Chapter 259 Olive Branch

After watching Davis leave, Eswin sat on the sofa, looked at the documents on the coffee table, picked them up again, and read them through once more.

As Eswin read on, he unconsciously recalled the case report handed to him by Ernst Anthony, the chief of the police department, and a strange sense of unease stirred within him.

This kid was able to spot something amiss during a single irregular inspection, picking at the scabs to uncover the serial killer who murdered entire families.

This talent seems more suited to the detective department, and given how many people he's already killed at West Canyon Police Department, the number would probably double if he were in the Counterterrorism and Special Operations Bureau.

The reputation of a serial killer isn't exactly flattering.

"This kid's bad luck, combined with his talent, seems tailor-made for Annie, who is just starting out. It's exactly what she needs."

What Annie needs most right now is to take on more cases with solid evidence so that she can ride the wave of success and climb the ranks at breakneck speed.

Thinking of this, Esven hesitated. The image of Annie's loss of appetite after resigning and returning flashed through his mind, and Esven couldn't help but gasp.

"A match made in heaven? Isn't this just like lambs to the slaughter?"

Aiswin's expression immediately became uncertain.

-

Robert kept a straight face while taking notes, occasionally glancing at Eric, before finally turning off the recorder.

"Officer Stevens, thank you for your hard work. This concludes the initial questioning. More detailed formal questioning may follow. Please keep your communication channels open."

Eric nodded and watched Robert leave, feeling a little embarrassed.

Robert's numb expression told him everything.

He wasted almost two or three hours of Robert's time again.

This is just today; if you add up all the previous reviews, the accumulated time is quite considerable.

But who can blame them when the United States insists on procedural justice in everything?

Whether you have any questions or not, you have to go through it.

There's nothing he can do about it; if he could, he wouldn't want to be investigated every time.

Eric glanced at his watch; it was already nine o'clock in the evening.

“For the sake of legality, it really is…” Eric shook his head, wanting to check the system panel, but the sound of footsteps in his ear made him stop.

The door was opened again.

Daves' tired, dark face revealed that he had been really busy today.

"Come with me."

Eric coughed lightly, got up, and followed.

-

As the two walked down the quiet corridor, Eric couldn't help but ask.

"Is everything settled, sir?"

Daves rubbed his temples, looking somewhat tired.

"Well, the police department said they have no objections regardless of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' investigation results. In a way, you helped them out; otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable."

Eric said, "That's it?"

Daves glanced back at Eric, somewhat admitting defeat.

“You did a great job, leaving one survivor. They also solved a major case because of this, and there will be some reward money coming down, so they will share some with you. Are you satisfied with this result?”

Eric laughed and said, "That's good. As long as there's some feedback, then my efforts haven't been in vain."

He not only made money but also gained important attribute points, so his job wasn't in vain.

Daves shook his head helplessly and led Eric into his office.

“In addition, you’ll get three days off.” Daves walked behind his desk and brought up the documents that needed Eric’s signature. Only three days? Eric was a little surprised, but he could understand.

If he were to be released month by month, the actual time he would spend working would be pitifully short.

It's like making money while lying down.

Seeing Eric pick up the pen to sign, Daves hesitated for a moment before speaking.

Have you tried any of the mold removal methods I mentioned before?

This guy just came back to work for the first time and is already on vacation again.

This level of strangeness is beyond comprehension.

Within the West Canyon Police Department, Eric has begun to be likened to the Grim Reaper walking among men!

It means: Death is always with him.

This made it very difficult for him to find Eric a partner, even though he tried to persuade Eric himself, it was all in vain.

This is not a good sign.

He liked Eric very much and didn't want Eric to be affected by this.

Because he discovered that Eric's previous investigations were mostly passive, meaning the incidents were all waiting for Eric to fall into them.

It's like, why did this kind of thing have to happen to Eric?

Otherwise, Eric would not have been able to pass the rigorous vetting process so easily after killing so many people.

"Uh, I forgot," Eric said awkwardly. He had been busy dealing with the children of Zhizhimin since he got back, and he really didn't have time to think about this.

Seeing that Daves's eyes were starting to look strange, Eric quickly said, "We'll definitely give it a try when we get back this time."

Daves nodded in satisfaction, took the signed document from Eric, and tentatively asked...

"Would you be interested in taking the Police Officer III+1 assessment during your vacation? I believe that with your level, these assessments will not be difficult."

Eric's heart skipped a beat. He looked at Daves, knowing that the other man would never say something like that so casually.

"Do you really want to be a police officer for the rest of your life?" Daves asked seriously.

Eric was silent for a moment and then shook his head. His purpose in becoming a police officer was actually more to increase the probability of triggering missions by increasing the number of police reports.

It doesn't mean that you'll be a patrolman for life.

Daves nodded and said, "It's not that Will and his colleagues don't want to climb the ranks, but their years as patrol officers have made their feelings for the streets deeply ingrained."

Unlike them, you are young and quick-witted. In just two years, you have accumulated the experience and skills that an ordinary patrol officer would take a lifetime to achieve. You have performed exceptionally well and have an excellent performance evaluation record.

Hearing this, Eric said, "Sir, after all this build-up, what do you want to say to me?"

Upon hearing this, Daves sighed, "Haven't you noticed that you've recently started to make a name for yourself in the detective agency and the counterterrorism and special operations department?"

Eric raised an eyebrow, thinking about it and it seemed to be true. In the past, he was only known in the West Canyon Police Department, and at most, he was only known among the patrol officers.

Now it seems like I'm slowly starting to get in touch with people from the Detective Agency and the Counter-Terrorism and Special Operations Bureau.

Eric asked, "Sir, what do you mean?"

Daves said, "They've all offered you a position, and if you're willing, you can skip the tedious qualification exams and competition and take up the post."

After all, you were already on the internal recommendation list, but you were removed because of the violation.

"This time there's another opportunity, so Inspector Grey asked me to ask for your opinion."

At this point, Daves paused for a moment: "Originally, Commissioner Grey would have preferred to keep you at the West Canyon Police Department, but she was also worried about the impact on your future."
She said that whatever your choice, the West Canyon Police Department will always respect and support your opinion.

"Go back and think it over carefully. There's no need to rush to give an answer; there's still time."
