Chapter 290: The Pensieve
Chapter 290: The Pensieve
"...If they fire you for stealing the car, I wouldn't be surprised at all. Just wait and see how I deal with you then. You probably never even considered how your father and I felt when we found the car was gone..."
It was Mrs. Weasley's shout, a hundred times louder than usual, making the plates and spoons on the table rattle and the echoes deafeningly reverberate through the stone walls.
Everyone in the auditorium turned to see who had received the roar letter. Ron huddled in his chair, his bright red forehead the only visible feature.
Amidst the commotion, Sheen quietly took his glasses and left his seat. On the way, he bumped into Professor Flitwick, who was handing out course schedules.
Like Professor McGonagall, he distributed this important item along the desks in his own college.
On the timetable, the young wizards' study time was extended by one class period.
The latest class has been moved from 3:30 to nearly 5:00.
Ravenclaw has no classes this morning, but has Transfiguration, History of Magic, and Herbalism in the afternoon.
Herbology class is taken together with Slytherin's, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, they will be repotting the mandrake.
Last winter, Sheen and his friends came into contact with this magical plant; they were dressing up the mandrake with clothes and scarves.
Holding the timetable, Sheen arrived at Hope Hut, which was filled with lush plants and had a cultivation rack at the front.
The wooden cabinet was spread out the moment he arrived, forming a small workbench.
On the windowsill, fallen leaves carry a message: it's another cool and bountiful autumn.
As it crept into Hogwarts Castle, the fir leaves began to turn yellow. Sheen slowly raised his head; his magic refraction mirror was ready.
【Magic Refraction Mirror: Apprentice Level (20/90)】
Its function is simple: to refract light from the outside world multiple times and then receive it back into the user's pupils intact.
Logically, this effect could be achieved without using magic, but magic is so convenient that it saved Sheen a lot of time.
Next, all Sheen needs to do is verify whether his method is feasible.
To do this, he would have to recall every detail about the secret room, but time had erased those certain details, leaving only vague outlines of things.
Sheen had anticipated this and had prepared a solution.
The Pensieve.
Yes. The Pensieve is enchanted with the ability to recreate memories, so it can faithfully reproduce any detail stored in the subconscious, and anyone, whether the memory's owner or someone else, can enter those memories and walk around inside them.
The Pensieve is extremely rare because only the most powerful wizards use it, and most wizards dare not do so.
After all, memories are the most secret and precious thing a wizard possesses.
Traditionally, a witch's or wizard's Pensieve, like their wand, was buried with the person because it was considered a very personal item.
Fortunately, as a somewhat well-known alchemist, Sheen always managed to find a buyer.
A shallow stone basin was spilled out of the wooden cabinet, its rim carved with runes and symbols.
The basin was filled with a silvery substance, which, like clouds, resembled both liquid and gas.
Sheen raised his wand, and the silver threads of these memories returned to his mind. He could also clearly see Mrs. Lorris, who had been petrified in his memories.
It was a day in October, the anniversary of Nick's near-headless death. The basilisk was scheduled to launch its first attack on this day, and it was poor Mrs. Lorris who was petrified. In other words, in October, when the basilisk was at work, he could not only save Mrs. Lorris but also conveniently test the magic refraction mirror's effectiveness.
The wooden cabinet naturally surrounded Sheen, and when Sheen put the Pensieve back, the cabinet swallowed the Pensieve to its deepest part, where Sheen had also cast an emergency self-destruct spell.
Sheen stared silently at the cabinet in front of him.
Is it an illusion?
His wooden bookcase seems to be gaining more and more wisdom.
……
On the first day of school, the new students were still immersed in the wonder of the magic castle when something even more amazing happened: many clubs began recruiting new members.
Hogwarts was in a rather mediocre state, relying entirely on club members to occasionally recruit new members.
Things are different now. A "despicable" club has gone crazy recruiting everywhere, even poaching players from other clubs. They're using any means necessary.
This has prompted other clubs to start recruiting as well.
"The Castle Cat Club is the biggest club in all of Hogwarts!"
Hannah was a shy witch, but since becoming the head of the Castle Cat Club, she has forced herself to become much more outgoing.
At that moment, she had gathered around a few little witches and was talking to them.
Beside her stood the shy Neville, his head bowed, his face as red as an apple.
Hannah... is right, if you ignore their efforts to poach members from other clubs...
"I'm so glad I could say it again. You've all seen the lucky statue on the third floor of the castle, haven't you? That's one of the pieces of evidence for the existence of the castle's spirit cat... Mr. Grimm, who helped us avoid failing our courses; that genius alchemist at Hogwarts; and Professor Lockhart, who attended Defense Against the Dark Arts class..."
Can you believe it? These all happened after someone witnessed the lucky lynx.
She spoke a great deal in one breath, leaving the little witches confused.
This also made Sheen, who was passing by, quicken his pace. He looked around and saw that many clubs in the auditorium were already recruiting.
Some people unfurled banners, some talked at length, and others used a crackling wooden stick to attract the attention of the new students.
Here is the Gobstone Club: it's a niche sport, and Professor Snape's mother was once the club's president. Erin Prince's name is still on the trophy display board.
There is also a Quidditch club: of course, it's more like a Hogwarts Quidditch team support group than a Quidditch club;
There's also the Castle Explorers Club: that's the club where the Weasley twins are, and their main task is to explore the various secret passages in the castle;
Besides the more entertainment-oriented clubs, Hogwarts also has clubs focused on learning, such as the Magical Society and the Charms Club.
It's worth mentioning, however, that all of these clubs were founded by Ravenclaw.
As for the Hufflepuffs, they almost all joined a club that Sheen was interested in: the Never-Hunger Club.
"Sheen, I heard your next class is Herbalism,"
At that moment, Justin emerged from the crowd in the auditorium, holding a few mandrake leaves.
"Can I see your Animagus transformation? I've been quite interested in it lately."
