Deity Investigation Report
Chapter 4 Private Investigator
Chapter 4 Private Investigator (New book seeking monthly votes and investment)
'Should the interval be zeroed out?'
Han Su pondered silently: 'That means I'll be stuck in the castle forever, and even if I escape, I'll be caught and brought back immediately?'
OK.
Now, with only half a month left before being caught and taken back, he is already living in constant fear.
If this interval were compressed again, becoming even shorter, or even becoming zero, Han Su felt that he might as well find a building to climb up and experience the feeling of flying.
"Ding, we've arrived at Midtown Library."
When Han Su walked out of the subway station, it was already seven o'clock in the evening.
Outside the subway station, neon lights were already everywhere, and a light rain had started to fall from the sky, casting a misty and damp atmosphere over everything.
He had no time to appreciate the bustling and massive cityscape. He quickly squeezed through the crowds of people leaving get off work, the laughing and playing middle school students, and the elderly scavenging for scraps. For dinner, he simply bought a bread roll from a roadside stall.
I hurried to the largest library in Qinggang City, the Central City Library. In the religious and cultural area, I only saw a long row of books that seemed to stretch endlessly.
He pulled out one of the books and patiently began to search through it.
In his mind, he still remembered some strange marks that existed in the dark castle. Every time he returned to the present, he would try to find the origin of these marks, hoping to find some clues.
Although the investigation into this kidnapping case has been extremely difficult, we are unwilling to give up easily.
Every day I think about just giving up, but I always manage to force myself to stay positive.
Keep searching, maybe we'll find a clue?
Time passed slowly, and the library was deserted. Not many people came, and the only sound on the empty bench was the sound of Han Su turning the pages.
"Student, hello..."
As Han Su was reading, a voice sounded beside him. He turned around and saw a long-haired girl holding a book.
Her face flushed slightly. She had been choosing books behind the bookshelf, and when she turned around, she saw Han Su.
Although Han Su was disfigured in this timeline, he habitually wore sunglasses when going out, which concealed the scars. From a distance, the way he intently flipped through a book was quite pleasing to the eye. After some hesitation, I picked up the book and came over to talk to him.
"I noticed you were looking through materials about the radiation era. Are you also interested in that period of history?"
"..."
"The Radiation Era?"
Han Su paused briefly before realizing that the book he was reading was an ancient religious text from a lost era before the reconstruction of the era.
This world has gone through a historical process filled with war, radiation, disease, and disaster, and then it was rebuilt, multiplied, and developed on the ruins, which is why it has such boundless prosperity today.
Using modern civilization as a reference point, those earlier, ambiguous eras are referred to as the Solar Flare Era, the Radiation Era, and the Reconstruction Era.
However, although a name has been preserved, those eras are too far removed from the present, especially since there was a severe break in civilization at that time. Language, writing, and records were severely incomplete, and many exaggerated myths and legends emerged.
Modern people who look at that historical record will feel a serious sense of distortion.
Han Su flipped through the book in his hand, neither confirming nor denying, but asked curiously, "Are you a student who took that period of history as an elective?"
Without any hesitation, he rummaged through his bag and pulled out some paper. He borrowed the girl's pen and carefully drew the mysterious symbol that was in his mind onto the paper.
He said enthusiastically, "Could you help me take a look? Do you recognize this symbol?"
The long-haired female student happily sat down, looked closely, and said, "It looks like the style of some tribes from the Radiation Era..."
"At that time, civilization had not yet been rebuilt, and people were collectively in a state of confusion and ignorance. They believed that there were gods in the world, so they designed their own totems and sacrificial rituals, hoping that their voices could be heard by the gods."
"Of course it can't be too complicated, lest the gods wouldn't understand."
"However, because it's so simple, it's easy to run into each other. It's said that many tribal wars started this way..."
Han Su asked with a look of curiosity, "Do gods really exist?"
"History that is too distant will be seriously distorted and twisted. What's more, at that time, due to disasters, wars and other events, there was a serious break in civilization, and the writing, language and historical records were severely incomplete."
The long-haired female classmate waved her hand and said, "According to those surviving religious texts, there was more than one god in the world back then..."
"Machinery, sea monsters, chaos, calamity, disease..."
"Legend has it that these gods ruled over the entire Radiation Age for thousands of years, but before the Reconstruction Age began, they were sealed away in the dust of history by the ancestors of modern civilization."
"Even now, some religious groups in certain regions still claim that these abandoned gods will return to take revenge on all of human civilization!"
"..."
Seeing that Han Su was listening intently, she became embarrassed: "I've only heard about it. These myths and legends are not necessarily true. Historical experts say that radiation was severe in that era, and humans often experienced large-scale collective hallucinations."
Han Su listened and nodded. He had actually looked up these kinds of legends before. Every time he heard them, he would become somewhat engrossed, but upon closer examination, he found them to be too fragmented.
He paused, pointed to the symbols on the paper, and looked at the female classmate with concern: "So, did you recognize them?"
The long-haired girl shook her head somewhat shyly and said, "I don't recognize her yet..." Then she turned around happily and said, "The coffee over there is pretty good, classmate, shall we go..."
Han Su had already lowered his head indifferently, and casually took off his sunglasses and put them aside. He made no attempt to hide the somewhat shocking scar on his face, and stared at the female classmate expressionlessly, which was quite frightening.
"Aren't you afraid of not being able to sleep if you drink coffee so late at night?"
"..."
The long-haired female classmate was startled when she suddenly saw the grayish-white eye on Han Su's face.
She covered her mouth slightly, stood there for a moment, and seeing that Han Su had no intention of saying anything more, she awkwardly packed her bag and left. She first sat down behind two rows of seats, and after a while, she simply quietly picked up her bag and left...
Han Su remained completely unmoved by this.
Having been kidnapped back to the past time and time again, my life has long been fragmented into unstable pieces, and all my studies, career, and even my black stockings have lost their meaning.
The only things that could help me were clues related to the dark castle and a plan to rescue the other children...
After the female classmate left, it seemed that Han Su was the only one left in the entire library area. Even though he was already dizzy from looking at the books, he still patiently searched through them.
Time passed by, and the surroundings were as quiet as if one had entered a clean tomb.
"Hello, classmate..."
Suddenly another voice rang out abruptly, and Han Su paused slightly, looking up with unusual impatience.
Somewhat surprisingly, this time it wasn't a female classmate with long hair, but a middle-aged man in a suit, wearing a black baseball cap, who looked refined but whose brows were full of shrewdness.
He looked at Han Su, bowing and smiling obsequiously, and said while extending his hand, "My surname is Chen, and I work in a detective agency..."
Han Su didn't shake his hand, but simply raised an eyebrow: "Something wrong?"
The man sat down by himself and said with a smile, "It is indeed a small matter."
"Not long ago, our firm received a commission from someone who asked me to investigate a kidnapping case from ten years ago."
"I heard that Han was the only one who escaped from that kidnapping case. I'm sure I haven't made a mistake, am I?"
Upon hearing the other person's words, Han Su immediately understood what they did. He leaned back slightly and asked, "So, how far have you gotten from your investigation?"
The man in the baseball cap paused for a moment, then smiled and said, "It's just the beginning, so I've taken the liberty of coming to pay a visit."
"I have some questions I'd like to ask you, Han. I hope I haven't bothered you too much... Please rest assured, if you provide any valuable clues, I will definitely thank you properly..."
Han Su endured it and smiled politely: "You've already bothered me."
"Besides, I've already said everything I need to say, many times. The police department has backups. With so many leads, have you investigated them?"
Upon hearing this, the man smiled and said, "Student Han, the idea of a monster kidnapping is too far-fetched and I'm afraid it won't satisfy my employer."
"I think perhaps you had something you couldn't say at the time, so you just blurted it out?"
"But now that so many years have passed, shouldn't you..."
Han Su interrupted him, saying seriously, "Are you going to get lost?"
The man paused, then asked, "Hmm?"
Han Su stood up and said, "Then I'll get out!"
He was already very irritable.
The kidnapping case ten years ago caused me a lot of trouble.
Once the police department confirmed that the victim remembered nothing, they let it go and, according to regulations, released him to live his life. However, the victims' families refused to give up.
Those who try to reason with others are just trying to recall some clues, which is still a good thing.
Many victims' families have spent large sums of money hiring private investigators or "capable" people to investigate the events of ten years ago at all costs.
Those who are truly capable, or merely pretending to be capable, often turn against themselves. They seem convinced that the police department was deceived by them, and that if they were to intervene, they could uncover the truth behind the so-called kidnapping case.
Stalking, secretly filming, harassment, installing listening devices, and in the earliest days, even attempts to kidnap and use vigilante justice.
The various tricks they used were incredibly bothersome.
Seeing Han Su packing his things so efficiently, the smile on the man in the baseball cap slowly faded away.
He didn't say anything to stop them, but simply leaned back slightly and snapped his fingers.
As Han Su was about to leave with his backpack, a muscular man wearing sunglasses walked out from behind the bookshelf and stood in front of him with his arms crossed.
Han Su turned around and saw a man in a floral shirt behind him, smoking a cigarette, grinning, and playing with a knife in his hand.
