Chapter 139 Turning the corner into safety
Chapter 139 Turning the corner into safety
After he was safe, Yan Hui became angrier and angrier. Thinking about what he had been through recently, he had no desire to run away anymore.
He gradually caught his breath and began to seriously consider the problem at hand.
He wasn't sure what time it was, but judging from his own exhaustion, he hadn't slept for very long. It was probably around one or two in the morning.
Now that he's escaped, the real headache is for those three people. After all, it was a robbery, and there were witnesses (the two porters must have woken up), so those three are definitely going to run now.
Yan Hui thought about it carefully. At least one of these people's motorcycles had a license plate, so he decided to go back and check the motorcycle's license plate number so that calling the police would be helpful.
He slowly made his way back and saw the three men pushing their cart away in a disheveled state.
It's about a kilometer from the forest farm to the highway. Once on the highway, although there's snow, the motorcycle is barely rideable. That one kilometer is the hardest part.
Yan Hui bent down and slowly approached, but he couldn't make out the motorcycle's license plate. He could only hear the three men panting and cursing.
"What a bunch of useless trash! Three people can't even catch a little monkey!" The leader was furious.
"Who knew he only had a few dozen yuan in his bag? He's so poor! Damn it! I thought he was rich!"
"Bullshit! His money is definitely on him! What's there to rob with that shabby bag? What did you say before you came out? Everyone who comes to the forest farm is a boss!" The person who spoke was the one who held a knife to Yan Hui's throat, and he was now quite exasperated.
"Brother Meng, where are we going later? Back to the village?" someone asked.
Meng Ge was quite tired from driving the cart, so he stopped to catch his breath. "Our village is 40 li away from here. How are we going to get back in this heavy snow? I'm thinking, this kid has nowhere to run! He must have gone to the train station area! Let's go look for him there!"
"Aren't there workers over there?"
"What are you afraid of! This kid doesn't even have a knife in his bag. Now we each have a knife, what can the railway authorities say? If they dare to utter a sound, we'll rob them too!" Meng Ge pushed the cart hard, his foot slipped, and he almost fell to the ground again.
Both of these three people had old Jialing 70 motorcycles. The advantage was that the motorcycles were indeed not heavy, otherwise they would have been really difficult to push in the snow.
Two people walked side by side, one driving a motorcycle, and the other pushing two vehicles from behind, the three of them struggling to move forward.
The road was lined with tall trees, providing Yan Hui with plenty of cover, so he didn't have to worry about being discovered by the three men.
It's okay if he gets discovered; those three can't catch him.
"That's true! Anyway, the police station is more than 20 miles away from here, so there's no way this kid has a phone! I haven't seen him pick it up all night."
“There’s definitely no phone call,” Meng Ge said, panting. “We’re not in a hurry. He can get to the railway faster than us. There’s nowhere else around here he can go! Once we get there, we have to be careful, take it slow, and not rush! We can’t let him get away again this time!”
Under the moonlight, no matter how close Yan Hui got, he couldn't make out the license plate number. He knew he couldn't follow any further. At that moment, he was also glad he hadn't gone to the train station.
He did want to go to the train station, but he felt uneasy, so he chose to come back.
Thinking of this, Yan Hui stopped following these people and turned around to sneak back to the forest farm.
When Yan Hui arrived at his residence, he saw his bag.
The few dozen yuan and a knife inside had been taken, and the rest of the items were scattered on the ground. He quickly picked them up. Only then did Yan Hui realize that his company seal was also in the bag—thankfully, it hadn't been stolen! Losing it would have been a huge problem!
While we were packing, the door opened, and a mover poked his head out: "Come in quickly, come in quickly, I'll lock the door! Everything will be fine by tomorrow morning!"
"Are you two alright?" Yan Hui felt much more at ease after hearing the porter's voice.
"We're alright. They had knives just now, so we were too scared to go near them. It's good that you're alright. Don't stay outside. We don't know where they went!"
“I know where he is. He’s pushed his motorcycle 500 meters away and was planning to go to the train station to find me,” Yan Hui said to the porter. “Brother, where is the phone number for our forest farm? I need to call the police.”
"Really gone?" Only then did the man dare to go outside. He looked around and saw the motorcycle tracks leading into the distance. He felt relieved. "Let's go find the manager." "Okay."
The two porters inside came out, took Yan Hui with them, and walked more than 100 meters until they reached the vicinity of the farm manager's residence, where they gently knocked on the door.
After knocking for more than half a minute, there was a response from inside the house.
"It's me, Lao Zhang! Manager, we need something! Don't turn on the lights yet, just come over!" the porter whispered, words Yan Hui had taught him.
The three people pushed the cart out, making a lot of noise. A little noise was fine, but turning on the lights was definitely not an option.
"Can't we turn on the lights?" The deputy manager had already reached the light switch. Hearing this, he didn't turn on the lights, but instead approached the door without opening it directly. "What is it?"
"Our place has been robbed, but the thief has already left. We need to call the police right away."
"We've been robbed?" Upon hearing this, the deputy manager dared not open the door directly. He took a few steps to the side, carefully looked outside, and only after confirming that it was Yan Hui and his two men did he open the door and have a detailed conversation with them.
After hearing Yan Hui's words, the deputy director immediately took out his phone and called the police. When the police heard that the three men had gone to the train station with knives, they asked a few more questions and then hung up the phone, preparing to call for reinforcements.
"Alright, go back inside and lock the door." The deputy director glanced behind him. "We can talk about it tomorrow."
"Manager, are you safe here alone?" asked Old Zhang, a porter. "Would you like to come with us and stay the night?"
"There's a telephone in this room, or," the deputy manager thought for a moment, "why don't you make do here for a while?"
“Okay, then let’s go get the mattresses.” Old Zhang nodded.
Yan Hui went with them to move the mattresses, then came back, made a makeshift bed on the floor, but couldn't fall asleep.
Not only could he not sleep, but the three of them couldn't sleep either.
In a daze, it wasn't until more than two hours later that the police arrived, and the deputy manager quickly turned on the lights.
"Who was robbed?" The policeman stamped the snow off his feet after entering the house. It seemed the arrests were all complete.
“Me.” Yan Hui took a step forward.
"How much money was stolen from you?" The police officer didn't know that the knife also belonged to Yan Hui.
“45.4 yuan,” Yan Hui said.
"I remember it quite clearly," the policeman nodded. "When they robbed you, was there anyone else in the house besides you?"
These words put Yan Hui in a difficult position. He had come here seeking cooperation and didn't want to cause trouble for the forest farm. Should he speak or remain silent?
"Yes or no?" the police officer asked again.
Seeing that the two porters remained silent, Yan Hui had no choice but to tell the truth.
He had been to the police station before and knew that the police would definitely question the robbers. Those people wouldn't lie about such trivial details and would definitely say that there were two movers in the house.
In this situation, Yan Hui's attempt to avoid causing trouble for the forest farm will only create even bigger problems. The police will then criticize him for not telling the truth.
"Alright, the three of you come with me." The policeman pointed at Yan Hui and the two porters.
The mover was somewhat reluctant, but he didn't say anything and followed the police out the door.
