Chapter 87 Wang's Funeral Home

Chapter 87 Wang's Funeral Home (27)

What does it feel like to have your body burned by intense fire?
In the past, Lu Jinzhao could only guess based on her imagination, but now she is experiencing it firsthand.

Excruciating pain swept through his entire body. The burning pain from the flames was far more intense than any other kind of pain. For a few seconds, Lu Jinzhao couldn't even feel his own existence, nor could he think. All that remained in his mind was the concept of pain.

This was the first time she had ever experienced such intense pain. In that instant, the excruciating pain from the burning of her entire body, including her internal organs, caused her brain to shut down completely. Only one thought remained in her mind: I want to die.

If I were to die right now, would this pain disappear as well?
Even when she was being summoned by the ghost, her feet were ripped apart and her shoulders were pierced, but the pain she felt then was less than a tenth of what she felt now!

There were moments when she even wanted to give up, but the next moment that thought appeared, she forcibly suppressed it.

Even though there was no firelight at that moment, she saw a horrifying change in her skin, as if an invisible fire was burning her body.

Her internal organs, even her bones and flesh, were shrinking from the flames. She could hardly control her limbs. Even with her phone in her hand, controlling her fingers to press the switch became a problem.

The struggle between persistence and giving up was constant in her mind, and the pain in her body was unbearable. She could only be thankful that the ghost's attack did not kill her instantly, but rather brought with it an extreme torment, determined to make everyone who died by its hand suffer enough pain.

This killing mechanism, ironically, provides a space for survival for those with strong enough willpower.

Her fingers were spasming uncontrollably. Lu Jinzhao didn't know how long it would take for a person to be burned to death, but she figured it wouldn't be too long. She tried her best to maintain a little consciousness amidst the excruciating pain, constantly trying to control her spasming limbs to perform the actions her brain was giving her.

The excruciating pain always prevented her from concentrating on controlling her limbs, but fortunately, Lu Jinzhao already had some experience in manipulating her body while in pain. She could feel her flesh and skin constantly changing. The invisible flames almost destroyed most of her body, but before they completely burned her to death, she successfully pressed the power button on the side of her phone.

The moment the elevator lights illuminated the surroundings, Lu Jinzhao felt his body suddenly become very "light".

She had even lost the ability to distinguish between intense pain and no pain. She only felt as if her body had become very light. As for whether she was in pain or not, it took her two or three seconds to realize that the fire seemed to have subsided as the light dimmed.

The burning pain had disappeared, but the feeling of being burned had not dissipated. Lu Jinzhao wanted to leave immediately, but as soon as she moved, her body seemed to break the balance she had been struggling to maintain, and she almost uncontrollably vomited a mouthful of blood.

Upon closer inspection, the blood contained some small, fragmented pieces of internal organs.

She didn't know the extent of her physical damage; she only felt that most of her senses were out of balance. She was simply controlling her body based on past experiences, and sometimes she couldn't even feel the existence of some organs and limbs.

Fortunately, she was still able to walk, even though she should have been in the intensive care unit.

I can't run anymore.

Lu Jinzhao struggled to control his body as he walked toward the elevator.

There was nothing she could do; she realized that climbing stairs was simply too much of a strain for her now.

As for whether there will be any danger inside the elevator.
As long as the light source is still there, then it won't.

Therefore, in a confined space like an elevator, if there is sufficient lighting, it can actually be quite safe.

However, the danger lies in the fact that the light source will not always be sufficient, and once an accident occurs, escaping from such a place becomes impossible.

Lu Jinzhao, holding her phone, stepped into the elevator.

A faint stench of decay permeated the elevator car. Lu Jinzhao saw several dirty footprints inside the elevator car, one of which was a very obvious charred black color. Presumably, it was left by that ghost.

The elevator doors closed gently, and then it began to move upwards.

As she expected, no accidents occurred during the elevator's operation.

Because of the light, the ghost did not follow the elevator.

If the light source is always sufficient, it is actually quite safe to stay in a small space.

Unfortunately, they did not anticipate this before entering the platform, and therefore did not bring enough light sources to keep them burning until morning.

"If someone possessed the ability to predict the future, such a platform would be quite easy for her, wouldn't it?"

After all, the funeral home mission only requires sufficiently soundproof earplugs and earmuffs, and a light source that won't go out overnight; it's an easy, damage-free victory. Lu Jinzhao looked at her phone; the moment the elevator reached the first floor and the door opened, her phone's battery dropped by a large bar!

"As expected," she thought. "The danger lies in the two moments when the elevator doors open and close, but as long as the ghost doesn't follow us up during the ride, it's safe."

Unfortunately, staying in the elevator indefinitely is not an option.

Because ghosts press elevator buttons.

But staying in one space is better than staying in an empty place, so Lu Jinzhao's current plan is to take Meng Ning back to the duty room.

The guard room was small, with only one door for entry and exit. The ghost could not blow out her candle as easily as before; she had to force the candle to burn quickly from outside the door.

However, the most dangerous patrol mission was over, and she still had a cell phone with less than half battery left, a little over a candle, and a wooden box in her hands.

If the remaining light source were left alone, it would only last until dawn if she were extremely lucky and the ghost stopped bothering her completely.

Her body was already at its limit, and if she continued to trade with the wooden box, she probably couldn't bleed anymore. As for cutting off a limb, the flesh and blood ravaged by the ghost's attack, even just a finger, probably wouldn't satisfy this greedy ghost.

Her mental state had already reached its limit; she wasn't sure if she could hold on if she cut off a few more of her fingers.

Once you faint, you'll be completely at someone's mercy.

A jumble of thoughts flashed through her mind. After walking a short distance away from the morgue, she saw Meng Ning looking at her in surprise not far away.

The other party probably didn't expect to see her come out alive, and judging from her appearance, she seemed to have suffered quite a bit.

Blood spread in large patches from her mouth and nose onto her clothes. The skin on her exposed wrist looked as if it had been burned by fire, leaving hideous scars and large blisters. Her unsteady gait revealed that her body was probably riddled with wounds.

Meng Ning didn't speak immediately, but looked at Lu Jinzhao warily, as if asking: Are you a human or a ghost now?
Lu Jinzhao looked at her, probably knowing what she was wary of, so he picked up his phone and, instead of trying to persuade her to go down to the morgue to complete her patrol, typed:
【I'm going back to the duty room now, do you want to come with me?】

If two people are together, at least there won't be a shortage of candles for a short period of time.

Meng Ning hesitated for a moment, glanced in the direction of the morgue, then looked away, and somewhat timidly typed on her phone screen:

What happened down there?

Lu Jinzhao looked at her, a slight smile playing on his lips.

[Sister, there's no such thing as a free lunch. Why would I give you information when it's so dangerous?]

[With a candle, I'll tell you what happened.]

Meng Ning opened her eyes wide, her gaze towards Lu Jinzhao somewhat unfamiliar. She wasn't against Lu Jinzhao's actions at this moment; after all, seeing Lu Jinzhao so weak had also triggered some unpleasant thoughts in her mind.

She simply sensed that Lu Jinzhao at this moment was slightly different from before.

Even though Lu Jinzhao had always acted quite gently, Meng Ning felt a little awkward. She couldn't explain why, but she vaguely felt that she hadn't seen through her teammate.

But now, she has sensed a “truth”.

This honesty made Meng Ning feel uneasy.

A premonition swirled in her mind, prompting her to suppress the unpleasant thoughts that were swirling within her.

Although Lu Jinzhao looks extremely weak right now, who knows?

Who knows if she has a backup plan?

Doesn't she also have a supernatural item?

I'd better not make any rash moves for now.
Thinking this, Meng Ning's fingers twitched:
Can I think about it?
