Mystery: The Last Shepherd
Chapter 32 Escape
Chapter 32 Escape
Despite being hit by demon hunter bullets, Lanius miraculously leaped to his feet and revived. He looked at Luze, a maniacal smile in his eyes.
"Very good, you're excellent. I misjudged you earlier."
He laughed maniacally, clutching his stomach, and said, "But look, I've come back from the dead! The gods are on my side! Hahaha!"
"Night Watchman! Lanius, you are surrounded!"
Luze shouted loudly and quickly retreated, putting distance between himself and Lanluus. Of course, he had no reinforcements; he was only shouting to intimidate Lanluus.
However, Lanius was a fraud and didn't believe Luze at all. Hearing Luze shout that, his smile widened, and he drew a dagger from his waist, charging towards Luze.
One step, two steps!
He was incredibly fast; almost in the blink of an eye, the distance between them was reduced to less than a meter.
Just then, he suddenly saw Lu Ze raise a bell.
"jingle."
Luze infused the bell with his spiritual energy, and a clear, resonant sound rang out, seemingly echoing in one's mind and influencing Lanluus's thoughts. Soon, the mad and cunning smile on Lanluus's face vanished, and he stood there blankly, his arm holding the dagger hanging limply at his sides, his eyes unfocused and dazed.
Taking this opportunity, Luze once again distanced himself from Laneus.
He had originally planned to take the opportunity to change the revolver bullets, but he did not expect that Lanius would quickly break free of control, his eyes would turn fierce again, and he would pounce on Luze. He wanted to kill this bastard who ruined his plans and made him suffer!
"jingle."
Without hesitation, Lu Ze immediately raised the bell again, infused it with spiritual energy, and shook it.
Thus, the two were locked in a strange stalemate. Luze rang the bell, and Lanluus was controlled; Luze took the opportunity to create distance, and Lanluus quickly broke free and launched another attack, at which point Luze rang the bell again.
The two acted as if they were playing like children, but Lu Ze knew the danger lurking beneath the surface. He was merely a Sequence 9 Mystic, and his spiritual energy was insufficient to sustain this magical item for long.
The spiritual energy within him was rapidly draining away, making it difficult to maintain the operation of the magical artifact, and the time he could control Lanius was becoming increasingly shorter. The latter clearly noticed this, and a mocking smile appeared on his face. "Are you just waiting to die?"
"I'm waiting for you to have your baby."
Lu Ze retorted.
Lanius's smile froze. He glanced down at his abdomen, seemingly recalling what had happened before, and a murderous glint quickly appeared in his eyes. He stopped speaking and instead launched a relentless attack, forcing Luze to use the magical item even more frequently.
The distance between the two gradually closed.
I still have two Demon Hunter bullets, but they don't seem to have any effect on him.
Lu Ze gritted his teeth, secretly pondering how to deal with Laneus.
Damn it, if it doesn't work, we'll fight him!
Just as Luze was about to raise his gun and fight Lanius to the death, he suddenly saw Lanius's body jerk, numerous tumors sprouting from his face, and his expression becoming twisted and painful.
Could it be that he's starting to lose control again?
Lu Ze thought to himself, not letting his guard down for a moment.
It was at this moment that a series of commotions finally disturbed the people sleeping in the mental hospital. Many lights came on, some patients peered out of the windows, and several people who looked like doctors and nurses appeared at the entrance of the ward.
Lanius pressed his face, and the writhing tumor subsided slightly. He glanced at the increasingly lively scene and glared hatefully at Luze. Then, without any hesitation, he turned and ran towards the altar.
Seeing Lanius flee, Luzer immediately gave chase, gun in hand, but kept a distance. Lanius was too cunning; Luzer feared it was a trap to lure him in. Lanius completely ignored Luzer, stumbling and running until he reached the altar, where he suddenly crouched down. When he stood up again, a bag was in his right hand. Luzer recalled that it was the bag he had taken when he entered Hood Eugen's ward.
He's really going to run away!
Luze raised his gun, aimed, and fired at Lanius's head from a distance of about ten meters.
"boom!"
With one shot, Lanius stumbled and fell, and when he got up, his steps became unsteady, but he still ran away without stopping.
"boom!"
The second shot rang out, and the bottom of Lanius's bag was pierced. As he ran, bundles of banknotes spilled out onto the ground.
Holy crap, what a coincidence!
Lu Ze marveled at his own haphazard marksmanship, but his attention was quickly drawn to the large pile of banknotes on the ground. How many pounds must that pile of banknotes hold?
Lanius froze abruptly. He glanced back at the banknotes scattered on the ground, then looked up at Luze, his eyes filled with resentment.
Don't look at me, I didn't expect to be so accurate either.
Lu Ze thought to himself, but on his face he showed a confident smile to Lanluus, as if he had specifically aimed at the two shots just now.
Just when Luze thought that Laneus was going to grab a handful of money and run away, or fight him to the death, he simply threw away his tattered bag, then turned around and sped out of the asylum gate, ran into the darkness outside the streetlights, and disappeared.
He was so cunning, ruthless, and insane, but his own life was the most important thing to him.
Lu Ze dared not slack off. When he ran out of Demon Hunter bullets, he took out spare regular bullets from his holster, loaded them into his revolver, and then jogged over to the pile of banknotes.
My God, so much money.
Looking at the stacks of beautifully printed banknotes, displayed so lavishly before him, Luze was momentarily dizzy. Just how many people had that bastard, Lanius, swindled out of so many people?!
His two gunshots completely roused the mental hospital. The patients began shouting and making a ruckus, followed by the anxious voices of the doctors and nurses.
Several guards surrounded a doctor as they cautiously approached Luze.
"Mr. Rondor, I have already called the police. Please put down your gun and don't make any more mistakes!"
The doctor was none other than Wilder, Luze's previous attending physician. Surprisingly, he remained calm despite seeing Luze covered in blood (splattered by Hudgen), and even offered words of advice: "You must have done this wrong out of fear."
He seemed to think Lu Ze was having a mental breakdown and was randomly shooting people. Well, judging from the scene, that does seem to be the case.
"They called the police? That's great, saves me the trouble of calling them myself."
To his surprise, Lu Ze smiled with relief upon hearing this. The police would conveniently hand the matter over to the night watchmen, saving him the trouble.
It's a pity that Lanius escaped.
Wilder was taken aback by his appearance and couldn't tell whether he was serious or not.
"Don't look at me like that, Dr. Wilder, I'm not sick."
Lu Ze chuckled, patting the brain matter and bloodstains off his body. "Don't just stand there. I'm still waiting for you to give me a certificate proving I'm mentally sound."
