Chapter 193: Magic Resistance
Chapter 193: Magic Resistance
The water in the copper kettle in the brazier was boiling, and as it bubbled and gurgled, the room fell into a brief silence.
Hagrid looked at himself from left to right, but seeing no change, he sniffed the remaining cookies in confusion.
A deep, thunderous bark sounded outside, and a black wild boar hound was trotting over from the edge of the pumpkin patch.
"Ya Ya!"
Hagrid exclaimed and ran out of the cabin.
"I think it's Yaya back. She's very gentle, you'll love her."
So only Sheen was left in the room.
He stared for a long time at the pumpkin patch outside, recalling the giant's immense ability to weaken magic.
The giants' thick hides act like a natural armor, deflecting or weakening the power of spells.
In the Order of the Phoenix arc, when Umbridge of the Ministry of Magic attempted to expel Hagrid from Hogwarts, she led the Aurors in a forceful arrest operation. Professor McGonagall, who protected Hagrid, was struck by multiple Aurors' spells, significantly reducing her fighting ability. Despite being hit by numerous spells, Hagrid remained unharmed and managed to fight his way out.
There are many other examples like this, such as Hagrid facing a group of Death Eaters during the Battle of the Astronomical Tower. The Death Eaters' spells were completely ineffective against him; they could only distract him by burning down the hut.
These examples are sufficient to demonstrate that spells or transformations of ordinary strength are ineffective against giants.
Therefore, the quantity needs to be increased.
Sheen took out all his previous stock from his bag, which included about five identical cat-shaped cookies.
Actually, these cookies were originally called Mrs. Lorris Cookies, but the name was changed later for easier sales.
The door creaked open. Behind the piles of feed sacks and pet supply crates on the floor, a large figure appeared, leading a black, fierce-looking wild boar hound.
"It seems like Ya Ya really likes you."
Hagrid said, releasing Tooth. Tooth immediately pounced on Sheen to lick his ear. Like Hagrid, Tooth was clearly not as fierce as it looked.
When Sheen used Transfiguration to create a bone and threw it, Hagrid stuffed a biscuit into his mouth, and unsurprisingly, nothing happened.
"I guess these cookies are probably not working for me. It's okay, kid, I'm used to it."
Although Hagrid said that, he showed a pitiful expression.
He held the remaining cookies, seemingly wondering what would happen if he ate the three different cookies together... a deer's head, cat's paws, and owl's wings?
"They cannot be eaten at the same time."
Sheen offered a silent reminder.
Each of the transforming cookies carries its own unique will; what will happen when they are eaten together is something even the creator himself could not have imagined.
However, there is a high probability that magic carrying different wills will clash, and the magic used for transformation will rampage through the user's body, which is not much different from a magic riot.
"Oh, of course, of course we can't eat together, ha, how could anyone even think of eating together... even an idiot wouldn't..."
Hagrid chuckled sheepishly, but ultimately succumbed to Sheehan's prolonged gaze.
"As long as nothing goes wrong, you're lucky—"
He grabbed the cookie box quickly; he didn't care about anything else at that moment.
"I still have some."
When Sheen spoke, Hagrid froze in mid-air, unsure whether to eat the biscuit or put it down.
Finally, her face turned red from holding it in. "I don't have much of an appetite right now."
He said.
The stone brazier in the center of the cabin was over a meter in diameter, and Hagrid had taken down the matching giant copper kettle. Although it wasn't the right time yet, he really wanted to keep himself busy.
Sheen took out five of the last remaining pieces from his bag and handed them to Hagrid, who, despite his eager expression, became somewhat reserved.
"This looks very valuable. It won't be easy for me to snatch so many from those wizards. If you give them all to me, what will you play with?"
He rubbed his hands together and looked at Sheen.
It's really not easy. If Manager Gert knew he had so much inventory, he would definitely come after him. The manager's collection owl hasn't come yet today... That owl's temper is almost as bad as Mr. Owl's.
Sheen shook his head:
"Give it a try, it's okay."
Hagrid felt today must be his lucky day. He quickly ate five cookies, then rubbed his belly and winked at Sheehan.
"Oh, I never imagined I could transform into an animal in my entire life, Merlin's beard—thank you so much, Sheen. And that alchemist who invented the Transformation Cookies. If I could meet him, I'd definitely give him some Rockbread Cookies..."
While Hagrid muttered to himself, Sheen, who had been thanked twice, remained silent, simply waiting with Hagrid for the change to happen.
Different wizards can manifest different transformations in the same animal. Some may become black cats, while others may become white cats.
So, can this kind of transformation be guided?
This question suddenly popped into Sheen's head.
There are many breeds of cats, including the Norwegian Forest Cat and Maine Coon, which can withstand the cold; and the Dune Cat, which lives in the desert...
Magic is something that becomes more powerful the more you understand and master it. So Sheen kept this conjecture in mind.
As Sheen pondered, Hagrid's excited face gradually cooled, cat fur sprouted from his face, and then... nothing more.
An eerie silence fell over the air. Hagrid touched the fur on his face.
"Look, at least some of them are right, aren't they?"
A cold wind swept through the treetops from the edge of the forbidden forest, rustling the pumpkin patch outside the hut.
Sheen was also somewhat helpless; having too much magic resistance didn't seem to be a good thing all the time.
Just when Hagrid had given up hope, a fierce-looking owl streaked across the grey-blue sky and crashed into the window of Hagrid's cabin, smashing it open.
He then dropped a package and a letter and flew away.
"What a brave owl!"
Hagrid exclaimed in admiration, then immediately recognized it as a roaring letter:
Its envelope was red, and when Sheen received it, smoke began to rise from the four corners of the envelope. If it wasn't opened in time, there would be serious consequences.
"My dear boss, if you want to see your magic shop not destroyed by angry wizards during your holiday, send me some Transformation Cookies—five whole days! I haven't received anything except the message that you're still busy!"
Hopefully, a renowned alchemist of your stature, comparable to Nicolas Flamel, will remember that you own a small property in Diagon Alley.
In this tiny business, there's also a poor witch who runs the shop...she's being driven crazy by her crazy customers!
The roaring letter was deafening, and after its contents were read, it automatically burned up.
