Chapter 28 Ugly, Mad, and Insidious

Anser stood at the rear of the battlefield, occasionally throwing out a magic trick to help Zahir stabilize the defensive line, but his attention was always on Rand.

He couldn't stop grinning as he listened to the constantly popping-up battle logs.

Rand hopped along the defensive line, specifically targeting areas densely populated with monsters. He would cast one or two Dragon Breath spells and then move on to a different spot. The occasional flashes of his breath greatly reduced the pressure on the humans, boosting their morale.

The minute passed quickly; he had released at least six breaths, about once every ten seconds, which was quite efficient.

Later on, the monsters scattered when they saw him coming, which greatly reduced the results of the battle, but nearly a hundred monsters were still affected by the dragon's breath.

Anser's experience tips never stopped, though they came on and off, and were generally only a few points: the dead were all small fry, but there were plenty of them.

As soon as the battle with Rand ended, Zahir received his signal and ran out of the battlefield to Anser's side.

"Is there anything else?" Zahir asked expectantly.

“Yes!” Anser laughed and stretched out his hand to him.

"Lightning!" Zahir vividly remembered the lightning effect that Anser had just created.

"it is good."

A moment later, Zahir also leaped into the monster horde on the north side. After a brief moment of preparation, he opened his mouth and spat out a burst of lightning that electrified countless murlocs. Even the nearby combatants had their hair stand on end, their forms becoming abstract.

To avoid accidentally injuring anyone, Zahir had to venture even deeper into the floodwaters, even jumping onto the banks to act arrogantly. Monsters below level 4 were no match for him.

The other participants were happy to do so, taking advantage of the chaos to strike and kill, making the battle several times easier than before.

Seeing this, Anser tugged at Blatt: "Come on, let's retreat to the back."

Although Kou Tao the merman is stupid and crazy, he is still an intelligent race. He has noticed that many merman professionals riding giant crabs are approaching this way. If they don't leave soon, something bad will really happen.

"Huh?" Blatt wasn't satisfied and was feeling restless. "How about I get one too?"

"No, let's go."

Anser quickly retreated and soon arrived at the earthen slope where Finn was.

Blatt looked disappointed, but he stayed by his side the whole time.

“It’s too dangerous,” Anser explained.

Dragon Breath is very fast to cast, almost instantaneous, but the caster needs a guiding process. Without casting experience, it will be slow and easy to be targeted. If you are not strong enough, it is really dangerous.

Furthermore, Dragon Breath and Jump require a total of 4 mana points, and he currently only has 11 mana points left. If the mana is too low or depleted, the caster will enter a state of exhaustion, so he must reserve some mana for emergencies.

Anser observed the battlefield and found that more and more humans were gathering and joining the battle. The human side had taken control of the situation and their casualties had been greatly reduced.

'You've made a big contribution, so it's okay for you to slack off a bit.'

He still remembered the time he was the center of attention and got hit by two javelins; Blatt almost died. If he wanted to live longer, it was better to be a little more cautious.

Now he just hopes that the monsters affected by the Dragon Breath spell will die quickly, and that none of them will escape, even though that is very unrealistic.

On the battlefield, after Zahir cast his last Dragon Breath spell, he felt an extreme sense of exhilaration, giving him the illusion that his spellcasting ability had returned.

He stood on the bank of the Chongza River, turning to look for Anser, only to see the old pastor not far away pointing anxiously at the river.
"Watch out underwater!"

With a loud boom, a huge carapace-like creature leaped out of the Chongsa River, its massive pincers snapping at its body amidst the misty spray.

The incident happened suddenly. As Zahir retreated, he activated the Shield of Devotion, and a faintly glowing energy field surrounded him.

"clang--"

The giant pincers were clamped on top, firmly blocked.

Just as Zahir was about to take the opportunity to escape, a strange scepter suddenly emerged from the monster's back, struck the shield, and lightning erupted. The shield shattered, and he was blasted several meters away, crashing into the muddy water. His limbs were stiff, and he couldn't get up for a long time.

[Agile Monster, Strange Monster, Challenge Level 4]

[High Priest Kou Tao, Murloc Kou Tao, Challenge Level 6]

'High Priest?!' Anser saw it from afar, his heart skipped a beat, and he had an urge to run away.

High Priest Kou Tao is a level 6 challenger, but he is a level 10 spellcaster, making him even more troublesome than the Grey Dwarf Overseer.

The Armored Monster is also difficult to deal with. It is a large, amphibious monster that is immune to toxins and can sense magic.

The armored monster carried High Priest Kotō at breakneck speed toward Zahir, but he and Rand were too far away to provide assistance.

"call out--"

At the critical moment, a javelin whistled as it shot towards the armored monster. The armored monster reacted too slowly and had no time to dodge, so it had to swing its pincers to block.

The carapace shattered like a spiderweb, the javelin was more than halfway in, and the armored monster paused, letting out a piercing screech.

"What immense strength!" Blatt exclaimed. Anser looked into the distance and saw a burly figure on the bank of the Chongsa River, clad in a red robe with gold flames, having already thrown a second javelin. He then picked up his giant axe and launched a charge.

'It looks like someone from the Flame Fist.' He recognized the clothes.

The second javelin hit its mark again, accurately and powerfully.

During this delay, Zahir had already shaken off the paralysis and stood up. Holy light flashed across his body, and his injuries had mostly healed. He then followed the burly man and charged forward.

The armored monster brandished its enormous pincers, creating a series of muffled whistles, its imposing presence terrifying.

Zahir and his companion primarily engaged in hit-and-run tactics. The armored monster was stronger than the gray dwarf overseer, but it was slow to react and had low intelligence, making it relatively easy for elite professionals to deal with.

They were even more wary of the High Priest Kou Tao on the monster's back.

However, apart from occasionally unleashing a relatively weak lightning bolt, High Priest Kou Tao's presence was not particularly noticeable.

"He has lost his spellcasting ability!" Anser realized.

The magic network is fair to everyone; High Priest Kou Tao, aside from a few spell-like abilities, also relies on spell slots.

“Let’s go, let’s go too.” Anser picked up his staff and ran towards the riverbank. He couldn’t miss this opportunity; he might even get some experience points.

When the three of them reached the riverbank, the Armored Monster had lost one of its forelimbs; judging from the wound, it must have been the work of the Flame Fist strongman.

Anser focused his attention on him, as it would be easier to detect attributes during combat:
[Flame Fist Elite, Human, Level 8 Barbarian (Berserker)]

'So strong, no wonder he could go toe-to-toe with the armored monster.'

Even if a level 8 professional doesn't master a powerful specialization, their attributes will inevitably improve significantly.

The two clearly realized that High Priest Kou Tao was somewhat incompetent, so they cooperated and launched a fierce attack.

The Flame Fist Elite moved into the Armored Monster's blind spot, lowered its head and bent over, its body glowing red. The next moment, it charged like a bull behind the Armored Monster, its speed leaving a trail of afterimages. It raised its giant axe high, its violent rage swirling around it, and then used the momentum to bring it down.

The armored monster only had time to turn its body slightly before the giant axe slashed down, cutting deep into its abdomen close to its thigh. A large amount of blue-green liquid gushed out, and its body went limp, collapsing to the ground with a thud.

Zahir seized the opportunity to step forward and plunged his sword into the neck of the armored monster, all the way down to the hilt.

Just as Anser was about to raise his hand to deliver the finishing blow, he sensed a strange magical fluctuation emanating from High Priest Kou Tao.

"Be careful--"

He shouted, then immediately activated his magic storage ring, and three flash missiles hurtled toward High Priest Kou Tao.

The next moment, a surge of blue-purple energy emanated from the high priest, covering an area of several meters around him. The massive thunder and dark corrosive energy instantly engulfed Zahir and the other person, vaporizing the water and leaving the ground covered with dark purple or black corrosive marks.

The three magic missiles disintegrated as soon as they got close, having no effect whatsoever.

'It's over.' Anser felt a chill run through him.
