Chapter 214 The Hoover Moment
"...Chief Justice Matthew J. Daren of the Supreme Court issued a brief statement regarding David Bezelon's retirement:"
"Judge David Bezeron is a courageous and compassionate jurist. He holds an unwavering belief in the fairness of judicial proceedings. We thank him for his service and wish him a speedy recovery."

Judge Bezeron received notification from Matthew J. Daren.

The calm, even somewhat indifferent, official announcement from Matthew J. Darren left Judge Bezeron with mixed feelings.

He put down the newspaper, staring blankly ahead, his eyes vacant.

His assistant knocked on the door and came in with an invitation to speak from the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Judge Bezeron seemed to come back to life, hurriedly grabbed his coat, threw it on haphazardly, and rushed out.

His assistant, who was following behind, had to shout to remind him that he was still wearing a judge's robe underneath.

Judge Bezeron switched from running to brisk walking, taking off his judicial robe as he went, tossing it to his assistant, and then putting it back on.

Arriving at the car, he tidied his clothes slightly and drove to the appointment.

The meeting between Matthew J. Daren and Judge Bezeron took place in his office.

When Judge Bezeron arrived, he was discussing a case with his aides stemming from a violent clash in Mississippi.

Last year, Bruce Boynton, a Black law student, was arrested and convicted at a Greyhound bus station restaurant in Richmond, Virginia, for refusing to leave a “whites-only” area.

This case went all the way from the state court to the U.S. Supreme Court.

When Theodore and Bernie first arrived in DC, the Supreme Court ruled 7-2 that racial segregation at interstate bus terminals violated the Interstate Business Act.

In April of this year, a large number of liberals organized themselves and, based on this case, launched a cross-state trip to expose the Southern states' refusal to comply with the ruling.

Participants deliberately entered the quarantine facility and were violently arrested.

This directly led to a large number of cases being appealed to the Supreme Court, causing quite a stir.

Matthew J. Darren is very interested in the movement and actively participates in it, providing support.

He used his influence to push for verdicts in almost every case related to the movement.

“What you ‘tried’ to do almost sparked a war between the judicial and law enforcement branches.”

He tilted his head back, staring intently at Judge Bezeron, his voice rising slightly:

“You tried to take advantage of the CIA idiots’ conspiracy, but ended up putting your career and ours at risk.”

"Your actions are not courageous, they are reckless."

After a pause, Matthew J. Darren continued:
"Now, because of you, we have to accept a fact: that person..."

He pointed out the window:
"...he has photos of a meeting between a federal judge and the chief justice, and he will never delete them."

Judge Bezeron stared in astonishment.

He quickly recalled the night he received the photos and lowered his head:

"I'm so sorry..."

Matthew J. Darren's gaze hardened: "Sorry, it's no use."

"What you need to do now is disappear."

"Go back home and recover from your 'illness'."

"Refuse all interviews and sever all close ties with journalists and legal commentators."

"Your name is best left in academic citations of your past rulings, not in the news. Do you understand?"

Judge Bezeron nodded with difficulty: "I understand."

Matthew J. Darren's tone softened:

"Your ideas and past contributions will not be forgotten."

"But the greatest contribution you can make to this country and the justice system right now is to remain silent and let this matter pass completely."

He stood up, went to Judge Bezeron, and patted him on the shoulder:

"This conversation between us never happened."

"Goodbye, Judge Bezeron."

Judge Bezeron nodded, left the courthouse in a daze, got into his car, and his mind was filled with his conversation with Matthew J. Darren.

By the time she came to her senses, the car had already reached the banks of the Potomac River.

He gazed at the shimmering river and reflected on his career.

The defendants sincerely repented, and the victims felt relieved after choosing to let go, expressing their gratitude to him.

This relieved him.

He felt like a warrior in a fairy tale, except that the warrior ultimately defeated the monster, while he was defeated by the monster.

She was terrified and had no choice but to forgive the defendant, as David Bezeron had instructed.

Even the deeply moving letter of forgiveness that she read aloud in court was given to her by David Bezeron's assistant.
