Chapter 21: Still a Secretary After Retirement?

Gu Bin frowned: "Grandpa knows?"

"necessary!"

Secretary Li stated matter-of-factly, "Otherwise, how could we have been so quick to transfer people from the criminal investigation team?"

"It wasn't you who said that."

Gu Bin was speechless: "You know their director, why bother Grandpa?"

"Uh."

Secretary Li gave an awkward laugh: "Isn't this just a coincidence? When I answered the phone, the director happened to be visiting the old leader, and he overheard it."

What is he doing at our house?

Gu Bin frowned even more: "Grandpa has already retired and has no connection with people in government departments anymore."

"Old Gu is highly respected, and even though he has retired, he still has a wide network of connections."

Secretary Li picked up the conversation smoothly, with a hint of flattery: "The current top leaders in the province were all promoted by him. Who would dare not give him some face? If the old man stomped his foot, the officialdom would tremble."

"Stop blowing it."

Gu Bin gave him a cool sidelong glance, utterly annoyed: "It was my oversight. It's just a bicycle; if it's lost, it's lost. It's really not worth the trouble and expense, or damaging Grandpa's reputation."

"Xiao Bin, this is not your fault."

Secretary Li's expression changed in the blink of an eye. She stopped flattering him and quickly offered a self-criticism: "It was my fault. I misunderstood you. Don't worry, if Old Master Gu asks, I will take full responsibility and won't make things difficult for you."

"Well, since we're here, let's do a thorough investigation. It will serve as a deterrent to those with ill intentions."

Gu Bin sighed helplessly and gave up on arguing with him: "Let them finish their investigation as soon as possible and get it over with. Whether they find it or not today, this matter ends here."

"Okay, I'll tell the captain right away."

Secretary Li gave an OK sign, then walked towards the police officer in charge with her briefcase.

"Gu Bin".

Lin Xiyu watched Secretary Li leave, and only then did she come to her senses, expressing her shock: "Who was that person? He seemed so arrogant."

"Grandpa's secretary."

Gu Bin sighed softly, rubbing his forehead. "I was the one who called him for help, but I didn't expect him to be so unreliable, causing such a commotion." "Your grandfather has a secretary even after retirement?"

Lin Xiyu was extremely surprised: "How high a position must you have been before you retired?"

"Not a high-ranking official."

Gu Bin looked away and casually replied, "He's just older and more senior."

Gu Bin smiled slyly, his mind set on teasing her again: "What do you mean by that? You don't actually think that way, do you?"

"This is none of my business. I'm going home."

Lin Xiyu's ears turned red, and she turned around and ran into her own yard.

"Ha, you heartless little thing, you won't even invite me in for a drink of water."

Gu Bin watched him run into the gate, chuckled and gave a seemingly complaining sound, but in reality, a doting look flashed in his eyes that he himself did not realize.

The criminal investigation team truly lives up to its reputation as an elite force among police officers; their crime-solving capabilities are not to be underestimated.

In less than an hour, they discovered a clue, followed the trail, and caught the suspect.

The suspect did indeed live on Donghua Street, not far from No. 9 Courtyard.

The motive was the same as Gu Bin had guessed: seeing no one at the phone booth, he came to the house to call for help, saw the bicycle, and, overcome by greed, took it home when no one was paying attention.
