Chapter 50 Employee No. 1
Chapter 50 Employee No. 1
It's Saturday.
This was the day Chen Zhou's family invited his junior sister to have dinner together.
The three split up: Chen Zhou was in charge of shopping at the market, while the mother and daughter went to pick up Zhao Yilin.
Around 10 o'clock, Ms. Lin returned with her two daughters.
They were carrying something in their hands.
"Yilin insisted on bringing it, look."
"Junior Sister, you're too kind!"
Zhao Yilin chuckled, "It's my first time here, so I'm a little embarrassed. I'll come empty-handed next time."
Chen Zhou smiled and welcomed her into his home.
It seems that the two girls, one big and one small, are having a good time.
However, Zhao Yilin calls Chen Zhou "senior brother," while Chen Taotao calls her "sister."
The family hierarchy is a complete mess.
Ms. Lin thought it was fine; in her social interactions, it was appropriate to call a woman younger than her mother "elder sister."
Call it whatever you want.
Chen Zhou prepared lunch today—
Braised pork belly and braised eggplant. These are my two specialty dishes. With improved cooking skills, I can make them even more easily.
Winter melon meatball soup. If you can make steamed buns, making meatballs is almost a natural progression. Just add flour and egg liquid to the filling, and the meat filling will become more sticky. Scoop it out with a small spoon and drop it into the water, and you'll have meatballs.
We got some seafood. In coastal areas, there's an old saying: "Borrowing money to eat seafood isn't considered being stingy." A family dinner always has to include some.
Seasonal vegetable salads and condiments bought from the market. Ms. Lin exercised her own choice.
Chen Zhou and his wife were busy in the kitchen when, after a while, two young girls came in and offered to help.
It's not appropriate to have guests running around doing chores in your home.
But the junior sister was simply unstoppable. There was no other way but to let her go.
However, Zhao Yilin was quick and efficient, and also very observant.
I sat on a small stool and started peeling eggplant.
Chen Taotao was very sensible, but she couldn't help much. She could only squat next to her and wait for the occasional piece or two to fall to the ground.
The four of them chatted and laughed in the kitchen, making it quite lively.
As she got up to hand over the eggplant, Zhao Yilin inadvertently saw the tea eggs that had been braised the day before.
"I was wondering why there was a nice smell in the room! Turns out it was this."
Chen Zhou asked, "Would you like to try some? We'll have a good meal for lunch."
The junior sister chuckled, "If you want to try it, it won't take long."
Chen Zhou then gave her one.
The junior sister wasn't pretentious at all; she peeled the eggshell while casually licking her fingers. The dark brown broth was quite flavorful.
It's savory and delicious, very good.
She thought to herself that the tea eggs she made would definitely taste delicious.
So, full of anticipation, I tried it.
The tea eggs did not disappoint her.
The first bite was all egg white, but it was so smooth and tender that it practically slid all the way into my mouth.
After being chewed up by the teeth, it turns into small, bouncy particles.
Because it spends the most time in the braising liquid, the flavor becomes richer.
The aroma of the ingredients is distinct, with a faint, almost imperceptible tea fragrance.
The second bite is with the yolk.
At this point, the fine sand envelops the chewy texture of the egg white, creating a very rich flavor.
This bite adds the rich aroma of the egg itself.
A multitude of flavors, layer upon layer. This is the most perfect tea egg.
After trying it, the junior sister gave Chen Zhou a thumbs up:
"Senior brother, your tea eggs are better than the ones sold outside. I'd eat them all for lunch." Chen Zhou laughed and said, "You should have said so earlier, then I wouldn't have prepared so many dishes."
“Not at all,” the junior sister quickly waved her hand, then turned to look at another girl, “However, I’m really a little envious of Tao Tao.”
In just a few words, Sister Zhao coaxed the little girl into having a great time, and she shook her head, wanting one for herself too.
Zhao Yilin had already peeled it for her.
"Wash your hands first."
"Good~"
Ms. Lin looked at the two girls helplessly and said, "You won't be hungry by the time we eat later."
Once all the food was served, the junior sister seemed quite interested in the beer. After Chen Zhou poured her a glass, she wanted to have some too.
Then she looked at Ms. Lin:
"Sister-in-law, do you want some? I can take a taxi myself, no need to trouble you to take me. I want to relax this weekend."
Ms. Lin was indeed not good at drinking and politely declined.
Chen Taotao, however, joined in the fun and took a small bite.
He said, "It doesn't taste good!" and gave it back to his father.
The junior sister was naturally outgoing, and after a few sips of beer, she became even more enthusiastic.
While eating, they chatted incessantly about the changes in the three of them during their university years, and also talked about the interesting things that happened at the company after Chen Zhou left.
Seeing that the time was right, Chen Zhou asked directly:
“Didn’t you say before that you were going to come here and sell steamed buns with me? I’m currently short of a waiter in my shop.”
The junior sister hasn't expressed her opinion yet.
Ms. Lin first elbowed Chen Zhou under the table.
"At least Yilin graduated from university."
My wife has no information. From her perspective, there's no problem. Each generation has its own style of traditional long gowns.
Chen Zhou was different. At first, he also thought his junior sister was joking, but according to the intelligence, she was a potential employee.
After observing him today, I realize he's actually quite suitable to be a waiter/waitress.
She's observant and has a good personality.
The junior sister had different concerns, and she looked at Chen Zhou and his wife across from her:
"I'd like to ask, how many meals does the waiter provide?"
Two meals!
Chen Zhou smiled and continued:
"We come in the morning, eat breakfast, and then get back to work. Once we're done with business, we eat breakfast again and then go home."
Ms. Lin quite liked Zhao Yilin, and was surprised that she was actually interested in working as a waitress, so she added:
"You're welcome to come over for dinner anytime tonight."
The junior sister stopped eating the meatball she was about to put in her mouth and scratched her head.
"Besides eating, I need to do something else, right?"
"You'll be responsible for taking customer orders, clearing tableware, washing dishes, and cleaning."
“It’s just the usual work of a waiter. You, Brother Chen, will still be in charge of making the steamed buns,” Ms. Lin said, looking at Chen Zhou. “You can talk about the compensation.”
My wife's elbow seems to have started to bend outwards ever since she poked me.
Chen Zhou said to his junior sister:
“The previous aunt paid the waiter 4000 yuan early, so I’ll start with that price. We’ll see how the business is at the end of the month, and if there’s a surplus, we’ll share the profits.”
Ms. Lin: "I received 4,000 yuan, plus the five social insurances and one housing fund."
The restaurant provides meals, and the senior student's family is incredibly kind. Zhao Yilin was very tempted.
"From the steamed buns before to today's lunch, my senior's cooking skills are truly excellent; the food at the shop must be great. My senior sister means more than just two meals a day; she might even come back for a free meal sometime, hehe. This salary is much better than the 2500 yuan at the design institute. If it weren't for some pocket money from my family, I'd be starving."
The junior sister raised her glass:
"I'll resign right away!"
It's possible that the junior colleague will have to handle the resignation process herself.
During the meal, Chen Taotao stopped joining in and ate her rice by herself.
The adults then started talking about opening a shop.
My junior colleague's professional skills were not wasted; she offered many useful suggestions from the perspectives of accounting and human resources.
