Mystery: The Last Shepherd
Chapter 14 Your Grandfather Russell
Chapter 14 Your Grandfather Russell
"Lu Ze, do you have a headache? Here's some medicine."
"It's okay, I'm fine."
Are you thirsty? Would you like some water?
"I'm not thirsty either."
Lu Ze looked at Cecilia, who was constantly concerned about him like a mother, and smiled helplessly. "Alright, Cecilia, sit down and relax. I'm fine."
He forcibly grabbed his sister's arm and pushed her onto the sofa. Even after sitting down, she wouldn't stop, constantly staring at Lu Ze.
Luze knew why Cecilia cared so much about him; according to his usual pattern, his lucid moments were almost over. Previously, Luze could only maintain a normal state for a dozen hours at most before falling into terrifying hallucinations, screaming and going mad uncontrollably. At those times, he needed Cecilia's help to lock himself in place with straps, lying motionless like a mental patient in straitjackets, to prevent injury or harm to others.
But now he feels that he shouldn't go crazy anymore.
Because the illusory ocean tide, akin to a cheat code, could shield him from the evil god's ravings, hallucinations and auditory hallucinations about the true creator naturally couldn't form in his mind. In other words, from the moment he transmigrated, Luzer Rondohr escaped his mental illness and became a normal person.
All he needs to do next is to raise his sister well and work hard to make money.
Lu Ze wasn't worried about that.
Hehe, the time traveler's three-piece set: invention, plagiarism, and the new order, activated!
Wait, what the hell is Roselle?!
Lu Ze's grand ambitions had only been brewing in his mind for a minute when related memories popped up, interrupting his delusions. It seemed that someone who appeared to be a transmigrator had already gotten there first in this world.
Russell Gustav, a prominent figure from over 170 years ago, was the great emperor of the neighboring powerful nation of Intis. He "improved" the steam engine, "invented" various items, and "created" a large number of poems, plays, and novels. Basically, any literary masterpiece that Luze knew about had already been published by him and widely distributed throughout the world.
What to do now that the time-traveling predecessor has already shown off to the fullest extent?
The key point is that Rosell isn't short of money either; his reason for plagiarism was to pick up girls. How can I, who simply wants to earn money to support my family, bear this?
Damn you, Russell!
Lu Ze felt as if he had suddenly fallen from the sky to the ground, and his expression became stiff.
"Lu Ze, are you alright?"
Cecilia immediately noticed his unusual behavior and quickly grabbed his hand, asking him with concern.
"I am fine."
Lu Ze snapped out of his reverie and patted his sister's hand. He quickly composed himself. It was alright; Rosell hadn't plagiarized every novel. As long as he did some research and chose the right subject matter, he could still achieve something, at least ensuring a comfortable life.
Just as he was lost in thought, the door to the lounge opened, and Leonard walked in carrying a tray in each hand.
"Breakfast time~"
He looked at the brother and sister, a bright smile spreading across his handsome face, and placed the plate on the table. "The captain is still busy. He has something to see you two in a bit. Please have something to eat while we wait for him."
Lu Ze looked down and saw a plate with white bread, toast, and bacon. In a recessed area on one side was a steaming cup of coffee and a small dish of butter. The white bread was soft and tempting, the bacon was perfectly fried, and the coffee was emitting a rich and aromatic scent.
He suddenly felt a void in his stomach; after a night of tossing and turning, filled with fear and anxiety, he was truly hungry. He glanced at Cecilia and noticed that his sister's Adam's apple bobbed, but she didn't reach for it; instead, she looked up at him.
"Thank you."
Luze smiled and said to Leonard, "We shouldn't have to pay for the meal, right?"
"Haha, of course, these can all be reimbursed."
Leonard seemed amused by his words and winked at Cecilia, who lowered her head warily. Seeing that he hadn't managed to amuse the little girl, he didn't seem to mind, simply shrugged, and turned to leave, saying, "Just leave it aside after you're done eating; someone will come and collect it."
Lu Ze then pulled over the tray and placed it in front of the two of them, while also taking the coffee. "Since he said so, let's eat. Be careful, the coffee is a bit hot."
"Lu Ze, you can eat it all, I'm not hungry."
"Okay, okay, hurry up and eat."
Urged on by him, Cecilia carefully picked up a piece of white bread, examined it for a few seconds, and then put it in her mouth. After just one small bite, her eyes lit up.
"It'll taste even better with some butter," Lu Ze said with a smile. Indeed, even when their parents were alive and the family was at its best, they could only eat white bread a few times during holidays, let alone the years of struggling to survive that followed.
After settling Cecilia in, Luze lowered his head and began to eat, dipping white bread in butter, sandwiching bacon in toast, and occasionally sipping coffee. As a transmigrator accustomed to fine food, he felt this meal was merely average. Moreover, he didn't actually like coffee, finding it too oily, and he finished it all simply because he was hungry.
By the time he finished the last bite of bread with his coffee, Cecilia across from him had already finished her breakfast. She let out a soft burp, looking a little embarrassed.
Lu Ze smiled at her, stacked the two plates to one side, and then leaned back in his chair to rest.
Cecilia was only embarrassed for a moment before she began to worry about the future.
"Brother, when do you think they'll let us go?"
"The captain will tell us when he arrives."
"Siris is dead, it should be alright, right?"
My sister hid in the lounge last night and doesn't know yet that Lu Ze killed a second person.
"Self-defense, self-defense."
After finishing their meal, the two siblings were chatting idly when Dunn Smith knocked on the door and came in.
"I'm so sorry to have kept you both so long." He apologized politely. "There was a mole in the police station last night, which caused us to be delayed in making arrests and interrogating people."
"That's alright. I'd like to ask, what were the results of the interrogation?"
Lu Zedao.
“Yes, we contacted the ‘Punisher’ and ‘Mechanical Heart’ in Tingen City and, following the leads, launched a full-scale manhunt for the Aurora Society,” Dunn said. “In conclusion, the Aurora Society’s influence in Tingen has now been wiped out.”
Lu Ze's heart skipped a beat.
"That is to say."
"The matter can be considered closed."
Dunn knew what he wanted to say.
Hearing his certainty, Lu Ze felt a moment of relief, but then his heart tightened again. The next step was to discuss how to handle his own situation. Cecilia was also nervous, like a frightened kitten.
In the quiet atmosphere, Dunn's gray eyes lingered on him for a moment before he said, "Mr. Luzer and Ms. Cecilia, you now have two choices."
Are there other options?
Lu Ze thought to himself.
"For survivors like you, especially those involved with evil gods, it is generally recommended that you sever all social ties, change your names, and move to another city to start a new life, with our organization providing protection. In particular, Mr. Luze, you have unexpectedly become an extraordinary person with dangerous pathways, so the supervision of you may be even stricter."
How strict is it?
Lu Ze asked instinctively.
Dunn simply looked at him without answering, yet it was as if he had already answered.
Depend on.
Lu Ze thought to himself, licking his lips, waiting for Dunn to offer a second option.
Seeing his composure, Dunn Smith smiled slightly and said solemnly, "As for the second option, it is my personal recommendation. That is, join us and become a Night Watcher."
".ah?"
Lu Ze was stunned.
