Chapter 20: Finding the Mountain Bike – An Amazing Situation
"I was just guessing, just saying it offhand."

Gu Bin didn't want to waste time, so he took her hand and walked out: "You don't need to overthink it. You can know a person's face but not their heart. Taking this opportunity to expose those with bad intentions might not be a bad thing."

"hope so."

Lin Xiyu sighed helplessly, feeling very irritated.

The fleeting, romantic thoughts she harbored in the taxi were shattered by the harsh reality.

If it really was stolen by one of the neighbors, she didn't dare to imagine what Gu Bin would think.

Could it be that people believe in the saying "one is influenced by one's company," thus casting doubt on her and her family's character?

-

The police station received the report and arrived quickly. The piercing siren startled many people, and almost everyone in the alley came out, standing at their own gates, craning their necks to look in the direction of the phone booth.

Gu Bin calmed Lin Xiyu down and then spoke with the police.

Lin Xiyu stood close to them, listening intently to their conversation.

Gu Bin's analysis was rational and well-founded.

He said the thief might have come to buy noodles, or he might have wanted to make a phone call. When he saw the bicycle at the phone booth and came to the house to call for help, he was tempted and took the opportunity to steal it.

Lin Xiyu couldn't help but feel a surge of annoyance again.

She had just gone home and asked around. Her uncle was busy with the funeral arrangements for Grandpa Huang and hadn't come back yet. Her aunt went home to cook lunch, and there was indeed no one in the phone booth for a while.

The phone booth is located not far away, diagonally opposite courtyard number 9. People coming in and out of the courtyard can see it clearly.

If my aunt had been there, the thief wouldn't have had a chance to steal it, and this incident probably wouldn't have happened.

-

The police and Gu Bin shared the same idea: they should immediately begin the investigation and search for the suspect. A door-to-door search would require a large number of people, which was impossible for just two officers on duty.

A policeman called the police station for backup. Gu Bin watched him get anxious and frustrated, his voice getting louder and louder but his momentum getting weaker and weaker. He secretly guessed that things were probably not going well.

A police station has jurisdiction over a considerable area, so it's impossible to send all of its personnel there.

Although his mountain bike was quite valuable, it paled in comparison to the heinous incidents of fighting, brawling, and causing death.

As he was pondering this, the policeman hung up the phone and gave him an apologetic look.

He didn't need to ask to understand what the person meant. After a moment of silence, he picked up a public phone and dialed a familiar number.

-

Shortly after he finished making the call, a shocking scene unfolded.

The alley was filled with the wailing of sirens, and no fewer than ten police cars arrived. The police officers who got out of the cars were dressed in plainclothes, but they exuded a shrewdness and competence that was completely different from the police officers at the local police station.

This caused an uproar not only on Donghua Street, but also alarmed the residents of the two adjacent streets, Pangong Street and Lama Lane, who gathered from all directions following the sound.

"Xiao Bin, who's so blind as to steal your car?"

A young man carrying a briefcase, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, and with a rather refined appearance, mingled among a group of plainclothes police officers. After getting out of the car, he was the first to approach Gu Bin.

Secretary Li

When Gu Bin saw the person who came in, he rubbed his temples with a headache: "Didn't I just tell you to call the police station chief and ask him to pay attention? Why are you making such a big fuss?"

"This is an order personally given by the director of the municipal bureau."

Secretary Li dismissed the matter: "Tell them to be extremely diligent and catch the thief as soon as possible. We can't let the old leader think the public security is bad and bring shame to the Municipal Bureau."
