Trench Bolts and Magic

Chapter 62 Goodbye Captain

Chapter 62 Goodbye Captain
Upon witnessing this, the defending soldiers on the distant positions immediately unleashed a barrage of fire on the 'St. George III' without even needing orders from their officers.

“Ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding!”

Countless bullets struck its armor, sending up bursts of dense sparks, but they couldn't cause it any real damage.

At this moment, the armored knights' despair-inducing suppression of infantry was fully displayed.

As Morin watched the steel giant, covered in oil and scratches, approach step by step, his mind raced, trying to figure out a way to solve his current predicament.

Rifles? Grenades? Useless. Previous battles have repeatedly proven that these individual weapons are simply ineffective against it.

Just as he was getting anxious, he suddenly caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of his eye.

That was a shaped charge armor-piercing shell that had fallen off the rack next to Ludwig's machine gun due to the collapse earlier!

A crazy idea instantly formed in Maureen's mind.

Although this thing was designed for temporary use by armored knights, as its designer, Morin knew very well that although its weight was heavy for an adult male, it was not entirely impossible for him to lift it!
As long as you can carry it, get close to that 'St. George III', and detonate it at close range.
He glanced at the approaching armored knight, then at the shaped charge shell on the ground, a hint of hesitation appearing in his eyes.

Why should I risk my life for a country that I've only been in for 48 hours?
In that instant of hesitation, a large hand covered in blood and grime grabbed his collar from behind and dragged him to the back.

It was Captain Hauser.

"Captain?"

Maureen turned around and saw a face covered in scars and blood.

Captain Hauser's face was frighteningly pale, and his lips were bloodless from blood loss.

Morin's gaze shifted downwards, and he was horrified to discover that Captain Hauser's abdomen had been pierced by a not-so-thin, sharp wooden splinter at some point.

Blood was gushing from the wound, staining his gray military uniform a shocking dark red.

"Captain! You're injured! Quick! Find a place to lie down!"

Morin was shocked and reached out to help him.

"Leave me alone"

Captain Hauser's voice was weak, but his eyes were unusually firm.

He shoved a cloth-wrapped package into Morin's arms and then pushed him inside the building.

"You're still young, live on!"

This was the last thing Captain Hauser said to Morin.

Then, he resolutely turned around and burst out of the building with an agility that made him seem unharmed.

His actions also attracted the attention of two other Saxon veterans who were also seriously injured and almost unable to stand.

The two veterans were stunned for a moment when they saw Captain Hauser's actions, but then they understood what was going on.

They looked at each other and saw the same resolute determination in each other's eyes.

The armored knight had already reached them, its raised sword gleaming with enchanted blue light.

At this moment, the 'St. George III' is in an upside-down grip, ready to plunge down hard and completely end Ludwig's ride.

Then, he saw a scene that made his hair stand on end.

Three infantrymen, who seemed to appear out of nowhere, bent down together and used all their strength to lift the thick "firewood stick" off the ground!
"Not good!" The image of his two companions being instantly destroyed by this weapon flashed through the mind of the armored knight pilot.

He was terrified and no longer cared about attacking the fallen Siegfried 1. Instead, he immediately changed his target, brandishing his armed sword and slashing fiercely at the three infantrymen carrying deadly weapons!
His shield, along with his severed left arm, had been lost in the previous battle.

Now, the only way he can stop these three lunatics is to chop them all into mincemeat before they detonate that damn weapon!

As the massive sword blade fell from above, Captain Hauser and the other two veterans showed no fear whatsoever.

They simply raised their heads, facing the deadly cold light, and with the last of their strength, let out a deafening roar.

"The glory of the Saxon Empire will live on forever!!!"

They roared, and Captain Hauser fumbled around, pressing the mechanical activation device at the tail of the shaped charge projectile.

"boom--!"

A dazzling flame once again blazed across the battlefield.

The scorching jet of metal, with unstoppable force, pierced through the cockpit of the 'St. George 3' from the front.

The Knights of Garde pilot and his vehicle were completely reduced to scrap metal by this attack.

However, the cost was also heavy.

The immense impact of the explosion, along with the falling weapon due to inertia, simultaneously struck the three valiant soldiers.

Captain Hauser and two other veterans didn't even get to see the enemy being destroyed before they were torn to pieces by the explosions and slashes.

Crimson blood stained that ravaged land.

Morin, who was pushed into the ruins, watched this scene with eyes wide open, his nails digging deep into the flesh of his palms, but he could not make a sound.

On the other side, William, the only one still standing on the battlefield, was piloting an armored knight who had charged into the chaotic Britannian infantry and begun a bloody 'Musou' battle.

His goal was clear—to completely kill the heavily wounded and fallen mage, Eldridge!
According to pre-war intelligence, although Eldridge was a high-ranking mage, the number of spells he could cast each day was limited.

He has already used several high-level spells today, including [Transform Rock] and [Sword of Demon Duncan].

Judging from the spell slots available to a mage of his level, unless he continues to use high-level spell scrolls, he theoretically cannot use any spells that could threaten the armored knight.

However, high-level spell scrolls are handmade products, and only high-level archmages have the ability to make them. They are extremely rare, and even in Brittany, they are very precious 'strategic resources'.

So now might be the best time to take down Eldridge.
Thinking of this, William's murderous intent intensified.

He piloted the Siegfried I like a tiger among sheep, each swing of his battle axe claiming the lives of several Britannian soldiers who couldn't escape in time.

He quickly cleared away the surrounding obstacles and came to Eldridge, who was still struggling on the ground, ready to chop the culprit who had caused them so many casualties into mincemeat with an axe!
Just then, Eldridge, whose mouth was still bleeding, struggled to his feet, leaning on his nearly broken staff.

He looked at the massive battle axe about to fall, a cruel yet insane smile on his face.

With trembling hands, he pulled out another seemingly ordinary parchment scroll from his magnificent but blood-stained robe.

Then he used his teeth to bite open the spell seal on the scroll.

A thin, seemingly harmless green ray shot out from the scroll and silently struck the 'Siegfried Type 1' piloted by William.
