Chapter 3 Little Lucky Star

“My daughter Jiaojiao is so well-behaved. She never cries or fusses. She eats rice porridge, goat milk, and fish soup without being picky. She even knows to whimper when she poops or peees.”

The Yun family boys proudly boasted, "My little sister is very well-behaved when she eats, and she always smiles at us. She loves us so much."

"My younger sister is the prettiest and most well-behaved girl in our village."

That's something... really hard to refute.

Look at Xiaoyunjiao's face. Even though she's still a baby, she's so pretty.

Those big eyes, and I've never seen any other child with eyelashes as thick and curly as Yun Jiao's. Her hair was also thick, and her arms and legs were really chubby.

Yun Jiao, who was being praised, smiled in return.

Soft and sweet.

Aside from being a bit domineering when eating, Yun Jiao is very well-behaved at other times, and her smile is absolutely heart-melting.

Shen Yunlian and the Yun family boys boasted to everyone they met along the way.

Later, while they were out beachcombing, the women got together and the conversation turned to Yun Jiao.

"I've never seen such a beautiful doll in all my years of life. No wonder the Yunlin family wanted to adopt her."

Someone rolled their eyes: "No matter how pretty she is, she's not your own child. She's just a little girl. Once she gets married, she'll have nothing left."

Some disagreed: "I think it's fine. There are too many boys in Yunlin Hai's family. No matter how much they like boys, it's not surprising that there are so many. It's the pretty girls who are more desirable."

People who favor sons over daughters don't care about this.

"Ah..."

Shen Yunlian carried Yun Jiao on her back and, like the other women in the village, squatted on the ground digging in the sand. The sand clams or snails buried in the sand were food they would take home to eat.

Suddenly, she heard Yun Jiao, who had been quiet on her back, cry out. She quickly hugged her tightly.

"What's wrong, Jiaojiao? Are you hungry?"

"what!"

Yun Jiao tried her best to point in a certain direction with her still somewhat unruly little chubby finger, and continued to make two more "ah ah" sounds.

There's something over there.

But her eyes were fixed on the sand clam in Shen Yunlian's hand. She had never eaten such a small shellfish before and wondered if it was tasty.

Shen Yunlian smiled and tapped her little nose: "I can't give this to you."

"what!"

"Hmph, once she learns to walk, I'll definitely dig it out and taste it myself," she continued, pointing in the direction she had been pointing.

Although Shen Yunlian couldn't understand, she inexplicably followed the direction the little guy pointed.

Then, under the rocks, I saw something that looked like a snake wriggling and trying to crawl into a crevice in the rocks.

She held Yun Jiao in one arm and swiftly grabbed the creature's tail with the other.

It was so slippery; it took several tries to pull the wriggling thing out and throw it onto the beach.

Looking at that thing, Shen Yunlian felt a surge of excitement.

"It's a giant eel! It must weigh at least five or six pounds."

Finding it a bit hard to catch, Shen Yunlian quickly threw the eel onto the beach, then rushed over with the baby in one arm and stomped on the eel on the beach again.

She dared not touch it with her hands, because it bites fiercely.

Then she picked up the bucket, laid it horizontally on the ground, and kicked the eel into the bucket.

Shen Yunlian was overjoyed and couldn't help but turn her head and kiss Xiaoyunjiao's fair and tender face.

"Jiaojiao, you're such a lucky star! This sea eel can sell for several dollars!"

Yun Jiao's eyebrows curved into a smile, revealing her toothless grin.

Yun Xiaowu: "Mom, what are you doing over there? My little sister is still so small, we can't let her get in the seawater, she'll catch a cold if she gets wet."

But this seven-year-old boy is worrying about his mother's affairs.

Shen Yunlian was in a good mood at the moment and was not angry at her son's words.

"Look, our Jiaojiao is really a lucky star. If it weren't for her, we really wouldn't have been able to find this eel."

"Wow!!!"

The Yun brothers were delighted when they saw the eel.

"Come on, Mother, let's hurry and take this eel to sell, or it will die."

The group hurried towards the seafood purchasing point. The purchasing point in their village was privately run by villagers.

They also have some kinship ties with the Yun family.

It was opened by the youngest son of Grandpa Yun's cousin.

"Sister-in-law, what good stuff did you catch?"

Seeing Shen Yunlian arrive with a group of young men, the middle-aged man who was weighing goods for someone at the purchasing point stood up and greeted her with a cheerful smile.

Shen Yunlian showed him what was in the bucket.

"Awang, how much do you want for this eel?"

"Oh, you caught this while beachcombing, right? You're really lucky, sister-in-law."

Shen Yunlian smiled behind Yun Jiao's back: "Yes, it was our Jiao Jiao who discovered this giant eel."

Yunwang's gaze fell on the little girl she was carrying.

At this moment, Yun Jiao obediently lay on Yun Shen and Yun Lian's back, her big eyes rolling around curiously as she looked around. She was a small, soft, white ball, looking like a glutinous rice dumpling.

Yunwang was charmed and sounded a little envious.

"It's so beautiful, no wonder you want to keep it."

Such a beautiful child, most people wouldn't have the heart to throw him away after taking him in.

The large eel weighed a total of 6.5 jin (approximately 3.25 catties). Because the meat was delicious and relatively rare, it was more expensive than ordinary seafood, costing 1.2 yuan per jin (approximately 0.5 kg), and sold for a total of 7.8 yuan.

Besides the eels, the Yun family also found three swimming crabs weighing a total of two and a half pounds during their beachcombing trip. These crabs cost one yuan per pound, which comes to three yuan.

The rest were just some cheap clams and oysters, which they were going to take home and eat themselves.

"Ten dollars and eighty cents in total."

That's how it is with fishing; if you're unlucky, you won't get anything at all. At most, you'll just add some vegetables to your household and save on grocery expenses.

If you're lucky, like today, it's more than what an adult would earn working on a ship for a day.

Shen Yunlian held the ten yuan and eighty cents with a smile on her face. She was really lucky today, more than ten yuan. She had never made so much money before when she went beachcombing.

She greeted Yunwang, then carried Yunjiao on her back, called her sons, and headed back.

When Shen Yunlian returned home, she told her family about it, and the whole family adored Yun Jiao even more.

“Our Jiaojiao is truly a gift from the Dragon King; she is so intelligent.”

The village is called White Dragon Village because they worship the Dragon King. It is said that a long time ago, the villagers saw a white dragon riding the clouds by the sea, hence the name White Dragon Village.

Yun Jiao stared with her innocent, wide eyes, seemingly not quite understanding.

"Ah..."

You need to eat.

"Jiaojiao must be hungry. Here's some warm goat milk."

Yun Jiao sat on Grandma Yun's lap, contentedly drinking goat milk.

My gums have been a bit itchy lately, and I keep wanting to chew on something to rub them.

Then she just kept holding the spoon in her mouth.

The spoon was made of wood and polished very smooth, so there was no fear of it hurting her mouth.

Grandma Yun pinched the fleshy cheeks of her daughter and looked inside her mouth. A tiny white grain of rice was visible near her upper gum and front teeth, which looked quite cute.

“Jiaojiao has grown teeth. Boss, you can make a teething stick out of bamboo sometime.”

Teething sticks are small sticks shaped like exclamation marks, about the size of a child's finger. They are polished smooth and hung on the child's wrist with a string. During teething, babies like to put things in their mouths, and these are just the right size.

After that trip to the beach with Shen Yunlian, Yun Jiao would nag and insist on going out to the beach together every few days.

Gradually, everyone noticed that the income from beachcombing was higher each time Yun Jiao went along.

"Jiaojiao is truly our family's lucky star!"

Yun Jiao stared at the fragrant food on the table and exclaimed, but she could only look and not eat.

She puffed up her cheeks in anger, then turned her back to everyone, looking furious.

Hahaha……

Everyone was amused.
