Chapter 341 The Farce at the Party
Chapter 341 The Farce at the Party (Part 1)
“It’s been a long time since I’ve been to the Griffin’s house. It’s quite a rare occasion for Ariel to host a party this time.” Several young people who got off the carriage gathered together, chatting as they walked.
"The house was designed by the former master, Bren, and uses bluish-black tiles and white tiles with a slight salt stain for the walls. The style is quite good."
"It is said that it cost a lot of money, and Mr. Alainford was quite in debt at the time."
"Hehehe, after all, it's only the first generation, there's nothing we can do about the lack of foundation."
The young masters and ladies who could attend this gathering were all wealthy and noble, many of them from large families that had been passed down for generations. Even if they showed respect to Griffin, a newly rich family, they would still feel an inescapable sense of superiority.
As they walked inside, they commented on the various flowers and plants displayed in the courtyard.
"Hehe, these are just temporary flower pots. Don't they have a professional florist or gardener?"
“Oh, it’s to save money. My family’s rose garden has been passed down from my great-grandfather. It costs a lot of money to maintain it every year. I’ll take you to see it next month, when the roses will be in bloom.”
Wow, there's even a dedicated rose garden?
"Yes, it is said that it was a 'Forland Rose' that was specially transplanted from 'Harp Flower Union'. It is different from the common varieties and is very delicate."
"Oh, I definitely have to go check it out."
As the group was talking, Ariel was walking towards them from the corner of the corridor with her entourage. She had heard everything they had said, and although she felt very uncomfortable, she still managed to put on a smile when they reached her.
"Welcome, Verlena, your red dress is really eye-catching today~" The Verlena that Eriel was talking about was the girl who had just mentioned that her family had a rose garden.
"Thank you, Ariel, you're so kind. You're the only one who noticed how different I am today; no one else could tell." After saying that, the two laughed and hugged each other. If an outsider had seen them, they would have thought they were very close friends.
Verlena has beautiful chestnut hair, with a wisp of hair framing her face and slightly wavy, while the other side is tied up with a deep red ribbon that wraps around her neck and falls to her chest. Today, she is wearing a rose-red dress with a flowing, wave-like hem that subtly reveals her smooth knees as she walks. Combined with her outstanding looks, she is the center of attention wherever she goes.
Compared to her, even though Ariel had prepared a beautiful dress with a snow-white base and gold seaweed flower embellishments, she was still outshone by Verlena in terms of temperament and appearance.
Faced with this situation, Ariel smiled and welcomed them on the surface, but secretly she was grinding her teeth in anger. It was supposed to be a party where she, as the host, was supposed to show off her charm, but this time someone else stole the spotlight.
When Verlena arrived, her beautiful figure and striking rose-red dress immediately attracted a lot of attention, and many young men began to whisper among themselves.
"As expected of the second young lady of the Sandra family, her family background and appearance are flawless."
"If I could marry her, I would be willing to live ten years less."
"Hehe, then I'll say twenty years."
"Forget it, brother, it won't be twenty years. There are plenty of beautiful women out there. Why hang yourself on that one tree?"
"Actually, Ariel is not bad either. She is tall and beautiful."
"However, it lacks a certain elegance. How should I put it? It's like a shiny gold coin—it's nice, and I do like it, but it's just a bit tacky," one boy commented.
"Your standards are too high. Although Ariel may not be the best, there aren't many girls prettier than her in Quebec."
As the group was talking, a noblewoman stepped down from a carriage in the front yard. She wore an ornate hat adorned with flowers and feathers, carried an expensive handbag in one hand, and led a young man in a formal suit by the hand in the other.
"Mrs. Mossa and Young Master Wes have arrived. Go and inform Miss." Upon seeing this, two of the servants in the courtyard quickly left to find Ariel, who was entertaining the guests.
In the Quebec region, apart from the city lord's family, the 'Tumbleweed Family' to which Madam Mosa belongs has the highest status. It is said that their family holds titles in two or three countries, and Madam Mosa's grandfather was a count in a neighboring country. Although her father did not inherit the title, he still maintains ties with the family.
"We're here, Wes. Come with me." "Yes, Mother." Young Master Wes followed Mrs. Mossa somewhat awkwardly.
At first, he walked very upright, but after a while, he became restless and started to slack off. His eyes darted around, staring at the pretty girls at the party without any attempt to hide it.
Mrs. Mossa, who was walking ahead, greeted each acquaintance along the way. Most of the people here were young, a generation below her, and many of them had to bow to her when they saw her.
Mrs. Mossa responded with a smile, telling everyone not to be so polite. She then asked a servant and led Wes toward the center of the garden where the gathering was taking place.
“Madam.” Reminded by a servant, Ariel approached Madam Mossa and bowed politely. Her long, golden, wavy hair, bathed in the afternoon sunlight, had a translucent and beautiful quality.
Mrs. Mossa responded with a smile and a nod.
“I heard you had a party today, so I brought Wes along. Have a good time.” When she turned around, Wes was now standing up straight, behaving politely and properly, completely unlike his earlier look around.
Mrs. Mossa then whispered a few more words of advice in his ear before taking her leave.
It's clear that this lady cares a lot about Wess, her only son, and wants him to present a respectable image in front of others.
Seeing Mrs. Mossa leave, Wes pretended to be reserved for a while, but soon revealed his true colors under the urging of his companions.
"Haha, it's Mrs. Mosa who brought you here again. You must be almost 15 years old this year."
"Don't say anymore, I didn't want to either, but my mother insisted on coming along." Wes picked up the fruit wine next to him and complained to his companion.
"These clothes are really uncomfortable." He tugged at his collar to let it breathe.
"We're all just wearing shirts today, but you've dressed up quite formally. What, you've actually fallen for Ariel? I've seen you two talking together a lot lately," a companion teased.
"This is none of your business," Wes said, swatting his friend away.
Amidst the laughter of the group, Ariel, surrounded by her girlfriends, approached Wes.
Although she had been overshadowed by Verlena earlier, this was, after all, her home turf. Surrounded by a group of close friends and servants, her invisible aura and presence immediately brought her back into the spotlight.
“Young Master Wes.” Ariel crossed her arms in front of her waist, highlighting the curves of her strapless dress, and when she bowed, Wes couldn’t take his eyes off her.
“Hello, Ariel, you look beautiful today.” He spoke somewhat haltingly, as if processing a lot of extra information.
Seeing this, Ariel smiled and continued chatting, talking about the recent weather, interesting things in life, and so on.
During the process, several of Wes's close friends tried to interrupt and tease him, but fortunately, Ariel's group of girlfriends were not just for show. They cleverly managed to get rid of them and create a private environment for the two of them.
Soon, the two walked to a corner of the garden, where they looked at the newly arranged flowers and whispered sweet nothings to each other.
On the other side of the party, Verlena sat at a small table under a parasol, slowly sipping her black tea, when her friend beside her couldn't help but look down and ask her a question.
"But if we go over and say a few words, that woman Ariel's scheme will succeed."
“What’s the point of going back? I don’t like Ariel, but I loathe guys like Wes even more. Do you expect me to lower myself to compete with her for someone like that?” Verlena shook her head.
"The Tumbleweed family is indeed impressive, but Mrs. Mosa's generation can no longer be considered the direct descendants of the family, and the next generation, Wes, is even less of a human being." She picked up her teacup, blew on it, and enjoyed the gentle afternoon breeze as her long, slender legs were crossed.
