See the Law of Deception

Chapter 86 Wang's Funeral Home

Chapter 86 Wang's Funeral Home (26)

pity.

Lu Jinzhao shook her head inwardly. Although she wasn't exactly an experienced senior, she could tell that Meng Ning was a fairly qualified person.

But she probably won't have time to grow up.

She didn't say anything more to Meng Ning. She had done what she needed to say and do. In fact, she had no interest in saying a word to her teammates from the beginning. The reason she was able to restrain herself from ruining their lives and offer a few reminders was not because she had a conscience, but because she was still Lu Jinzhao.

There were only two candles left, and she didn't think they would be enough if she was alone, so her idea was to stay with Meng Ning after returning from the morgue.

She guessed that Meng Ning wouldn't go too far, and that she would wait here for a while.

We're waiting for a conclusion, to see if she's dead or comes out alive.

After briefly outlining his plans, Lu Jinzhao lit another candle and headed towards the morgue.

She thought for a moment, then instead of heading straight to the stairwell, she stood on the first floor and pressed the elevator button.

— Buzzing

It was the sound of the elevator starting up. Lu Jinzhao couldn't hear it, but Meng Ning, who was observing from outside, couldn't hear it either, yet she saw Lu Jinzhao press the elevator button.

Meng Ning's eyes were full of confusion. She wondered, "Does Lu Jinzhao want to take the elevator?"
"She shouldn't do that."

After all, even Meng Ning, a relatively inexperienced novice, knew that such behavior was incredibly foolish.

However, Lu Jinzhao did not intend to take the elevator. She only saw that the elevator was moving upwards, and after confirming this, she decisively walked quickly towards the stairwell.

What she was doing was trying to minimize the disadvantages for herself, even if it was all in vain. At least she didn't have to worry about the elevator doors suddenly opening and something popping out when she reached the second basement level.

Lu Jinzhao walked into the stairwell holding a candle.

A chilling aura enveloped her the moment she stepped into the stairwell, and the few exposed areas of her skin were instantly covered in goosebumps from the sudden touch of this cold air.

She couldn't hear her own footsteps echoing in the stairwell, and the dim candlelight made it difficult for her to see what lay below or around the corner. Coupled with the cramped space of the stairwell, for a moment, Lu Jinzhao even felt as if she were carrying a candle and walking through a coffin.

It's not an illusion; the light produced by candles here is much weaker.

The burning speed was also faster than when walking on the road.

She has to hurry.

At least, she had to walk faster while the candle burned.

Lu Jinzhao practically ran. She didn't have time to look carefully at the stairs under her feet and could only rely on her senses to cross them step by step. Fortunately, her senses never failed her at times like this.

She swiftly traversed the seemingly long staircase, taking two steps at a time. Sweat beaded on her forehead and back, a sign that her weakened body was being pushed to its limits by its owner's continued high-intensity use of the stairs.

Lu Jinzhao knew that her current body could not support her running for a long time, especially on stairs.

But that's okay. She doesn't need to run for long periods of time. She only needs to push her body to its limits at crucial moments. Even if something goes wrong, she can recover on the train.

Lu Jinzhao's lips were pale. Even the strenuous exercise failed to bring color to her face; instead, she looked even paler. Sweat dripped down her face, and if someone saw her at that moment, they would probably think she looked like she was about to die.

Lu Jinzhao was breathing heavily. Even though she had only gone down two floors, from the first floor to the second basement level, she felt as if she had run a kilometer. Her lungs felt like they had a hole, and every breath was painful.

Lu Jinzhao realized that her body was probably being forcibly maintained by some unscientific force, but thanks to this force, she was able to continue to move by overdrawing her energy.

She had reached the second basement level. Ahead was the stairwell exit.

The flame in her hand had been flickering slightly since she went up one flight of stairs. She thought it was because she was going down the stairs, but now that she had stopped, the flame was still flickering and even more uneasy.

Without a doubt, there are ghosts ahead.

Although Lu Jinzhao was sweating, she only felt cold.

It wasn't just the cold from physical weakness, but also the cold from the surrounding air.

She was in the stairwell, but it felt like she had entered a freezer.

Even the morgue before wasn't this cold!

These thoughts flashed through Lu Jinzhao's mind in an instant. He didn't stay in place for more than a second before heading straight for the stairwell exit.

However, as soon as she took her first step, the flame of the candle in her hand began to shake violently even more!

Even though he couldn't hear anything, Lu Jinzhao could see the flickering flames and feel the wax washing down like tears.

The hot wax dripped onto her icy fingers like torture, and as she continued forward, the wax dripped even more profusely.

It made her fingers feel as if they were on fire.

She smelled the scent.

The smell of burning candles, the smell of the stairwell, and... the stench of a corpse.

The stench of a corpse?!
Lu Jinzhao's expression immediately became alert. There was indeed a smell of corpses here, but because most of the corpses were frozen in time, there was not a strong stench of corpses in the corridor.

But in that instant, Lu Jinzhao clearly smelled a strong stench of corpses!

It was as if a rotting corpse was standing nearby.

She felt a chill run down her spine, but her feet didn't falter for a moment as she walked to the door of the stairwell.

Lu Jinzhao quickly glanced towards the morgue, and then she saw the open door and a figure with its back to the door.

Emergency lights illuminated the area outside the morgue, but only a small section of the entrance was lit. However, this was enough for Lu Jinzhao to see the scene clearly.

Her hand tightened around the candle instantly, and she subconsciously focused her gaze on the ghost. Her mind went blank for a moment, then she realized that it couldn't be the ghost lurking in the darkness.

If it's not that ghost, then what is it doing there?
Am I just scaring myself?
The moment Lu Jinzhao was thinking this, a foul-smelling breeze suddenly came from the side, and then the fiercely burning candle went out.

Lu Jinzhao felt a chill run down her spine. She immediately realized that the ghost was just there to distract her!
The next second, she felt something approaching her.

Something grabbed my wrist, which was holding the candle.

In that instant, it felt as if countless drops of scalding wax were falling onto her wrists, and then onto her entire skin and internal organs.

In the pitch black, Lu Jinzhao felt himself burning.

...I was careless. I had a hypoglycemic attack at 8 o'clock and passed out in bed. I almost missed the midnight deadline.
