Chapter 255 Graveyard
Chapter 255 Graveyard
Urged on by Reinhard, BUG and his ten-man squad hurriedly caught up with the Space Marine. They advanced along the winding supply route along the edge of the trenches, the air thick with the smell of gunpowder, dirt, and an indescribable stench of life—the distinctive odor of the Tyranids.
As they were moving, a faint energy fluctuation suddenly appeared around BUG. Immediately afterwards, forty semi-transparent figures materialized out of thin air and appeared on BUG's left and right sides.
"Hey, guys, you're here?" BUG smugly gestured with his chin towards Reinhard. "See? I told you they'd come!"
Reinhard merely glanced at the group of players who had suddenly appeared, his eyes showing no emotion whatsoever.
"All those going to their deaths, form battle formation and follow me." Reinhard's voice was deep and powerful. Although the forty newly resurrected players were somewhat confused about the situation, they instinctively sensed the Space Marines' aura and immediately stopped their playful antics. They quickly integrated with their original ten-man squads and, led by Reinhard, rapidly approached the front lines of the Tyrannical battle.
As they ventured deeper, the stench in the air grew stronger, and the clamor of the battlefield gradually became clearer. What first appeared before them was a breathtaking sight: massive Leman Rustanks, their chassis buried deep in scorched earth and rubble, only their heavy and sturdy turrets visible.
These different models of Leman Russ tanks have now been transformed into semi-permanent bunkers. In the face of a hasty and massive counterattack from the Tyrannosaurus, this is a common and effective way to put a large number of damaged or soon-to-be-damaged tanks back into service and make the most of their remaining strength.
The cannons of these steel fortresses were all pointed forward at the thick fog that billowed with a mixture of green and purple. It was the Tyranid spore smoke, unique to the Tyranids, mixed with large quantities of corrosive poison gas released by the suicide bombers, shrouding the front line in what looked like an apocalyptic hell.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
Each Lemanrus was like an enraged beast, relentlessly unleashing firepower into the thick fog. The deafening roar of the main guns shook the very earth. Each shell explosion tore a brief flash of light through the fog, and in this fleeting orange-red glint, the crowd could barely make out the terrifying silhouettes of writhing, leaping, and charging creatures within the fog—countless Tyrannosaurus Rex, with claws, fangs, bone scythes, and their twisted, ferocious faces.
Reinhard's sharp eyes caught sight of a Lemanrus Annihilator, its turret-mounted twin laser cannons relentlessly pursuing a Tyranid Executioner moving at high speed through the dense fog with incredible precision. The executioner, massive and with thick limbs, wielded a huge bone scythe, attempting to weave left and right through the fog to evade attacks. However, the Annihilator's laser beams were relentless, striking its body precisely each time.
"laugh--!"
The scorching laser beams pierced the executioner's armor time and again, the charred flesh vaporizing under the intense heat. Even as the executioner writhed, rolled, and leaped desperately, the twin-mounted laser cannons relentlessly pursued it, each shot hitting its mark. Only when the executioner was reduced to half a body, twitched a few times, and finally collapsed, lifeless, did the annihilator's turret slowly move to find its next target.
"How did these Leman Rustanks... detect the enemy?" Reinhard's voice held a hint of confusion. In such a dense Tyrannospheric fog, visibility was extremely low, and precision instruments like the Bird Servant were easily affected or even damaged. This precise strike surprised even this battle-hardened Space Marine.
“Oh, that?” BUG waved his hand dismissively. “Those Mechanic players have plenty of tricks and strength. Things like the White Eye, Chronos, and even telepathic towers that can get information through spores, there are tons of them.”
He paused, then added, "With coordinated attacks from both sides, these tank crews are practically immune to vision. As long as Tyrannosaurus is still moving and breathing, they can pinpoint his location and hit him with every shot." Reinhard seemed thoughtful; he naturally had some understanding of the Mechanicus's technology tree. The unheard-of terms "White Eyes," "Crossroads," and "Telepathic Towers" that Bug mentioned sounded like some kind of advanced, even heretical, technology. Generally speaking, such technologies were either relics of the Empire's lost golden age or simply belonged to the Xenomorphs.
He couldn't help but wonder if the newly discovered planet of Peditia was hiding a large number of ancient ruins. Otherwise, it would be hard to imagine how the Mechanicus of Peditia could possess so many advanced technologies that even he found unfamiliar.
However, these tech-priests from Peditian used these technologies so openly, without any secrecy whatsoever. What if they were being targeted… Reinhard's mind was immediately clouded by this thought, but he quickly realized he was overthinking it. Peditian now had over a hundred thousand Space Marines behind it; who would dare touch them?
Even if there were enemies outside the Empire, or some ambitious heretical force, daring to covet the "technology" on Pedithia, the first reaction of the planet's suicides would probably not be fear, but rather... surprise, right? Reinhard could even imagine the light shining in the players' eyes and their eager expressions, as if they were welcoming a grand feast.
No longer dwelling on these things, Reinhard led his men forward. They soon arrived at the actual front lines.
The scene here was more horrific and chaotic than anywhere else before. Countless abandoned tanks lay scattered haphazardly on the scorched earth, some not even properly buried. The massive steel wreckage served as makeshift shelters for the dying and Astartes warriors. Shell craters were everywhere, and the mixture of mud and blood formed a stenchy swamp.
The sheer number of tanks was staggering. Some were torn apart, some melted through, and others corroded beyond recognition. This steel graveyard even affected the Tyranid ecosystem: having consumed so much metal residue, the newly hatched Tyranids from the hatching pools had an unnatural metallic sheen on their carapaces, reflecting an eerie glow in the dim battlefield, making them appear even more ferocious and terrifying.
"Sizzle sizzle..."
The distinctive hissing and screech of Tyranid insects, along with human roars and the deafening explosions of laser guns, echoed through the thick fog. The front lines had descended into a fierce, chaotic battle.
Looking at this hellish scene, BUG swallowed hard. Although he had seen a lot of bloodshed, this scale of hand-to-hand combat still gave him some instinctive reactions, which was a genetic influence.
"What do we do? Reinhard, who should we report to?" BUG asked, instinctively trying to find a commander to coordinate the mission.
Reinhard didn't hesitate for a second: "Reporting is nonsense, let's get right to it!"
