Doomsday America

Chapter 22 A Kid Worrying About Big Things

Chapter 22 A Kid Worrying About Big Things

Meanwhile, on the roof of the RV.

Gavin, with his 8x scope, silently gazed at the road in the distance and the town of Palmer further away.

At this moment, they stopped in the western part of the farm ruins, with enough space on all sides for a car to accelerate and shake off the zombies, and not too far from the lake.

As for the highway, it's at least two kilometers away, and the Palmer resort is even further, about three kilometers away.

After confirming that there were no signs of zombie activity in the open area, Gavin put down his 8x scope and jumped out of the RV.

As soon as he landed, Eugene leaned against Old Ford and asked a question.

"Hey, big star, can we hide in this godforsaken place for a while?"

"The environment is much better than I expected; at least it's not a problem to have breakfast here."

As Gavin agreed, Madison and Winnie got out of the RV.

Seeing Gavin not far away, Winnie jogged a few steps to Gavin and stared at the 8x scope in Gavin's hand.

"Boss, we have binoculars in the car. I'll have my mom bring them to you in a bit."

"What?" Gavin was taken aback.

“I mean my dad has a telescope, but he doesn’t need it now anyway.”

"No, I'm asking what the hell the boss is?"

Gavin chuckled and patted Winnie on the head, while Winnie turned and nodded towards Madison.

Seeing this, Madison grinned and said.

“I taught her, Gavin. Anyway, I only recognize you as my boss.”

"You beat me to a pulp four years ago, buddy. I'll never forget how you lifted up a big guy like me and threw me down the hill the first time I was late for practice."

"Besides, I never lost when you were the boss, whether it was in the Super Bowl or in front of zombies."

"If you don't become the boss, then who am I supposed to listen to? That damn redhead? I'm afraid I might not be able to resist getting up in the middle of the night and killing him!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Madison glared at Eugene with a warning look, while Eugene grinned and raised his middle finger, waving it at Madison.

As for Gavin...

He casually tossed the 8x scope at Eugene.

As Gavin interrupted Eugene's gesture of giving the middle finger, he nodded to Winnie and smiled.

"I do prefer telescopes."

"Okay, boss!"

Winnie was immediately relieved and went back to the RV to talk to her mother about the telescope.

Seeing Winnie run off into the distance, Gavin couldn't help but ask Madison.

"Is her mother awake?"

"She's awake. She's been awake for a while now. She was crying really loudly at first, but thankfully she didn't cry for long."

Madison agreed, while Gavin looked amusedly at the passenger seat of Old Ford, pointed at William, and said to Eugene.

"The kid's mom's already awake, why's this kid still unconscious? Is he even less capable than a woman?"

"Tch, he's just a kid."

Eugene laughed.

"Don't be fooled by his big frame and strong waist. He's just a kid who's done some weightlifting. He thinks he's all that just because he's built up some muscles. In reality, he's all show and no substance. His agility is probably not even as good as a cheerleader's girl."

After his scathing critique, Eugene casually opened the passenger door and grabbed William, lifting him up by the shoulder.

"Sleeping Beauty, it's time for you to wake up."

He grabbed William and shook him around for a while. William opened his eyes in a daze and then hurriedly looked around.

"Where...where's my dad?"

William asked, trembling, while Eugene threw him to the ground and replied.

"Your dad's already in hell. Do you want to go join him?"

"I...bullshit, where are we? Don't tell me you just abandoned my dad like that!"

William looked around in astonishment, then immediately stood up and loudly questioned Eugene.

"This isn't even on the road! Where are we? Did we bury my dad when we left? We should at least give him a grave!"

"Bullshit, William! Do you want us to dig your dad's grave and then get chased into it by zombies and sleep there for the rest of our lives?!"

Eugene kept attacking William, making William's veins bulge.

"Fuck Eugene, even if you didn't have time to bury him, you should at least have left me his clothes or watch as a keepsake. Why the hell did you knock me out?!"

"Ha, I don't want to be in contact with zombie stuff for too long. Who knows if it has a virus? What, you want to settle scores with me? Come on, little cop, I'll give you a chance!"

Eugene grumbled and waved provocatively at William.

William exhaled heavily and suddenly charged toward Eugene!
Seeing that the two were about to fight, Madison curled his lip and turned to look at Gavin.

Meeting Old Mike's questioning gaze, Gavin leaned against the RV and shook his head. "Let them vent."

"Alright, I'll join in the fun too."

Madison smiled and nodded, then watched Eugene and William fight.

William is younger, and also taller and stronger than Eugene.

However, his fighting movements were too rigid, clearly from an academic background, the kind he had only recently learned at the police academy.

Eugene, on the other hand, was much more thuggish, targeting William's groin with every move.

After only a few moves, Eugene seized an opportunity and kicked William in the groin, making the young policeman clutch his groin and howl in pain.

When Winnie and her mother got out of the RV, they saw William lying on the ground groaning, while Eugene circled around him, cursing and taunting him.

This scene instantly broke Winnie's mother.

"Doris, be strong!"

Winnie's mother kept repeating it in her mind.

But her tears suddenly burst out.

They're fighting! These people are so barbaric and scary... sob sob...

Husband... Waaaaaah...

Seeing her mother start crying again, Winnie's face immediately fell.

Didn't we agree to be strong?
Mom, are you talking to the dog?

Seeing the two women get out of the car, Madison spoke to Eugene, who was still provoking William.

"Alright, Eugene, don't scare the woman!"

"Ha, you've scared the women. They'll have to adapt eventually; times have changed!"

Eugene agreed, then kicked William in the butt again, before giving Winnie's mother a cold look.

Meeting Eugene's fierce gaze, Doris clutched her chest in terror, took two steps back, and braced herself against the carriage, taking deep, fearful breaths.

"Red-haired uncle, you scared my mom!"

Winnie had no choice but to stand in front of her mother and yell fiercely at Eugene.

Doris was startled by this behavior and quickly grabbed her daughter's hand, fearing that the fierce Eugene would rush towards her.

However, Eugene calmed down considerably after seeing Winnie.

He exhaled a heavy breath, nodded with a cold smile, and said.

"This is all for your sake, kid. I have high hopes for you. You're much better than William, who's still a baby."

As he spoke, Eugene couldn't help but glare at Doris again.

"You're much better than your mom. Take good care of her; she needs to adapt to this apocalypse quickly!"

After a cold laugh, Eugene returned to the old Ford, took out the remaining half-bottle of Coke, and took a satisfying sip.

William lay on the dry grass, pounding the ground heavily, his heart breaking with grief.

His crying clearly affected Doris, causing her to sob softly along with him, both frightened and saddened.

Annoyed by the two people's crying, Winnie snatched the binoculars from her mother and presented them to Gavin as a treasure.

"Boss, binoculars~"

"Yes, thank you. You're so considerate."

Gavin took the binoculars and examined them closely; they looked good.

Winnie's family clearly enjoys a high quality of life; not only are their binoculars brand-name, but their Ford F450 RV is also quite nice.

Seeing that Gavin was satisfied, Winnie felt relieved. She then pulled her mother, who was desperately trying to suppress her sobs, in front of Gavin and introduced the two of them.

"Boss, this is my mom, Doris. She's a great cook and she can do the laundry too!"

"Mom, don't cry, come and meet our eldest son, his name is Jia..."

"Legendary quarterback Gavin King, the King of the Texas Cowboys!!!"

Before Winnie could finish her introduction, Doris exclaimed in surprise.

Upon hearing this, Madison gave Gavin a thumbs-up in admiration.

"As expected of Gavin, even a housewife of this age knows you!"

"hehe."

Gavin smiled and was about to say something when Doris suddenly burst into tears.

Doris sobbed uncontrollably as she cried.

"My husband... Waaah, my husband drove us from Houston at dawn just to go to Dallas to celebrate your Cowboys' fifth consecutive championship!"

"And then he died on the road! How could this happen, God!"
