Chapter 102 Burn, America!
Chapter 102 Burn, America!
The conferment ceremony turned into a death ceremony.
The gunman did not run away, but stood there raising his pistol and shouting, "For the purity of white America!" He was then subdued by the police who rushed at him.
Sanders was rushed to the hospital, but his injuries were too severe, and he stopped breathing en route.
Voice of Liberty's "live broadcast" has once again turned into a live death broadcast.
The somber voice of the Voice of Freedom radio announcer echoed through radios in countless homes: "It is with deep sorrow that we announce that, despite all efforts to save him, Officer Sanders has tragically passed away..."
Listeners across the United States were momentarily stunned.
This scene looks so familiar. Have we experienced this before?
Or perhaps, time has stopped?
After a moment of realization, it dawned on everyone that this was indeed another hero featured by The Sun! And another death during a live broadcast! Everyone was terrified!
Is it your ranking list that's cursed? Or is it your live stream that's cursed?
This seemingly surreal coincidence made people involuntarily ignore the serious consequences that Sanders' murder might have brought, and focus only on what kind of mess The Sun had made!
Even the editorial staff of The Sun newspaper were the same.
When Logan returned to the newspaper office, he saw that everyone who had received the news of Sanders' death was also in a daze—was the destructive power of our hero list a bit terrifying?
Logan tapped the table to bring everyone back to their senses. "Gentlemen, if we had this kind of superpower, why would we need newspapers?"
"I think the key to the problem is the 'hero's declaration'!"
Logan, with a serious expression, presented the key point he had discovered.
"It took me a while to realize that Prince's saying 'unless I'm dead' and Sanders' saying 'when I'm done with my life' are just self-inflicted curses, aren't they?"
"From now on, we must choose declarations that are more earthly, and never use words from the underworld like 'alive,' 'dead,' or 'tombstone'..."
The editors thought about it and wholeheartedly agreed, nodding like chickens pecking at rice.
We must learn from this "tearful lesson" next time. Damn it, if another one dies, won't they become executioners?
Perhaps out of a sense of guilt, no one in the editorial department objected when Logan suggested a grand tribute to Sanders.
In stark contrast to its treatment of Prince, The Sun went all out this time, publishing a series of articles from different perspectives to mourn the black police officer.
"The Eternal Heart" details how he grew up in a mixed-race family, how he aspired to become a police officer to bridge racial divides, and how he demonstrated tolerance and understanding in his daily work.
"The Last Word" movingly describes Sanders's unwavering commitment even on his deathbed: "After being shot and falling to the ground, Officer Sanders did not shout for revenge, but used his last strength to tell his family not to hate..."
The Sun didn't utter a single word accusing white people, but the words were filled with accusation: the gunshots tore apart the atmosphere of harmony. Such a good man, who so desperately wanted to end hatred, was killed by white people. Did someone want America to burn?
People only realized then, "Oh no, what are the Black people thinking now?"
……
how to think?
Want to set America on fire!
Originally, after Sanders became the "American Hero," the Black community was divided into two factions: one faction believed that Sanders' approach to reconciliation was the right path, and that revenge was a vicious cycle; the other faction believed that he was a "white man's slave" and was trying to divide the Black resistance forces.
But his death, in which he was killed in public by white people, temporarily eliminated all divisions.
Sanders became a true Black hero, a martyr who gave his life for peace.
The Black-owned newspaper, The Chicago Defender, devoted its entire front page to a photo of Sanders, with the headline consisting of only three striking words: "Why?"
The subsequent editorial expressed the sentiments of most Black people:
"When a man trying to build a bridge is mercilessly shot, when a man who calls for an end to hatred is destroyed by hatred, we have to ask: Why? Why can't Black people even be good people?" "Because white people don't treat us like human beings! When our Black brothers become heroes, their reaction is that Black people don't deserve to live!"
"Since that's the case, we have no other choice but to rise up and fight, Black brothers!"
This is the consistent stance of the Chicago Defenders, and it's hard to say what kind of protest they hope to see.
But Sanders' death was like throwing a torch into a pile of dry tinder!
In Chicago’s underground bars, Black musicians composed “The Sanders Song,” whose lyrics were straightforward and resolute in calling for resistance.
At a car factory in Detroit, Black workers began to hold public rallies to discuss how to organize a strike to protest racial discrimination.
The real flames began to burn in the south.
In Mississippi, Hughie is rallying his Black comrades.
“Everyone has seen it: when a Black man tries to follow the rules, he is mocked; when a Black man goes to school, he is ostracized; when a Black man wears a police uniform to uphold the law, he is shot.”
"Brothers! We've had enough verbal protests. This time, we'll show the white people our resolve and lead the Black people onto the path of true awakening!"
A low, resonant sound emanated from the crowd.
"Will white people give us freedom?" Hughie shouted. "No! They'll only give us more chains!"
"Will they give us justice? No! They'll only subject us to more vigilante justice!"
"Will they give us dignity? No! They'll only humiliate us more!"
With each question asked, the crowd responded louder.
“Officer Sanders believed in peaceful coexistence, he believed in white conscience, he believed in the American Dream!” Hughie’s voice suddenly lowered. “And what did they give him? A bullet! In broad daylight!”
"So what else can we do?"
"Fight!" An angry growl echoed through the crowd.
“That’s right! Fighting!” Hughie’s eyes gleamed with a fiery light. “But it’s not just about fighting!”
"We want our Black brothers to know the glory of our ancestors, to know that Wakanda is secretly protecting us, and to know that our awakening will eventually bring glory back to our descendants!"
The crowd's emotions were ignited; people stood up and raised their fists.
“Brothers, we may bleed this time,” Hughie clenched his fist, “but a people cannot stand without bloodshed!”
Despite the objections, Hughie resolutely declared, "I will personally lead the way in shedding blood; let our blood burn!"
“Let America—” Hughie’s voice reached its peak: “Burn!”
"Burn!" a group of Black soldiers shouted in unison!
At this moment, no one knows how far this fire will spread, how long it will last, or what kind of destruction and rebirth it will cause.
Summer in America has only just begun!
