain spread out instantly, Gu Yi leaped up, and swung the Miao Dao to create a full moon.

The monster, which used to be as slow as a snail in the area, now left an afterimage when waving its claws. Its pair of molten gold vertical pupils were spinning at an astonishing speed, tightly following the boy's movement.

Gu Yi swatted the monster's claws away. Sparks from the collision between the blade and the dragon's claws illuminated the monster's breastplate.

"If you can't cut, then stab!"

Time Zero exerted all his strength, and the tip of the Qinghe Blade condensed into a cold star. He spun around and thrust forward, and the tip of the blade accurately pierced the monster's breastplate.

The moment the blade pierced the monster's chest, time returned to normal. A tremendous force pierced the hilt, and black blood gushed out of the monster's chest like a high-pressure water gun.

"Crack!"

But the tip of the knife didn't pierce the heart as Gu Yi had hoped. Instead, it got stuck in the dragon's unique ring-shaped bone cage. His pupils constricted suddenly—those new bones were growing at a visible rate, and in a blink of an eye, they were about to lock onto the blade.

Gu Yi saw a twisted sneer on the monster's distorted face, as if its plan had succeeded.

"Come out!"

He roared, sheathed his blade, and slammed his boot into the monster's chest, sending both of them flying. The boy used the momentum to do a backflip, pulling his blade free just before the cage closed.

The monster's three-meter-tall body flew backwards and crashed through the outer wall of the house, then flew out again. The black blood spilled along the way reflected a colorful halo in the moonlight.

Gu Yi flipped back in mid-air and landed on the ground. Blood dripped from the tip of his knife and splattered in front of Caesar's feet. "See? Conventional means can't break its defense."

"Should we use that?" Caesar hesitated.

"Use it, kill him as soon as possible."
