What should I do if the hero is resurrected in the Monster Girl Encyclopedia?
Chapter 84, "Milad"
Chapter 84, "Milad" (Part 2)
The opera is still being performed, telling part of Milad's story.
This is indeed a classic play.
It's so classic that its original version was being performed in theaters in the country even before Creteia was petrified.
Mirand had heard about it and had even been forced to sit down and watch by his old friend.
As soon as the actor on stage sang a line, the old friend, who was deliberately trying to play a prank, would repeat the line in a high-pitched voice, followed by a wild laugh that disregarded all decorum.
Mirad himself had no idea that his experience, when adapted into a play, would be so interesting... It made his old friend, who often showed signs of sorrow, forget his worries and laugh so hard he couldn't breathe, leaning on his shoulder.
No matter how moving or sincere the hymns and odes were, they all sounded like children's pranks when sung along by that person, and afterwards Mirad was inevitably given all sorts of nicknames related to them.
However, in Mirad's memory, this play only ended when he and his team defeated several demon princes, including Obora. This should be the original version that has been passed down.
……
"...He didn't stop, the blood still staining his sword, before he rushed to the next battlefield. Look, look...another demon army is gathering, stamping their feet and gazing south..."
The singer spun upwards, her beautiful voice carrying clearly and brightly throughout the theater thanks to its unique structure, drawing the audience back into that era forged in blood and fire.
As the blond boy grew up, his fame spread far and wide. He was blessed by the gods and officially became a hero, and was also entrusted by the king with the holy sword to protect the country.
He was given one mission after another to annihilate monsters. With his blessing, the Holy Sword and the skills he had honed in the past, he was invincible on the battlefield. Ordinary monsters could not even touch the hem of his clothes before being annihilated by the radiance of the Holy Sword, while ordinary high-level monsters only made him waste a little more time.
On the stage, the hero raised his holy sword and slashed at the monsters, who fell to the ground in pain.
In the audience, watching Crete repeatedly turn back with a hesitant expression on his face, Mirand smiled somewhat helplessly.
"...Is there anything you'd like to ask?"
"So...you really can achieve a complete resurrection? Without relying on the secret art of resurrection or Lord Hel, the blessing of the Supreme God can actually accomplish such a thing..."
Crete rubbed his hands together. He sat on Dana's lap, his round body appearing somewhat petite next to the massive Minotaur. "If you have some free time, would you do me the honor of visiting the Magic Research Institute?"
Is this person treating themselves as a research subject?
He didn't feel offended at all. The Blessing of Resurrection on his body was indeed a singularity... Mirad knew a little about necromancy, so he was aware of this fact.
In the past, the secret art of resurrection was a completely forbidden art. It could not achieve a complete resurrection at all; it was merely a desecration of life and a filthy trick of simply manipulating corpses.
Rather, it's more accurate to say that the current Resurrection Technique's ability to achieve a resurrection effect is something that Mirad never expected.
Mirad couldn't help but chuckle. "I'll go when I have time."
"Oh, there's one more thing... I wonder if I can ask you a question?" Crete wiped his sweat.
“Please ask,” Mirad said.
"Please forgive my intrusion... When do you plan to set foot on the White Wasteland, lift the curse, and bring us back home?"
Crete hesitated for a moment. "I'm not exactly a native of Miradria. Rather... the husbands of the monsters in this city are all outsiders. But, after living here for a while, I can't help but think about what that country would be like when it returns to the human world."
At present, monsters are indeed unable to reproduce males. I can still vividly recall the confident and patty-hearted way Siolita patted her chest when she said that the day when monsters would truly give birth to human males would come sooner or later.
It is truly astonishing that Miradria has managed to maintain some of Cretia's customs despite such a large influx of outsiders.
“Everyone wants to go up to the cliff. Every night before we go to sleep, the thing we hear most is about Cretia. My mother, my mother’s mother, and going back several generations, dozens of generations…” Dana counted on her fingers, as if she were counting how many ancestors she had. “They all came from hearing the story of the Resurrected Saint, and they all believe that you can take us home… even though I’ve never been to Cretia.”
Lord Milad, when will we be able to return to our homeland?
Even this problem has persisted to this day.
In the past, Mirad would have still delivered that disappointing, negative answer... He couldn't even make a promise, because an unfulfilled guarantee would only bring greater despair.
But now… the Demon King's resurrection is imminent. He can lift the curse, and those trapped in time can be returned.
He didn't want to disappoint them any longer.
Just giving a sliver of hope... it should be alright, right?
Perhaps... he can give a less traditional, somewhat bold answer.
So he nodded, giving his first affirmative answer in a thousand years, "Soon, within this month. Speaking of which... aren't you, as demons, and humans who collude with demons, afraid of me?"
Crete and Dana clapped their hands excitedly, then looked puzzled by Mirad's words.
Crete struggled to find the words, “Fear…? You are the hero of Creteia, the glory of Miradria, the hero acknowledged by the supreme god, and the princess’s fiancé… What frightening things would you do to us?”
Milad looked toward the stage.
The opera was just reaching the climax of the second act, with the Phantom Singer's song being passionate and stirring, praising the hero's great feat of using the holy sword to slay all demons and evil.
On stage, "Milad" shone brightly, but below the stage, Mirand fell silent.
Once again, he clearly perceived the changes of the times.
The monsters sing praises to their former mortal enemies, and humans and monsters become husband and wife, falling in love and understanding each other.
He sat in a city created by humans, expanded by monsters, where humans and monsters coexisted, listening to an opera with himself as the protagonist, being asked by both humans and monsters about when he would return home, and being trusted without reservation.
"...Do you like your life now? Are there any troubles or difficulties?" Mirad murmured, his voice filled with lingering weariness.
After a brief moment of thought, Crete said, "I like it... I really like it. I can see my lover as soon as I open my eyes, and the research I'm doing is something I'm willing to dedicate my life to... Even when I encounter difficulties in my research, Dana will cook delicious food for me. In my free time, I can even go out to watch a show. It's much more comfortable than my life back home."
Dana didn't hesitate at all, "I love it! I get to eat meat, have a husband, and even act. It would be even more perfect if I could have a banquet with the ancestors of Creteia."
"Really? That's good."
Mirad stood up; the play on stage still had one last scene to perform.
But he lost interest in watching any further and didn't want to know how Hyolitta would change the predetermined ending.
Should we add a perfect ending? Or copy it exactly as it is? Or perhaps make some Hyolita-esque adaptations?
He doesn't really want to know anymore; he's even lost the strength to throw broken stones.
"Excuse me, as for the research institute... I will visit it when I have the chance."
