Mystery: The Last Shepherd

Chapter 309 Susie's Nightmare

Chapter 309 Susie's Nightmare

"Mr. Reeves, didn't you understand what I meant?!"

Constance Lilson was unaware that he was on the verge of death. His neck was only centimeters away from Luzer's right hand, yet he was still urging his captain to take action, "I've made myself very clear, something's wrong with this neighborhood!"

"so what?"

Reeve looked at him calmly.

"So we can conduct reconnaissance here and look for clues."

"Conce Rilson, you're in your twenties now, aren't you? Have you had enough of living and don't plan to inherit your father's title?"

Reeve interrupted him rudely.

"Forehead"

Cons was taken aback, as the other person's words were so blunt and harsh that he was momentarily speechless. He saw Levi slam his notebook shut, turn around, and walk out, apparently preparing to leave.

"Mr. Reeves!"

He couldn't help but chase after him, "Do you think it's too dangerous to investigate here?"

“It’s not dangerous, it just means our names will be honorably listed on the pension register.” Reeves glanced at him sideways. “Have you forgotten how Horace and the others died?”

"So you're going to pretend you didn't notice anything?"

Cons said with slight dissatisfaction.

"Yes."

Reeve answered frankly, seemingly without any sense of shame.

"What if I bypass you and report directly to the major?"

Constance said provocatively.

Ok?
Lu Ze raised his hand again.

“That’s against the rules, and the major will ask me to confirm it again. But I can just make up some excuse, like ‘he’s a new guy and he’s too sensitive’ or something like that, and the major will just believe me.”

Levi wasn't angered by him, but shook his head and said, "Don't forget, the most important thing in the Ninth Division is the strict hierarchical rules between superiors and subordinates."

Constance certainly hadn't forgotten, because it was directly related to their performance.

"Then can we not investigate, but just share the information with the members of our group?"

"No, I don't want to help those arrogant guys in Group A."

"."

Upon hearing that the other party had blocked all the roads, Constance was first angry, then confused, and finally became contemptuous.

"I didn't expect you to be this kind of person."

He said softly, "So enamored with their own lives, completely disregarding their responsibilities."

"A sense of responsibility?"

Levi scoffed, a mocking glint in his dejected eyes. "Of course I have the means. Dying to kill cultists or protect citizens is one thing, but losing my life for some unspeakable secret of my superiors would be a terrible waste."

"What unspeakable secret do you know?"

"I told you, I don't know."

Levi said calmly, "However, I think what the Blood Cultivator did at Kapin's place before was very much to my liking."

"."

A moment of silence fell between the two. Reeves' words had dampened Cons's earlier enthusiasm. Firstly, he knew that as a newcomer, he wouldn't gain the trust of the team leader unless the leader agreed; secondly, the dejected leader seemed to know something and didn't want to get too involved.

".I see."

After what seemed like a psychological struggle, Cons finally lowered his head and said helplessly.

He had no idea that his action had actually saved both of their lives.

Luze withdrew his hand and instead patted Luna's body.

Since the two men seemed to have nothing to do with the case behind Kapin and had no intention of continuing the investigation, he let them go.

This is a crucial moment for him. If he were forced to silence them, it might attract the attention of MI9. It would be best to let them give up voluntarily rather than kill them.

Of course, he didn't completely trust the two of them, and continued to follow them in his "psychological stealth" state until they arrived at the hidden office of MI9.

Worried that there might be surveillance equipment inside the office, Lu Ze held the cat and waited quietly outside. Another thirty minutes passed, and seeing that nothing unusual had happened, he finally felt relieved.

Just then, the young man named Constance Lilson walked out of the office. He had changed out of his East Side worker's clothes and into a well-tailored, high-class uniform. Although he was dressed very well, he looked somewhat preoccupied. He hailed a carriage and headed towards Queens.

Oh, I'm off work and going home.

Luze happened to be going to Queens to see Audrey Hall, so he hitched a ride in his carriage and sat opposite him in the same compartment. Along the way, he observed the other man's expression, from resentment to helplessness, and finally to resignation, which seemed very real.

"It's good that you gave up; you've been given a second chance at life."

With these thoughts in mind, Lu Ze stepped off the carriage as it stopped and the door opened.

Earl Hall's villa was just a few blocks away; he had been there once before and remembered it.

Unlike the East Side, the streets of Queens are clean and tidy. The Intis plane trees lining the roads have lost their leaves due to the arrival of winter, but their bare trunks still look magnificent and impressive.

Lu Ze, holding the cat, counted the branches of the Intis sycamore tree as he passed by several patrolling police officers.

The East District has very few officers, and their attitude is extremely perfunctory. In a neighborhood like the one managed by Lu Ze, with nearly a thousand people, there's only one officer just going through the motions. Unlike here, there are so many officers, and their attitudes are quite serious and responsible.
While casually pondering similar questions, he had already arrived at Earl Hall's villa.

The aristocracy's social season is from June to December in the latter half of the year, and now is the time for them to leave their country villas and return here, which should include Audrey Hall.

But how should I meet her?
When Lu Ze arrived at the villa, he realized he should have notified her beforehand so she could make some preparations. What if she wasn't there? He would have made a wasted trip.
"Luna, quickly tell me if Miss Audrey is home?"

He looked down at his cat and said.

"Meow?"

The black cat looked up at him, its azure eyes full of innocence, as if it didn't understand what he was saying.

Fortunately, Lu Ze didn't have to wait long. He noticed a large golden retriever running happily in the yard. Then, taking advantage of the servants' inattention, it quietly approached the wall, eventually squeezing through a hole and reaching the street outside.

By the way, this dog must be Miss Audrey's pet. It's an extraordinary creature, and very intelligent!
"Ha ha"

Susie was panting happily with her tongue lolling out, just as she was about to frolic and jump around, when suddenly a dark shadow descended in front of her.

Was there anything here just now?

It looked up in confusion, and then saw a face that had once left a psychological scar on it, and a thick and terrible smell of blood filled its sensitive nostrils.

Why didn't I notice such a strong smell before?

"Woo!"

Susie let out a whimper of fear, her tail instantly tucked between her legs. She saw the terrifying figure smiling at her, its backlit shadow revealing only two rows of gleaming white teeth.

"I'm saying, you can understand me, right?"
