Chapter 213 Retirement Due to Illness
The car headed northwest into Georgetown and stopped in front of the home of Chief Justice Matthew J. Darren.
In 1953, the president nominated then-Governor of California Matthew J. Daren to serve as America’s 14th Chief Justice.
The general president considered Matthew J. Daren a “safe elephant” choice and hoped that Daren could help balance the bipartisan influence on the Supreme Court.
However, the “Dallen Court” led by Matthew J. Daren was far more “judicially radical” than the general president had anticipated.
Matthew J. Darren is a radical liberal.
He advocates expanding individual rights within the framework of the rule of law and strictly constraining government power.
After becoming Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Matthew J. Daren actively promoted racial equality and anti-segregation, advocated for expanding the procedural rights of criminal defendants, and attempted to launch a judicial revolution to promote his judicial philosophy nationwide.
These two claims are completely contrary to Hoover's political views.
The latter, in particular, while strengthening procedural protections for vulnerable defendants, greatly restricts the power of law enforcement agencies.
This made their relationship extremely tense.
When Hoover spoke of Matthew J. Darren in private, he would always refer to him as a “fool” and a “dumb”.
Matthew J. Darren also privately expressed his dissatisfaction with Hoover on several occasions, believing that Hoover was a "dictator" and "should be sent to the Soviet Union." He said, "He is suited to live in the Soviet Union, not Emily."
Given their respective statuses, they maintained a relatively tacit understanding with each other.
The two have never publicly criticized each other, and they try to express their opinions on each other's fields as little as possible.
This tacit understanding has now been broken.
Judge Bezeron sat in the car for a while, then picked up his briefcase and rang the doorbell.
Matthew J. Darren, dressed in his home clothes, opened the door and was quite surprised to see Judge Bezeron.
He asked Judge Bezeron why he had come.
David Bezerlong is one of the judges that Matthew J. Daren is particularly interested in.
His ideas in many aspects coincided with his.
They also had several private conversations.
David Bezeron hesitated for a moment, then took a file folder out of his bag and handed it over.
Matthew J. Darren did not answer.
He glanced at David Bezeron, then looked back into the room.
The room was warmly lit, with the faint aroma of food wafting through the air, mingled with the laughter of children playing.
Matthew J. Darren slammed the door shut, pulled David Bezeron down the steps, and asked him seriously what had happened.
He still didn't take the file folder.
David Bezeron was silent for a few seconds before speaking in a low voice.
He came across Theodore Hoover Dixon's name while grading papers, which slightly caught his attention.
However, the defendant in this case, Henry Thompson, has already pleaded guilty, and the case can proceed directly to the sentencing stage after he pleads guilty in the plea court.
Judge Bezeron wasn't initially very concerned.
A few days later, the case file of the post office robbery was assigned to his court.
He made a few inquiries and learned that Henry Thompson recanted his confession in court and refused to plead guilty.
When Judge Bezeron first met Henry Thompson's lawyer in court, he immediately realized that something was amiss.
He knew most of the lawyers who frequented the courtroom.
But he had never met this lawyer named Tom before.
Later, Judge Bezeron found a large amount of information related to Theodore in the evidence submitted by the defendant.
This didn't seem like preparation for the defense, but rather aimed at Theodore. Judge Bezeron, after carefully analyzing the case file, saw this as an opportunity.
Hoover's protection and high regard for Theodore were evident to everyone in DC.
With Theodore in trouble, Hoover would certainly not stand idly by.
Judge Bezeron began to deliberately condone the defendant's actions during the trial.
He was already known for this, so it didn't arouse any suspicion.
He was worried that the defendant was rushed and not well prepared, so he deliberately found a reason to postpone the trial by three days.
When Theodore sat in the witness stand, Judge Bezeron gave the defense attorney the full support he could offer.
Theodore handled the situation with ease.
Judge Bezeron was extremely disappointed in the lawyer named Tom.
The subsequent series of actions by the FBI further fueled his extreme disappointment with the CIA.
He never expected the CIA to be so vulnerable to the FBI. Before the FBI even had a chance to use their full strength, the CIA was caught red-handed.
With the confrontation about to end in a resounding victory for the FBI, Judge Bezeron decided to make use of the situation.
He decided to use the death of Henry Thompson to create a narrative that the FBI under Hoover's leadership was lawless, ruthless, and willing to kill to cover up the truth.
Judge Bezeron was not saddened by Henry Thompson's death; in his view, it was an act of upholding the rule of law and confronting the lawless law enforcement hegemony represented by Hoover and the FBI.
Henry Thompson died a worthy death!
Judge Bezeron did not hide anything and explained everything he had done.
Matthew J. Darren was stunned.
He carefully examined Judge Bezeron by the bright light from under the porch.
He suspected that Judge Bezeron was insane!
Matthew J. Darren looked at the file bag that Judge Bezeron was holding.
Judge Bezeron opened the package and showed the photos inside to Matthew J. Darren.
Matthew J. Darren only looked at two of them before waving him away.
Instead of blaming Judge Bezzeron, he gently reassured him and told him not to be nervous.
He believed that the fact that Hoover sent the photos to him instead of to the newspaper indicated that there was still room for negotiation.
This should just be a warning.
Matthew J. Darren's wife called from inside the house, telling him to get ready for dinner.
Matthew J. Darren told Judge Bezeron to go home first and that they could talk about it tomorrow.
Judge Bezeron left somewhat nervously.
Opposite of the road.
A Chevrolet following Judge Bezelon stopped.
A dark camera lens peered out of the car window and frantically snapped photos of Matthew J. Darren and Judge Bezeron, quickly running out of film.
The lens was briefly retracted, and after changing the film, the camera continued to snap shots incessantly.
After taking three rolls of film, the Chevrolet followed Judge Bezzeron's car and slowly drove away from Georgetown.

Friday, September 5st.
The Washington Star published a front-page article titled "Prominent Federal Judge David Bezelon Announces Retirement for Health Reasons—A Liberal Justice Benchmark Leaves a Profound Legacy."
"Health reasons" is the most classic, irrefutable, and respectable excuse for politicians to step down.
