Chapter 51 The US Army Regroups Strongly
You may not understand the world, but you cannot ignore the problems of the real world.
Spurred by the astonishment of friendly nations, the federal government finally stopped letting the Prohibition Bureau fight alone.
Multiple departments were called in to coordinate and help the Prohibition Bureau resolve this unprecedented problem.
Colonel William's command position was unshakeable. With bloodshot eyes, he almost roared, making only one demand: "Give me cannons! At least one artillery battery! I want to blast that damned ring, along with the Europeans and bootlegging inside, into the sky!"
However, when the officials of Chicago City Hall heard this, they were terrified and shook their heads vigorously.
"Absolutely not!"
"Colonel, do you know how many big shots have come to Chicago right now? Let me put it this way, if you just throw a brick down there, it could probably kill a millionaire or a European nobleman."
"If you fire a shell that misses its mark and accidentally injures or even kills some big shot, then it won't just be a matter of prohibition anymore, it will become an international incident! It will throw the world into chaos!"
"We must ensure the absolute safety of Chicago!"
The Chicago official paused, softening his tone, "Besides, artillery shells aren't as easy to hide as bullets. There's no indication that the Chicago gangs possess artillery, and you don't need to get on one. You can ask the intelligence agency if you don't believe me."
The Bureau of Investigation representative nodded awkwardly; they had indeed found no evidence of artillery entering Chicago.
But Colonel William had lost all trust in the Bureau of Investigation and only sneered, "Then tell me, how did so much bootleg liquor get to Chicago?"
"Uh……"
Chicago officials were speechless.
He can't exactly say that bootlegging isn't important, that smuggling bootlegging into Chicago won't threaten anyone's life, and that it will only affect the Prohibition Bureau's KPIs at most.
But if I say that, I might not be able to leave the meeting room.
"We in Chicago will absolutely not allow artillery into the city!" a Chicago official said defiantly.
"If you're afraid of snipers, go to the North District and fight the British and French. Anyway, the movies say they're only prepared for bayonet fighting. It's inhumane for you to use artillery..."
"A movie? What movie came out this time!?"
"Another movie is coming out!?"
Colonel William and John Kramer spoke in unison.
They all have a psychological aversion to the word "movie"!
……
"World War II (Mini Version) 2: The Southern Front," directed by Michael Walden who worked day and night to finish the film, capitalized on the American military's "small loss equals victory" sentiment.
— Judging by the time the battle is over, if director Michael is still working himself to death, his overtime bonuses will be enough to fund a movie.
After the movie was released, many more people who were unable to travel to Chicago to watch the battle went to the theater to see the real performance of the US military.
After a hasty meeting, Colonel William and John Kramer went into a crowded movie theater together.
The film begins with the preparations of the South District garrison:
The German snipers introduced themselves as snipers on camera, boasting about how many British and Frenchmen they had killed in the European war.
(British and French: Are you being polite?)
Colonel William immediately cursed in his heart!
Are you trying to play me? What's the point of releasing this information now if you didn't reveal it in the first movie?
This further convinced him that neither the media nor the intelligence agencies were trustworthy. The film continues, showing American troops entering the city and receiving a warm welcome from Chicagoans.
Colonel William's facial muscles twitched as he recalled the drastic change in the Chicagoans' attitudes, but he didn't want to comment on it.
But the audience, influenced by the atmosphere, began to applaud.
The film moves at a brisk pace, quickly advancing to the start of the war.
Colonel William had expected the movie to harshly mock the American military's defeat, but it turned out not to be!
As the US military began its attack, a new background music track was played in the movie.
The moment the background music started, it sent shivers down the spines of all the viewers. Holy crap, what kind of epic battlefield music is this?!
Colonel William was too busy directing the operation to notice the camera positions, but he was clearly very close to the battlefield. The resulting footage made the audience feel as if bullets were whizzing past them!
The background music starts with a feeling of charging into battle. After a few dozen seconds, the female vocals and the continuously soaring piano music, accompanied by the progressively increasing drumbeats, get people's blood pumping and the war reaches its climax!
The sniper fired, and the American soldier fell; the scene immediately switched to the defender's perspective, where the sniper was also hit by the American bullet and fell silently to the ground.
Colonel William found it incredible. In his eyes, the American troops were in a complete retreat, but after the movie was edited, it turned into a lose-lose situation!
Especially after the US military withdrew, the film did not show the confrontation between the military and civilians, but instead focused the camera on the seemingly victorious snipers.
Instead of cheering, they wearily asked their commander if another wave would arrive, and that they would need reinforcements.
Then came the commander's impassioned speech: "Without support, we are alone; the British and French to the north? They are not to be trusted. We have suffered heavy losses, but we can only hold out to the end, for victory!"
The background music "For The Win" is coming to an end.
The movie ends with a post-credits scene that cuts to the North District "arena" where there is no gunfire.
A British soldier and a French soldier, their muscular arms gripping Springfield rifles fitted with training bayonets, are facing off.
"Come on, you son of a bitch!" the French soldier growled, taking a step forward and thrusting forward with lightning speed, aiming straight for the British soldier's throat.
The latter parried swiftly, the gun barrels colliding with a dull thud. Instead of retreating, he used the momentum to twist open the gun barrel, lunging forward and thrusting his blade like a venomous snake toward the opponent's heart, only to stop abruptly at the last centimeter.
This is footage from a bayonet training exercise.
The British soldier who won the bayonet charge had his chest heaving violently, staring at the camera as if he had locked onto his prey:
"A real man never hides behind cover to carry out assassinations; we only use the weapons of the brave to destroy the enemy's will!"
(Germany and Italy: ??? I suspect you're talking about someone else)
"American soldiers, we fought together, and now we fight for our own beliefs; if I die by your bayonets, do not grieve, but remember to pour a bucket of wine on my grave, for we all fought for victory!"
The background music "For The Win" plays again!
"Let those former defeated foes in the south catch their breath. Let's have a real fight, a fiery clash between true men!"
The grand and majestic soundtrack, coupled with the British "declaration of war," gives the audience a sense of urgency, as if they are about to go to the battlefield. However, Colonel William remains completely unmoved.
He could only sigh deeply to his superiors, thinking that the person who made this movie must be a devil who manipulates people's hearts.
But when I turned around, wait a minute, sir, why are you shaking your leg?!
John Kramer, brimming with fighting spirit, grabbed Colonel William's hand. "You must play this music for the soldiers!"
"Let them train hard in bayonet fighting, and take a decisive victory over the British!"
Colonel William: ...
Sir, please wake up! (Shouting desperately)
